Create more dynamic visualizations by using the value of parameters in the workbook to set axis ranges. This feature allows you to select different parameters to use as each axis range. You can have a single dynamic axis extent (just start or end) or can set both extents using compatible fields.

Tim, wondering if this could be used with calculated fields which would set the default value for a parameter then use the parameter to set the axis range. This would solve the problem of controlling a date axis so that it always starts and ends on certain values based on the calculated field. Can’t wait to try it. Thanks for the post!

Tim, would love to see one on how to use Tableau Prep builder to skip N amount of rows, a new feature for 2023.3 I have read about. After upgrading to the newest patch and software, I do not see this feature at all, and am confused on how to access this.

Ah, just read a bit closer. This feature only works on .CSV/text files, NOT Excel files...so now I am stuck between deciding just to manually remove those leading rows in each Excel file, or opening them up, and still converting them over to .CSV before ingestion. Either option hinders automation, woof. -__-

I don’t understand the request. The feature only works with parameters so you need to apply parameter actions not filter actions.

@@VishalPawar-gc8gj Same reply still applies. You cant change the values when you change the filter. This is only possible with a parameter action. When we sleect data points were sending those selections to a paramter action which is changing the parameter. It sounds like you just want a filter action which is a sepearte feature. To do that you would setup a sheet with your selections and a another sheet with your chart and instead of a filter you'd use a set action to change the selection but again this wont change the filter dropdown for you. If you google set actions filter tableau you'll find some good guides.

I am just not seeing where this would be useful yet, but I am certain someone will come up with cool use cases - the cutting off of the bars is frustrating; I'll look at Marc's blog to see how he seemed to avoid that.

Ahh, I see he sets the axis value to be a bit larger than the maximum value in the chart when clearing the selection. Still, I don't necessarily see the benefit over just using a filter/highlight action combo.

Yeah its just fidlly isn't it... and i don't like to go into hacks, i just show the features as they are. I'll die on that hill.
