Great video! The image coming out of the lenses was definitely awesome but they're definitely better suited to a larger camera body. Felt like they were going to snap the mount right off of my FX30 because of that size and weight 😂
Haha thank you George! Yeah I agree. I’ve been having a great time using them for all of the talking heads of the upcoming YT videos. So for interview setups they are the bomb. But for run and gun I also prefer something smaller in size.
Hi Aya, happy to see a female filmmaking youtuber, there are not many of you out there. Here is a short film by French/Australian filmmaker Florent Piovesan (Of Two Lands) shot with the DZOFilm Arles Primes on the Blackmagic 6K FF. What do you think of that camera (and coming Pyxis)? Wouldn't you like to upgrade your Komodo OG (s35) to the Pyxis (FF)? I think the image quality coming from that FF sensor is very impressive, it has this '3D pop' quality to it (three-dimensionality of the images). The only issues are that the BM 6K FF ergonomics is not very flexible, the sensor is also not very good in low light (Komodo neither), and the rolling shutter is slow so you have to be careful with camera movements and when using anamorphics. But image wise, I think this Blackmagic FF 6K camera (and future Pyxis) are unbeatable below the $8K US price range. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PQ9R7GMyUrY.html
Hi! Thanks for the kind words. Yes I know Florent’s work. Regarding Blackmagic, I’ve use the BMPCC 6K for a documentary shoot in Vietnam, but it just wasn’t my camera. Maybe it was due to ergonomical factors, but I didn’t feel it. I haven’t had an interest in testing the Pyxis yet, I’m more curious about the Kinefinity Mavo, again an LF sensor. :)
I agree with you, this is directed more towards more traditional filmmaking / bigger productions. The bigger front diameter makes you think more of a mattebox and rectangular filters, rather than trying to get circular 95mm filters... They're amazing though. Would love to see these paired with the new Blackmagic Cine Camera 12k.
Thanks for the honest review! I also run Vespids on Komodo with a PL speedbooster, and after looking at these, 1 T-stop difference and a more clinical look are definitely not something I would want to upgrade or switch to, especially given that with the added weight I definitely won't be able to use them as comfortably on DJI RS4 Pro
Thanks for sharing! Yes that was also my thinking. I feel that they’ll be useful for people just tapping into Large Format sensors and also for tripod use when filming interviews or documentary talking heads.
