At long last, here's my assembly and flight review of the E-flite P-39 Airacobra 1.2m (currently on sale at Horizon Hobby!). It was my original intention when I got the model to provide this review, but when it ended up crashed in the weeds at our field, it took a little longer to get here than I planned, haha! I will say that I love this little model, especially after the refinish. Flies so great! On a 4s 3200mah pack (bit.ly/Sm4s3200), it has fantastic power and can fly for extremely long flight times. One of my favorite E-Flite planes. I actually disassemble the wing so it sits on my shelf when not in use. Unlike the E-Flite Texan, which has a similar main wing disassembly, the Airacobra needed a little finessing with the bolts. Mainly they are hard to screw in at first, which makes it hard to tell when they are seated correctly because you need a lot of torque to tighten them. Also made disassembly not practical. To fix, I simply cleaned wing nuts/screw by using some oil and slowly screwing and unscrewing the bolts and wiping the threads. Did this until the bolts and nuts screw in together easily. Now it's easy to finger tight the wing on and remove for storage.

Nice! The screws can be a little tight on this, but for me I rarely ever take the airplane apart.

Love the repaint. I did the same to mine without the crash lol. I chose the Brooklyn Bum 2nd scheme from Cali Graphics. I agree this plane is great to fly and I have flown mine strictly on 3s 3000 battery's w/ 5 minute plus flight time. I'll give it a try on the 4s 3600 I have them so what the heck I'll check it out. Good video.

i had a crash with my p39 aircobra but is was the fms one and the entire fuselage was split in half and what i did to fix it was i just epoxyed and fiberglassed the entire inside of the fuselage and never had problems since

Just a great review as always Chris. Well presented & videotaped. I bought it here in Australia & have found the Spektrum 636 takes a lot longer with my DX9 to connect each time compared with my other 14 E-flite models...strange. Also have tried to switch from SAFE to AS3X on the H switch but remains on SAFE. I do the 5xflick with sticks in & have made all DR to 100%...any ideas? Regards mate & keep safe & well

Thank you! Double check that the switch you’re trying to assign safe to is assigned to a channel. It can be assigned to any switch assigned to channels 5-9.

In my opinion, this is the Best flying and handling WW2 warbird E-Flite has added to the line-up. I just wish they offered it in Soviet Air force livery as FMS does.

Thank you! I think it would be a really good candidate. It’s pretty high performance on 4cells so just need to be aware there, but it’s a great flyer.

It’s called an accuthrow meter and was made by great planes. Unfortunately, it’s not made anymore.

hey I just got there Cobra and my prop doesn't have any markings on it what size prop does it air cover use the best to use on air cobra this is Craig

My wings won't go tight with the screws that came with it any ideas

Sounds like the screws aren’t catching the threads. With the wing off, do the screws push completely through? If not, could be some junk in there keeping that from happening. Otherwise, filing a small bevel on the end of the screw should help grab the threads if there’s a small misalignment happening.

I tried the 4cell on the Spitfire 1.2m. The battery motor got so hot that it melted the plastic motor mount. So. I'm extremely hesitant to try the 4c on the P-39.

I’ve only been flying this model on 4 cells and not had any issues. I also like to fly it pretty aggressively on the throttle. Keep in mind that if you’re flying a lot of partial throttle, that’s actually when you put the most load on the esc and when it’ll get hot. The system has to dissipate the unused power somehow and so does so through heat in the esc.

The Spitfire has a 5 bladed prop which pulls lot of amps , might be why you melted the motor mount

Dude, I know this video has some age on it but hoping you still have this bird. My question is about the front gear.....I have seen and heard lots of bad talk about the front gear. Of course not until AFTER I purchased the plane.... Did you encounter the bad juju with it? How did you fix the issue and what if any problems did you encounter? I have this plane and have had the nose gear stick open when flying and trying to retract. But work the switch again and it closed. I have also read it just breaks off when landing on grass or make a less than graceful landing. Anyway whats the fix before I tear it up?? Thx in advance.

You know, I still have the model and I’ve not had any gear issues with it at all. I could see a hard landing being problematic for the gear, but that would be the case for any airplane really. The airplane lands pretty nicely, but it’s important to flair in the touchdown. Touching down nose wheel first will cause it to bounce and could get it into trouble.

It’s one of my older videos on my channel. I took a FW F-15 strut and put it on the original strut after I cut and put two flat spots on frt and back. Try to find.
