This is a look at my unit at my property. Maybe your setup looks like mine? Maybe you have some reservations about buying the trap... Take a look and see if this may be for you.
I have a dynatrap that I use at the cabin we rent. It works great. One tip I discovered is to NOT put it near the area like a deck but further from the house as it attracts the mosquitoes. Also you run it 24/7 as it works by interrupting the breeding of the mosquitoes so it may take a bit to see a zone where they aren’t. We love ours.
Thanks! I’ve had my new one running for about two weeks and it’s about 1/4 full (one acre machine & I live on a lake). I tried to empty it today and couldn’t. I’m a widow and not terribly strong. I will need to get someone to hold one section while I turn the basket counter clockwise...Just an FYI! It truly does work, though...
Just got mine from QVC,ordered e tra bulbs with it, I got the half acre size for 78.00 bucks, small yard in town . Look for it on a today's special value on QVC!!! I just opened it, sand color. Thanks for review!!!
I love your yard, but I love having a very small front yard, in the city, and a larger back yard. I don't miss all the yard upkeep. I am in deep South. Bug city!!!! I have bloodbath and wall fountain in back yard, and a small in ground pond out front, so, my two birdbaths are stagnant water. My house is 128 years old,in a historic area . I bought this trap, like mine, for my mom and brothers. It keeps our animals safe, too from nasty bug bites!!
Thanks for the review. I’m in the market for a mosquito trap and i will add this one to my list to traps to review further. That was a large amount of skeeters in the bin, thats about how many are on my back porch right now.
Any amount in the bin helps disrupt the reproduction cycle. You catch them now, they don’t reproduce, the next couple weeks are better, couple weeks after that even better.
@BuffaloBeerReviews how did you have it powered up that far out on your property ? We have a little over a acre and we have quite a bit of woods around us . I've already got the dyna trap 1 acre in my Amazon cart along with extra bulbs and a mosquitoe attractant.
Your dog took a wizz in the background haha. Glad I saw this video. Was thinking about buying the mosquito magnet ( live in Georgia tons of skeetrs). This product seems to work. Good video. Thanks
Im debating ordering one on amazon, also in NC and theyre the worst this year than i can ever remember. Just worried about spending the money with winter coming up.
I got the DynaTrap DT1260 and I catch about 10-20 mosquitoes each night and a bunch of other random bugs too. It's whisper quiet, can barely hear it even sitting nearby.
@@BuffaloBeerReviews yea we do. Winters are usually 25-30 up to mid 40's for most of the winter, lows gets down in the teens at times. No skeeters during cold months. But they're bad the rest or the year. No water near me that I know of and will have 5-8 bites within 5 minutes of being outside.
leaves the bodies, in a point where lizards often come, near walls or rocks that stay sunny. Doing so i have made many cute and useful friends, slowly they let themselves approach, and become domestic. Or put the bodies in a deep dish, hanging from a tree to feed the birds.
.... If I run for President and win, when I’m put on the news, I’m going to praise and recommend this American company that made that trap. I’m gonna day on TV people should get these and even show them how it works. Seriously. Mosquitos love my blood as much as a Gold digger loves money.
Buffalo Beer Reviews Thank you. Thank you very much. ☺️ Hey, you like beer Buffalo Beer? You should do Beer reviews where you review different beer in buffalo and review the companies that made them or something lol. I love beer 😂
That is way more than a few moths. It's the reason I haven't bought one of these sorts of traps. Moths are needed as food for many different species of birds, especially when they have chicks. They provide much-needed protein. Beetles are a food source for toads and frogs, too. It's discouraging to me that nobody has come up with a solution that doesn't entail killing off every other flying creature unless it costs more than $500. I guess it's a testament to the power of the tiny mosquito to wreak havoc on the planet. I've tried the fans but I've never been successful, as they need to be so powerful. But I guess I'll try one more time, if it ever stops raining, as I don't want to get electrocuted using the extension cord! I live not too far from your area, by the way.
Hi. We have a unit just like yours. We have it next to our patio so hoping it would take care of the mosquito bites. I haven't run mine 24 hours and maybe that's the problem. I really can't see a big difference in it taking care of our problem. In the evening and when it gets dark, we are still getting bitten by those little varmints. Do you have any suggestions? Do I need to move it further away from my patio or maybe something else would work. Not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Does the house create a barrier to stop it from working in the front yard? We are on acreage also, so I was wondering if it would be possible to put it at the side of the house and it would pull from the front and back yard. Or should I just get 2 separate units?
I would think that the house would lessen the effective reach into the front yard. I had held off buying a second one for the front for some reason, thanks for reminding me.
I did just this year. Posted a video on how easy that was too. I figured $14 to make sure the trap is working as well as possible wasn’t too bad of an investment.
