Consider the fact that EFF won the ground war with air superiority and their only potential opponent still flies the Dopp, a fighter outclassed by the TIN Cod, it makes a lot of sense for in-atmosphere force to still fly the core fighter and core boosters.
@cipher173 very true. Tanks and core fighters were never obsolete in the Gundam universe, they just became combat support for the mobile suits. Same with submarines.
@cipher173 well the ZEON amphibious mobile suits are monsters and the real terror of the deep. Mobile suits like the Z’gok and Hygoog left no room and close the distance with close quarters fighting. I was expecting the federation to create more amphibious support for the aqua GM. But the submarines provided good transport and reconnaissance for mobile suits and could attack transport ships.
@cipher173 the ZEON amphibious mobile suits come off as giant sea monsters while the aqua GM comes off as deep sea divers being attacked by the giant sea monsters. I feel like if the E.F.F. Would have spent more time making defensive weapons and converting more balls for amphibious warfare then E.F.F. Amphibious forces would be more of a force.
They turned the core fighter into a parasite fighter they even deploy from the wings of the MS carrier plane. Ngl it's kinda smart, saves them fuel for deployment.
02:07 and we will never find out how she survived somehow being sucked into the vacuum of space only to make it with a backwards religious cult. It's truly a shame that Sunrise just abandoned Thunderbolt. I wonder why? And yes, I know I can look it up via the manga, I just haven't gotten around to it. 😅
It is still funny that Zeon's answer to the sky is just a terribly designed fighter craft liek the Dopp and a Gaw Carrier that is basically a WWII bomber plane. Like they basically had the idea that it would just be the same as space crafts since living in a colony doesn't give you much idea to how aircrafts should be designed in a combat situation.
this scene really highlight how terrible dopp as a fighter are. dopp can be easily outmaneuver by a corefighter, lets imagine how well zeon dopp can hold against more advanced fighter such core booster that can even shot down a gelgoog
The thing has a tiny wing and its cockpit and weapons pylon awkwardly stuck out above the frame. Its aerodynamic profile is a brick but even a brick can fly if you apply enough thrust to it.😂
It's already outclassed by the TIN Cod and Saberfish. It really can't stand it's ground against Core fighters and Core boosters (with the latter being the mainstay fighter for EFAF).
@@seawind930 Dopp can't fly in space tho. It uses Jet engines. Those require Atmosphere to fly (thus it can fly within the colonies but not outside of them.)
one of the few elements i loved about Thunderbolt was the fact that it showed the EFF had more than two braincells to rub together. Within the OG Timeline, the Core Block/Fighter Concept lost out in favor of a cheaper "One Piece" mobile suit. Yes, the GD Project, Double Zeta and Narrative all have Core Fighters, however, all o them are prototypes or one-offs. Just imagine how much more deadlier an EFF Airborne Carrier could be if it was packed with Core Fighters. The scene with the Medea showcases this perfectly. Small enough a single Medea can carry two for intercept and defense, folded up and tucked away in a bay. Imagine a Carrier-type airframe capable of supporting an entire wing of 60+ Core Fighters + a handful of Booster Parts. or god-forbid, a larger, dedicated Air Superiority version of a Core Fighter.
OG EFAF uses Core boosters and core fighters too. But yeah it would be great if OG transport plane carries its own Core fighter squadron instead of relying on Core Booster Escort.
well although I appreciate the video, but this just highlight how pointless it is to use core fighter as an actual fighter in atmosphere, those Zeon fighter should have out maneuver them, also many flight pattern and evasion doesn't make sense in real life. May be they can justify it by give core fighter with Vernier Thrusters, which give them maneuverability which is not characteristic of traditional fighter and thus give them better advantage.
Canonically Dopp is a terrible fighter, and Federation holds the sky during the whole war. The most effective counter-MS tactic for Feds on Earth before they have GM is actually fighter-bomber strike.
HOW? Dopp was already outclassed by the TIN Cod with a shotdown record of 1:8-1:10, giving EFF complete air superiority that they won the Odessa Campaign with less than 80 units of MS including guntanks. The core fighter was the advanced version of TIN Cod and there's no way the Dopp can outperform the core fighter nor EFAF's mainstay fighter the core booster.
@@benlex5672 With that info you provide, I think there is a good point to make, but Even in thunderbolt, where core fighters are use in GMs, it would have make way more sense if they use the resource to create a more aerodynamic fighter then a flying brick, which would consume way more fuel and way worst performance. In real life, little adjustment of the shape of a fighter will result in great impact of the performance. Imo to make it make sense, it would imply that EFAF has way more advanced technology then Zeon, and the resources are mismanaged that there are many surplus core fighters.
