So, there has been a lot of speculation as to whether the new BRZ makes as much horsepower as they advertise... or whether it makes MORE! Well, here is the video of us dyno testing my 2022 Subaru BRZ, and how much horsepower my car actually makes! :) Hope you enjoy!

I own the '22 BRZ 6 speed manual. And have a '13 FRS. If you told me the new car makes 250 hp and 200 torque? I'd believe you. If you told me the old car made 150 hp and 120 torque? I'd believe you. The difference in feel is huge.

The owner of Open Flash Performance just put his personal 2022 BRZ on a dynojet that regularly reads 170-180 for 1st Gen twins, and he got 221whp on his 2nd Gen. That roughly equates to 250hp crank!

@@moldyrefrigerator that's good news...although that means there is probably less available power to gain from tuning.

Those power numbers are very impressive nonetheless. What I find super cool is that this car has almost the exact same power to weight ratio of the Honda S2000. That car I’m pretty sure has the record for the most powerful NA 4 cylinder

I work for a Subaru dealership and part of the reason the new Brz feels more “powerful” than it is, Subaru took a lot of time in not only beefing up the engine but also how your body feels that power while you are driving. The little things like how your body feels the g force and inertia as you sit behind the wheel and come around corners and as you are gassing it in the straights. It kinda plays a trick on your mind because your body feels a lot more of the power. They redesigned a few things to give the driver a better experience with the power available.

That graph at 9:00 is wild. Like yeah, the green numbers go higher, but the peak torque comes way later probably due to turbo lag, and then it starts to fall off almost immediately. It looks like the powerband is hella narrow, from 3500 RPM to 5500 RPM? But if you look at the BRZ, at 4500 RPM after the dip, it pulls steady torque all the way to redline. I've also seen that UEL headers can sometimes fix the torque dip, but they tend to make less peak horsepower at redline, so whatevs. Cool shit though lol

@BenLovrien

A tune is just software, it’s not physical so it doesn’t add weight, e85 is just a different fuel, so it won’t add weight, and adding a titanium exhaust will reduce the weight of the heavy stock exhaust so I think it might actually end up being lighter in the end😁👍🏻

165ftlb of torque is pretty bad. I hate sait on 3rd gear and just wait for speed at the track. 1st and 2nd gear is OK from low weight and gearing. 270ftlbs from gti don't even feel like a lot

You know what's sad about all these BRZ/86 enthusiasts who think Toyota has knocked it out of the park with this new 2.4L engine, is that the 2.0L engine in the new RZR Pro R pushes just as much crank hp as this engine in its N/A configuration, and is .4 liters less LOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL
@PBR79
@PBR79 2 года назад
It needed that extra 30 ft/lbs of torque. Not the same hp, 30 less ft/lbs of torque and an 8500 Rev limit. Awesome but it's now much more tractable with that torque. That engine would be amazing in an ND MX5 or an Elise.

@JacesOwnWorld
@JacesOwnWorld 2 года назад
@@BenLovrien missing what point? There are numerous amounts of you BRZ/86 fanboys across the internet raving about this new engine like it’s some kind of godly engine that Toyota has made. My point is that it’s just another engine, and that there are smaller N/A motors that are better, so there’s no need to get all “giggidy” about it. Toyota didn’t do anything special here. It’s still slow bud…
@BenLovrien
@BenLovrien 2 года назад
Well, I mean I think people are excited about it because it’s just better than the old one. Of course the car is slow😂 I didn’t buy it to go fast, it’s just a ton of fun to drive! But, it’s definitely not too slow with the 0-60 being .2 seconds off a 90’s NSX. But relative to a lot of cars yeah it’s pretty slow😂 I think the point of owning this car is just that they’re fun, and look cool. But the extra power over the old one is a nice bonus.

231 is to the crank. So 160 or less to the wheels. I used a jet dyno and it’s more accurate. I got my brz up to 267 to the wheels