In my location in Nova Scotia these units trap mostly moths and very few mosquitos. They do nothing to control or lower the mosquito population. I have a 1 acre property and purchased two 1 acre units, very disappointed.
----Thanks for the video; I was having an issue with the light not working but your advice to re-seat the lamp worked great, thanks. - --Side Note Question: The video quality is very clear, what camera are you using?
Malathian concentrate-- 1 oz per qt. sprayer- 4 oz. per 1 gal sprayer -been using this for past 15 yrs since I retired up in Wi... Most of us neighbors use this-- and we also Spray our neighbors yrds. with the extra we have.. nICE TO LIVE IN A AREA WHERE NEIGHBORS HELP NEIGHBORS..
I'm wondering if you still get bit by mosquitos in your yard or on your deck? I can see the dynatrap catches lots of insects, but does it actually create a completely mosquito-free environment for you to relax in?
What's the "attracting packs" ? I live on a lake her in the midwest, now with all this rain I can see my summer being miserable with mosquitoes, I'm wanting to prepare before 7/4/19 festivaties.
I would like that unscrewing the lights would limit its range and capabilities. I also think that mosquito bait would help but I’ve never needed to pursue that option, it works fine without it.
Nice informative review. I am at a place with the mosquitoes biting the soul out at night...So makes it hard to be out in the evening..Seems Dynatrap will be my go to ...Is it effective say i put 2 of these around and we are at Zero mosquitos?
I'd say no to zero mosquitoes. But I'd say you'll see a dramatic effect from the dynatraps. It's the first thing I unpack from the shed each spring. Place them a little bit away from where you sit, it will lure the mosquitoes away from you a little ways.
I don’t know about every four months. I think I hit the hours in about 5 to 6 months, which is about a typical season of use in Buffalo. Also, the price of the bulbs is pretty low so it doesn’t make sense to skimp on changing them.
I’m not quite sure I’ve ever heard that. None the less, but I’ve run mine pretty consistently since I’ve had it without any problems to the unit/cord/outlet. I did buy the extension cord that was more outdoor proof. In case that matters.
I just bought one - so excited to see if we can enjoy out outdoors this year - would be the first time in8 years if so! Do you find it’s good quality and will last for a few years ?
Sometimes I think that the build quality is a bit low. It’s all plastic. But it really doesn’t do anything except hang from a hook. It’s held up outside for about a year now, no problems. And it works well, so idk if I really care anymore. Hahaha.
Buffalo Beer Reviews Thank you for the quick reply! After I posted my question, I researched the 1 acre size and the specs do say “all weather”. The smaller units say “indoor” which I would assume are ok in covered areas. Thanks for taking the time for a review.
I don’t use anything to lure them in. I only used sensible placement of the trap and left it running all the time. Even the beginning of this season has started off great simply by turning it on and letting it run.
How often have you replaced the bulb, that would be one maintenance expense? My small one non-replaceable bulb, bulb went out within couple weeks, will be talking to them see how they handle it.
How noisy is it if you were to have it relatively close to a gazebo room. Also, are there any consumables? Lastly, does it get the super annoying mini-mosquitoes that seem to have the worst bites.
It’s really not that loud at all. It’s like a hollow hum to it. Like a mini fan. I’m not sure about the smaller mosquitoes though, the wire mesh basket is totally fine enough to keep those inside though.
@@BuffaloBeerReviews I see that you liked it, but could you hang out outside with a noticeably less bites? Or do you think seeing the drawer full of them made you believe it was less of them? Thanks bud. Oh one more thing, what month do you plan on putting it out?
@@bgymr9722 I couldn't sit outside before I bought this. Mosquitos were swarming. I used to see groups of them. I was constantly swinging at them. I hated leaving my dogs outside to fend for themselves. I've had my Dynatrap plugged in for 2 months. I haven't seen any mosquitos. None.
How does this hold up in rain? We've bought 2 bug zappers sofar hung them under a tree ran them 24/7 and the rain killed both of them, one within 3 weeks the new one broke 2 days later, had to return, thinking if getting the dynatrap.
This is my third summer with it. It gets plugged in and working in April and goes til October. Plenty of rain through those years, no worries from me though.
Thanks, when we get this thinking of putting it on a hanger in the corner of the house almost exactly were the old bug zappers were hanging under a tree, under the eve of the house just as a precaution for the heavy rain days.
Did ypu run a extension cord all the way back there to power it up we have a acre and about to purchase the dyna trap xl 1 acre and im gonna place it by our woods line and use the attractant satchet as well figure we will smoke these bugs around here weve gots tons of mosquitoes moths beetles wasp carpenter bees and etc and yellow jackets they suck.
