My catta ace is not parfocal throughout the Zoom range. I switched from PL to EF and used .14mm of the shims provided. Anyone know the solution to getting this lens to work?
You have to continue adjusting the shims until it’s parfocal as not every mount and lens is made identically. This is a thing with even far more expensive lenses but the more expensive lenses make the process a lot easier with adjustable knobs at the rear of the lens so you don’t have to adjust shims. It’s kind of a pain with the DZO lenses because you have to remove the mount each time you adjust it but there’s not really another option. There are some documented methods to do it online through DZO’s website and an equation to follow. Essentially you have set up a focus chart, or anything really that allows you to focus on fine details and then focus the lens at close and far distance scale, while adjusting the shims until they stay in focus through out the focal range. It’s not super difficult once you remember how the equation works but it can be pretty time consuming. It took me about 2 hours per zoom lens. Most of that time was spent taking the mount off the lens over and over to adjust the shims. Another thing to remember is that one you adjust the shims, it will more than likely only be parfocal on the camera you used to adjust the lenses.
