Ended up picking this vacuum up used for £60. It does my 2 bedroom flat perfectly, and then some. You sold me with this demo. Couldn't quite justify/afford a Miele C3 Cat & Dog at this moment in time, but this is fantastic for the time being. Thanks!
Just purchased one of these to use at work as I'm a cleaner , I can honestly say that I am very satisfied with this dyson. Our old work vacuum was a dyson dc40 which died from the handle and bin assembly snapping off of the actual ball itself!
Very very nice product review and video. Professional! Your demonstrations and dialogue were straight to the point and helpful and very informative. Thanks!
This is a great vacuum. Got it this year on sale. I and my wife love it. As fr as cleaning the stairs. You can clean half from the lower floor and then take the vacuum up with you to the higher floor and clean the rest of the stairs from the top.
I have one of these. Pretty good. I have noticed that it can block all too easily where the suction hose bends from the head to the upright position. Can be accessed for cleaning , but a little fiddly to do. I give it 4 stars out of 5.
Thank you so much for this video; the Dyson instruction manual I had is useless - one of the worst manuals I have ever seen! It doesn't show at all how to remove the wand once you have assembled it for a start. Your video makes everything as clear as day - and no dreadful, unnecessary background music! Brilliant.
Probably the best review channel i've seen, I know that's not really fair given there are many different products and things to review but the level of detail you include and show in these videos is above and beyond of any reviewer ive seen. btw I just ordered this vacuum, i'm glad i did after seeing this. ( I do not have any pets :D )
Roger, would you choose the Light Ball or the Dyson Ball Animal 2 please? Looking at your videos, I like the articulating handle on the Animal. Thank you.
The hard floor pick up was extremely good and general dirt pick up carpets was also good. The pet performance wasn't so good and obviously the length of the hose limits it's stair cleaning ability but overall an impressive vacuum cleaner.
It has it's flaws, but it is one of the best Dyson uprights I've bought. I will be including this in my new vacuum of the month series starting next year.
Before I started doing research on vaccum cleaners I wanted a Dyson so bad. I had a Fantom vaccum back in 1999. It was ok. But after that, I never really wanted another bagless option. I purchased a meile vaccum and I really like that. Sense then I obtained s riccar and j love it even more. I happened upon a thirty year old Royal. I absolutely love the riccar and the Royal. You can feel the strength of the vaccum. I'm going to get a sanitare and that's it. I my get rid of the meile. Its ok, but not as great as the others.
Great review as always roger. I got this model as soon as it came out for £199 and I have to say it's one of the best Dysons I've had in a long time. It is extremely good on hard floors as well as carpet as you demonstrated. I tend to keep on the middle suction setting for all floors. The hose I found has to have a good stretch out but I'm sure will loosen over time. I found on my machine though the cable is incredibly stiff for some reason but hasn't put me off. All in all I'd recommend this to anyone. !!
The stiff cable is probably made from recycled PVC, as are a lot of those on new appliances made in the far East, or even elsewhere these days. I've noticed this for several years - a horrible texture and feel, and much prefer the flexibility of the older type.
How would this work on hardwood floors?Could you leave the brushroll on without damage to hardwoods?I'm currently using a dc50 and a Miele S8 Marin with the parquet tool. I may call Dyson to see if this machine is coming to the USA.Thanks again.
I have this cleaner and just wondered if there was any way of cleaning the cyclone bit. I didn't keep the filters cleaned often enough and they are now clogged with dust (still works, but can't be good for the motor). Pls would you have any tips for how to clean that out? Thanks
I had this dyson but i found it was very difficult to to push along my carpet since I have very thick carpets so I put it back. I also bought the v8 cordless and I love it so I'm thinking of buying the dyson cinetic big ball upright.
Lucky ones in the UK, I haven't seen this new style upright with the new floor head and the red click attachments! 😠 Dyson said himself he's focusing on the cordless products 😢
Hey Roger, great video as always. Getting a new house with new carpets and want to make sure we maintain them. We’re coming from a house with all wooden floors so I’m looking for a new vacuum that will keep the pile looking good. Would you recommend this Dyson or the Shark DuoClean?
thisismynametb If I'm honest, I'd go with a Kirby for a carpeted house with brand new carpet. You can get an older model like a Sentria for fairly cheap and it'll perform wonderfully. The agitation and suction power of a Kirby is a force to be reckoned with and they are one the very best deep cleaners on the market. That's my own recommendation.
wow one of the best review for all vacuum cleaner which one do you thing the best and which one easy to use the light ball long one part or the cylinder one with tube Kind Regards
Is it normal for there to be suction at the top of the handle, where that little slotted flap cover is ? I feel like I'm losing suction at the brush because of the suction I'm experiencing at the top of handle.
