It's an absolute powerhouse that was built specifically for us Americans, because our carpets tend to be deeper and thicker pile wise, so they built the DC17 to be more than powerful enough to handle the carpets in our homes. I would love to own one.
Thanks! The DC21 has a Johnson motor that looks like it would work with the DC17, but the cog that drives the gears is a different design, if I remember correctly it doesn’t use a belt like the DC17
This is also the first Dyson upright with the improved plastic composition, making it more durable compared to their earlier models that used the cheaper plastic composition
When I had mine for a short while I definitely was very impressed and thought it cleans better than any Dyson I had. It's definitely a solid machine and a classic. Although I would have to think that if you would go over the area again with the An2 you would still get a lot of dirt. An3 probably won't be as good but you will still like it. I just don't like how loud the brush bar motor is. It's kind of scary especially if something breaks.
Definitely, the vacuum that goes last wins but I was shocked at how it picked up all that fine dust and grit despite vacuuming throughly and slowly with the UP20 The UP20 Animal 2 is very close, I feel like the DC17 separates the pile a bit better with its more powerful brushbar but I still love the UP20 dearly 😁
I have a DC17 Animal myself; I bought it off eBay 2.5 years ago to replace our DC07 Animal that my dad had sold a month prior. The DC17 cleans like nobody’s business! And I completely agree with you on the wand design; it’s so much more usable than prior Dyson models. There is a major flaw, though: the shroud clogs very quickly, and it separates from the main cyclone assembly every time I go to clean it. Mine has a single Core Separator, making it one of the redesigned cyclone assemblies.
