On this episode of #DynamoShorts we will export the parameter data of a category of elements to Excel! In the example I show #roomData exported from the #AutodeskRevit sample file to #MicrosoftExcel through #DynamoForRevit! The rooms are sorted by Level and Room Number then the Element ID, Level, Name and Number data of the sorted list is exported.

Love Excel exports! I tend to throw them into most of the scripts I make 1) because they're useful but also 2) because setting the file path as an input will force Edit Inputs to open in Dynamo Player every time (aka idiot-proofing). I like your method too, but I've always found it easier to just create a separate list of the column headers off to the side and to use AddItemToFront once I have my final, transposed list of spreadsheet data. I find this helps keep the actual row data cleaner and more organized throughout the graph. Cool stuff though, as always. :)

You used two parameters to sort them by. What if I wanted to add another parameter to sort them by. Therefore, a total of 3 parameters instead of 2. How can I continue to add more essentially?

Can you share all the packages you're using? I'm new to Dynamo and don't see many of the functions you're using. Thanks!

I do not use any nodes that do not come with Dynamo. No custom packages in use :)

I had my list set up, exact same as yours with Transpose at the end, but I'm getting a "Warning: Data.ExportToExcel operation failed" message. The Data.ExportExcel Node in my version of Dynamo is called Data.ExportToExcel and has an extra input called "writeAsString", It's default set to false but I tried both true / false and had same outcome. Any ideas? Thanks

I got the same error, not sure what I missed! @DanamoBIM

@@melanielavoie7787 Hey, I got the same issue. I already replied to your comment with a solution but it got deleted for some reason, maybe because I posted a link a dynamo forum. Use the Data.OpenXMLExportExcel node instead of the Data.ExportToExcel Node and change the file path to a string. I made a forum post about it on forum dynamo bim titled, Dynamo Data.ExportToExcel Problems.