When you recline the handle, and are using the brushroll you shouldn't feel suction at the handle. You should only feel suction at the handle when the machine is standing upright. Maybe contact Dyson
I very rarely use any of my uprights to clean stairs and tend to use a hand held or cylinder machine. I don't like Dyson uprights much for above floor cleaning.
Hi Roger, Interested to know what you think of the cleaner head? I have had the DC40 for years and the bin always fills up with very fine dust and sand that cannot otherwise be seen. I tried the Light Ball but all it seemed to pick up was “fluff” did not seem to be picking up the finer dirt, although it didnt appear so by the debris collected in the bin. Thanks
I think the DC40 has more agitation, but I prefer the Light Ball mainly due to it being much quieter. I have found a fair amount of fine dirt in the bin of my Light Ball.
ibaisaic Thanks for the reply Roger. Do you think the bristles on the DC40 are abnormally stiff compared to other vacuums? They seem like they would rip a carpet to shreds eventhough they dont appear to.
Just left dyson after years of buying them. Ive just bought a shark and am VERY impressed. Also having my previous dyson as the dc40 animal i had major issues with the stupidly narrow suction channel in the head which ALWAYS blocked with heavy pet hair. Out of the box its ok but after a few years it clogs easily. This new dyson has a much bigger suction hose/outlet in the head which copes better with pet hair. The shark i feel has thw exact same performance and yet much lower price, and it has NEVER blocked. End of me buying dyson!
+ibaisaic wish it were sooner! I'm on the verge of buying a new vacuu, as mine has given up the ghost. Just by the by, they cost double here in South Africa and we have few Dyson models to choose from. Tx for getting back to me x
+ibaisaic that's the feeling I got after watching your demo but alas only the small ball is available here. Would you say, if pressed, that I should perhaps take a look at Miele? I won't hold you to it :)
Highly doubt they will bring this to the US. There are stronger needs here and I don't think that'll cut it. The Ball Animal 2 in the US is more powerful and better than this. We should be fortunate.
Great video I agree rating 4 out of 5 but empty the vac don't leave it to fill to max ??? You ll get a better use of it if you de of emtyed it early dose
now i realized, this Dyson is light ball mean is named Light Ball and not DC(with number ) like similar design are named ..I was looking the other day "what DC is this dyson" and i gave up without knowing what model of Dyson this was till now .
Oh I forgot to say this, I wish riccar , sanitare, and royal would keep the metal parts and make a vacuum as handy as this Dyson with the pull off handle and such. But I won't complain
I have just purchased a Dyson Small Ball and I am having trouble operating it because the suction is so strong I can only pull the cleaner on my carpets I can not push it even the brushes won't turn on our carpets. My husband has taken over vacuuming our carpets, but when he pushes the vacuum he has to have the handle close to the floor and use two hands, it works perfectly on our tiled areas but having problems as said with carpets can anyone tell me how to get past this problem.
I don't know, I only noticed that myself when I did the extreme pet hair test. During normal use I haven't had that problem. It's not a stain though as it was removed when I went over it again.
The ratings are based on cleaning a specific type of dust from a specific type of floor with a crevice in the middle of it, so can only be used as a rough guide. No rating tells you how well a vacuum picks up pet hair either.
It's unbelievable that Dyson doesn't provide any tool to vacuum under furniture like Flat out head with this model... Ball Animal 2 comes with additional turbine head that you can use to vacuum under furniture but the tool is not compatible with Light Ball as the fitting on this machine is slightly different.. A huge disappointment from Dyson. Provided tools don't work if you want to vacuum under bed as they don't have a right angle..
Paul Illingworth I think with how those brushes are designed, they are not enough to dig deep into carpets extracting more dirt like the US Ball Animal 2.
In your intro you showed the cleaner doing a pass over dirt, this showed the one things these cleaners do that I can't stand. Blowing the surface dirt around!!! If they can design a cleaner so advanced then why does it have to blow the surface dirt about!!
All vacuums do this, and have done this, for decades. The only vacuums I can think of that don't exhaust downward on the floor is the Electrolux canisters from the 1970's.
I have many vacuums that exhaust air upwards such as my Miele cylinders and the Sebo machines have an airbelt that diffuse the exhaust air so they don't blow dust around.
I use a Vax Air Lift Cordless, the exhaust vents are at the top of the canister. Not the most powerful vacuum obviously, but I wanted a cordless one so it had to be that one.
Better question, why does it matter? EU will still have regulations after we've left, so unless Dyson then make products only for sale in the UK and not the EU, they will still have to conform to the standards. And, unless we create our own equally or more stringent stringent standards the only difference will be Dyson and other vacuum makers will be allowed to sell noisier, less efficient models to UK customers. Tell me how you think that will benefit anybody.
