Dyson DC41 Animal BRUSH WON'T MOVE - FIXED! Switch Replacement 4K

A thousands times thank you!!! I could not find a video about this anywhere else for my particular vacuum and finding this video saved my vacuum. So thank you again so very much!!!

Just a note to those that think the beater switch is defective and causing the beater motor not to run, it may not be the switch, it is likely it isn't. After checking the beater bar motor and the wiring up to the switch I decided to isolate the switch as being the culprit before purchasing a new one. Simple to do this, just disconnect the switch and short the wires together ( make sure the power is diconnected 1st! ). I did this and the motor would still not run. The next component in the circuit is that little switch-like device in between the 2 switches that has a mushroom cap on it. That's actually a 2.5amp circuit breaker. Do the same procedure to see if that's the culprit. Hook up the switch you just disconnected and disconnect the 2 wires to the circuit breaker and short those together ( AGAIN with the power off, or the unit not plugged in). If the motor now runs when you hit the switch, you've found your problem! This was my situation and I ordered a replacement breaker and voila, beater motor now works like a charm. Oh, and be sure and save that mushroom cap on the existing breaker and transfer it to the new one, You need that!

Good Video, you had the wire backwards so it doesn’t matter if there on the wrong terminal.

Where did you but the new button? I looked on the Dyson webpage but it’s not there :( Do you have a link to the replacement button?

My brush moves for a few seconds then stops. Do you think it could be the switch? Or something else?

I got lucky. I cleaned the bar said a little prayer and now it works.

Any advice appreciated.... brush bar stopped working...replace full brush bar head, no luck. Replaced reset switch as described in this video... no luck... what else could it be??

I replaced both switches and ended up having to replace the brushbar motor. It’s now working but the power doesn’t stay on when I hit the power button. It powers on then when I let go of the power button, it goes off.

Damn...I thought this was my problem but I decided to swap the power and brush switches just to see if the brush switch would turn the vacuum on and it does hence the switches are OK. I must have another issue, perhaps my brush motor is shot. =(

Probably would have been goo6 to show people how to test the switch before disassembly. A person who cant figure out what you have demonstrated themselves sure as hell wint be able to test it themselves

it actually doesnt matter how 2 wires complete a curcuit but U DID GET IT WRONG LOL and if the switch is actually at fault and your like me (NO TIME TO ORDER PARTS JUST WANT THE DAM THING TO SPIN) wich most hoovers have been doing for decades then simply use a thin piece of wire in a figure of 8 config around both switch connections this will complete the curcuit but u wont be able to turn the brush head off wich isnt a problem for me because i like a swift amount of rpm on the beater bar along with suction (SO I CAN CLEAN MY CARPET THE WAY THE FU*KING THING IS SUPPOSED 2 WORK) WHO IN THE RIGHT MIND WOULD USE THAT BUTTON? EVEN IF U WENT OVER VINYL IT WILL HELP FLICK SH*T UP INTO THE SUCTION STAGE AND THE WHOLE REASON IT HAS A SEPERATE MOTORISED ROLLER IS BECAUSE OLD HOOVERS RAN THE BELT OFF THE SAME MOTOR so if the carpet is thick THE BEATER BAR WOULD SLOW DOWN CAUSING LESS SUCTION SO WTF!! THIS BUTTON EXISTS I HAVE NO CLUE

You plugged rednblack into left terminal...not right....nothing wrong with switch....so where or what controls power to head when in upright position....must be another switch your not showing that can be bad....where is it aint?? Why doesn't anyone make a video on that switch????

Thank you for the video showing the spring on the brush bar switch assembly and the tip on holding the grey switch up during reassembly. The spring disappeared upon disassembly. No idea where it went. I ordered two springs listed in a parts breakdown and when I receive them I will put the shorter one in. My initial task was to replace the power cord strain relief. The errant spring turned this into a project.

My Dyson 41 was acting up, so I’m one of those older guys (83) that will try to fix anything, but I also check u-tube, found you and was ready to tear my vacuum apart. You suggested pressing the bottom 5 times and holy cow,,, it works again I can’t thank you enough. Gary

Thanks for the video. My switch was good when I took it to bits and measured it. For some reason, the act of taking it to bits and reassembling it caused it to function correctly! Perhaps the mechanism had shifted somehow - but hey ho, now itworks fine. I must say that the cleaner is very hard to move on long or new carpets. Thanks again. Vince

Quick question have you tried a multimeter to test the brush bar switch for continuity? When I tested mine, when switch is depressed down position, I get a closed circuit. Is that what you get on yours?

So...I did everything exactly right. But now my power button turns it on intially, and can be pressed to turn off and on the beater bar. But the beater bar button (gray) only shuts the vacuum off.