The problem with that is the bugs don’t die immediately. They have to sit in there for about 24 hours and dehydrate to die. So if you turn it off in the day time they will just fly out the top. The fan keeps them from flying out when it’s turned on.
This 1 acre version of the Dyna trap is designed to be water proof/weatherproof. I literally just plug it in in the beginning of the season and let it run no matter what.
I really don’t see why not. The trap runs on reg 120V, so whatever the solar run should be fine. It may deplete the battery faster though if it runs 24/7.
Hi, great 'review' of the dynatrap :) I was wondering; do you think the dynatrap would work to catch fruit flies (indoors)? I'm looking at the dynatrap ultralight model (300 sq. ft.) in particular for us. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
BBR, Hey, I found a info. video dynatrap did with someone and they did list fruit flies in their short list of insects. And the smaller (300 sq. ft.) model(s) are actually listed as indoor models and it says that outdoor models can be used inside with no issues, but that the other way around isn't advised - I guess more to due with the finish or materials maybe. Thanks.
It cuts the the reproductive cycle this works, that’s the point, the result no mosquitoes around the area I’m sure the neighbors are happy free service
Because you don't want the mosquitos biting you on the way to the trap! You will be luring them in and you will be a sitting duck if you are too close.
The mosquitoes were all dead, minus a couple. The fleas were mostly dead too, but here were a few that jumped out. End result still heavily outweighs anything that escaped.
It’s a pretty fair price, I’m buying two of them, I went back home to visit my parents in Central America they have this season of this desease is call DENGUE the mosquito transmits it, hundreds of people die, my two daughters got bite bad, this girls are light skin those bites look horrible and I was afraid they were gonna go sick, fortunately they did not, so I really need this traps, thanks for the review
sure there is a continual cost of electric its just not in your face having to deal with propane but you pay your electric bill 12 times a year the only complaint i would have is having a big frumpy extinction cord screeched across your acre maybe check into a solar power hub you can turn into a bird hut or something clever
So, I noticed you started out saying "mosquitoes" and changed to "bugs" once at the trap. On the clip, hard to tell.. but did not see many mosquitoes. Where are the mosquitoes?
I mean the mosquitoes are there. It’s just difficult to see an individual mosquito on film. You can see the mass of mosquito carcasses though. But you will notice that I that it doesn’t discriminate against what it causes he’s. There are lots of bugs in total, also a lot of mosquitoes.
I read that the bulbs are UV, but also a plate inside is coated in titanium oxide which emits carbon dioxide under the light, attracting the mosquitoes. So it's actually supposed to work day and night, and it's recommended to keep it on at all hours.
I’m not official on the companies opinion, but mines been on one since day one. I’m not sure how else you’re supposed to do it when the cord is 4’ long.
Pretty sure it doesn’t work very well for flies. I’ve seen other types of traps for flies that work well and are affordable. There’s one that almost smells like something is rotten, those work very well.
It must be, even though I don’t think it’s stated outright. I’ve left it outside 24/7 since I’ve bought it through all the weather (except winter) and it runs like a champ.
I honestly haven’t seen any considerable jump in electric bills, I don’t have exact usage numbers though. I leave it up and going 24/7 no matter the weather. It’s the first thing I unpack from the shed each spring!
Honestly, I’ve never had a problem with them. I did look for an “outdoor cord” when I was looking. Idk really what that means, but it’s lasted a while.
Go to dynatrap.com and it lists (most of) the bugs it traps. Then there's a link to contact them for the "many other" insects it supposedly traps. I don't know whey they don't just list them all, but hey, it's there. Peace.
We returned the 300 sq. ft. model. Didn't work at all for fruit flies. I just left out a piece of fruit and let them gather on it, then I grabbed my shop vac and got them all. Lol. Did that a couple times and there's only a few left around.
Yeah. I’m sure the prices would be falling. The video is almost 2-2.5 years old. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll get one for the front yard. I never did, other things came up.
@@BuffaloBeerReviews An Amazon review from a beekeer puts 1/8" hardware cloth over it to keep her bees out. She said the light attracts them. I'm just getting into beekeeping myself so I ordered one and I'll just put the hardware cloth over it.
I'd wave my 1200 degree heat gun back and forth a few times to make sure nothing in that basket is living. Just long enough to fry the insects, but not burn the unit.
Ive watched several other reviews o the Dyna Trap, it seems to catch/kill a lot more than Mosquito's... moths and beetles dont bother most people. Seems to be an ALL or NOTHING device.
That is my big question. I don't want it catching the bees. I need the bees for my citrus and fruit trees. I suppose I could turn it off with a timer so it will not be running when bees are out.
I’ve never seen a bee inside the basket over the two + years I’ve used it. Other insects yes. But really mostly mosquitoes. The numbers look screwed, but I think it’s because the other bugs are so much bigger than the mosquitoes.
