I hate doing appliance repairs. Even worse, is paying for repairs or buying a new unit. You gave me the peace of mind that I can DIY and you saved me money! Thanks so much.

Thank you so much for this, and a lesson learned not to vacuum pine leaves from Christmas tree! I was expecting to have to buy a new Dyson.

You’ve done a great job on fixing a stuck bearing but there is another problem that often happens and is probably the reason why they withdrew the model … you forgot to mention the electric connector coming from inside the ball. There are two mains wires inside the ball that have to stretch when you lower the machine … very often one of the mains wires breaks and needs re soldering together (another video exists showing this) … so if your brush-head feels loose and it still doesn’t turn then you’ve got to trace the mains wires back inside the ball.

This video was specific to the most common issue which is in fact the stuck roller due to bearings seizing, but thanks for mentioning this as people can look that up as well if this doesn't fix the issue. Appreciate the input!

I don’t suppose you have a link to the video needed for that fix do you Tony? I’m obviously using the wrong search term! 👌🏻

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I have watched numerous RU-vid videos on how to fix this problem on my Dyson DC40. None of them helped fix my problem until now! I was ready to throw this thing away. Thank you again!

@@gr2262 jaja I don't remember but I did a deep dive on those bearings, they are deep groove, caged, double sealed(shielded on the other hand are fully enlclosed) bearings.

One small correction: the "washer" you found is not really a washer. It's one of the seals of the roller bearing, that came out - allowing liquids to get into the bearing innards. On my Dyson's rollers, those bearings are 17mm OD, 7mm ID, and 5mm thick. Those measurements correspond to a 697 2RS metric bearing (2RS: two seals).

I see that the black pieces that the roller heads stick onto spins. Mine isn't moving at all so that appears to be my problem.
@justdiyit9683
@justdiyit9683 17 дней назад
@t4tulip yes, it's probably seized. Try to use the wd40 and flathead screwdrivers method on my video to see if it loosens

Hi.. my DC40 is different .. there is NO metal cogs inside the black end caps removed from the ends of the rotating brush!
@gr2262
@gr2262 Год назад
Try using a wire brush to remove the caked on dirt, it may very well be under that as i don't think dyson would make a different dc40, unless someone already messed with it prior. Good luck
@amberlierosesquirrel
@amberlierosesquirrel Год назад
@@gr2262 I triple checked everything because it didn't make any sense. Unless it depends on country for model!? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I Defo removed the dirt before sending this!! 😅 It very clearly looks nothing like in this video, wish you could share photos on here. Just black plastic ends, with a smooth sliver metal ring- tunnel going through it that the purple spinning head slots in to and barely moves!! No spinning cogs or mechanisms of any kind. The purple ends slot into that and move around with difficulty. And the screws on the outside plastic go straight into the spinning people part. No cogs, dirt, rust or hair of any kind there, and still barely moves even without being screwed in. It says DC40 on the machine. Although the top cylinders on mine are purple 💜 NOT orange 🧡 which usually means different models of the same range with Dyson. Don't get why this part would be So uselessly different though

I came here to comment the same thing that you did. I took mine all apart and there are no ball bearings. I'm wondering if the black Stubbs that the rollers go on to are supposed to move? Mine doesn't move at all. After cleaning the inside of both ends and putting it back together the rollers still won't budge I'm so frustrated ! @@amberlierosesquirrel

I've cleaned the brush roller out and all is clear but it still won't turn. If the motor end won't turn is that a sign that motor is broken and needs to be replaced?
@justdiyit9683
@justdiyit9683 2 года назад
1. There is a screw on the roller motor as you can bearly see it at 4:47 (hole in middle of roller). Remove it and inspect underneath as any slight hair/strings caught there (which can be unseen) can cause them not to turn 2. If you have inspected and rollers are clear, check now if they spin with the roller tubes out. If all of the above has been inspected and rollers still don't turn, I'd go with your suggestion of perhaps a bad motor.

On the spinning black roller thing where it needs the star head can you unscrew so you can take the hair from inside? Mine is stiff I think that’s the problem but I need to buy a star head thanks
@gr2262
@gr2262 2 года назад
@@MsMuymona Yes, correct. That can be removed. You can go to your local 99c store and usually find a screwdriver set that has the included "torx" screw (correct term for the star screw i mention lol). Or harbor freight. Shouldnt be more than $5. Please keep me posted and if you buy a set, please post the torx screw size if possible.. as i def don't recall but could help others.

Подскажите как снять стопорное кольцо, что бы вынуть подшипник, его заклинило.
@justdiyit9683
@justdiyit9683 2 года назад
The ring can be left in place, and all you have to do is clean with a wire brush thru the top- however, if you must remove it, use a retainer clip removal plier or simply use something with a pointy end and pry out carefully.

How do you get to check the Dyson 40 belt
@justdiyit9683
@justdiyit9683 2 года назад
I have read that it requires removing and pulling apart the engine which this tutorial does not cover. Just be advised, this is a difficult task and should only be tackled if you are up for a challenge.
