aotearoa aroha nui! God bless this beautiful country - I spent almost one year there as well and I'll be back for sure. The kiwi anthem is the only one in the world I could remember after hearing it only a couple of times (both maori and english). Take care ya kiwis, hugs from Switzerland

I remember singing it back in 1974/78 when I lived in New Zealand as a kid. A brilliant period of my life... this lovely young lady with an equally wonderful voice sends the shivers up my spine, awsome...

ha! This is Aotearoa/New Zealand. Beautifully performed without any political bias, quite possibly a person with ethnic ties to both Maori and non-Maori links. For all of those who dont know her, she speaks english well too.lol. If only Aotearoa was a more perfect reflection of this aye?

I am in love with the Maori culture. I was watching a video on FB of a family welcoming their son with a haka and since I cannot stop searching for more info. I am in the process of teaching myself the language...it is beautiful. God bless!

Lovely! Of course I have to say God Save the Queen is best, being English and all, but by far my next favourite NA is New Zealand! And this is sung with a beauty you find rarely in this day and age. +Your Rugby team is poetry in motion, shame the weather got you this weekend :(

Woah this reminds me of the tape we used to listen to in school to learn this... I actually don't even have any memory of listen to the tape but when I hear this it makes me 'feel' like I remember, and I'm pretty sure we did.

because its about showing pride in the culture and original roots of the island. hawaii is a state of the US but our anthem is in the native language--Hawaiian.

The first part is in Maori, and the second part is in english, for those who do not know what the maori "bit" means (: It's right, except "Aotearoa" Doesn't mean "New Zealand" it means "Land of the long white cloud" (: Hope that helps (:

I love the Kiwi anthem... both english and maori verses. I would love it if Australia also had an Aboriginal verse in our Anthem but it is just so impractical. There is something like 150 individual active languages originally steming from 750 languages. There would never be a consenus

***** I consider having my arm snapped, face kicked in and hand sliced open to the ligaments in high school by the local island gang to be a experience more people should be aware of. Also the Teachers, Principals and Education Department that did nothing but explain to be that it was my fault for "not fitting in" and having a too strong of an accent. I would say being constantly asked when I was "going home" after living in New Zealand for 24 year by the locals defines their nation perfectly. It is a cr@phole on the rump of the world populated by bigoted, racist horrible people. (And I married one of them. Go figure?)

***** Dunedin, Balclutha, Westport, Christchurch and Auckland. Got horror stories from them all. Real racist bigoted stuff. First day working for ANZ in Auckland... during my welcome Q&A at staff meeting I was asked "so when do you plan on returning home?" Asking a parent politely to restrain her child from kicking the back of my chair at the Ballet. Told "we are a little more relaxed about such things compared to where you are from". Having drinks with my wife, random guy walks up and tells me to "leave their women alone". My wife... he considered my wife to be "his" because I have an accent. Oh yes... the heart of NZ has been revealed to me and it is black. All Black. That's what that team and country means to me. All Black... hearted. I could go on but RU-vid doesn't have the storage space.

***** "I apologize for the hate you have received from my country " *Ahem* I am a New Zealander by citizenship status. Perhaps you meant "our country" in your sentiment which I appreciate. Not trolling you … but language matters. I lived 23 years in New Zealand. More than half my life on this planet. I chose to become nationalized in 1984 and it hurts every time I am reminded I am not in the “inner circle” because I arrived when I was only 8 years old and sound different. Dude I appreciate your sentiment. Really I do. You are a credit your our nation.

EGTycoon Wow, that's horrible.. It's disheartening to hear that such treatment like that happened to you. I hope things have become better or are on the rise. For someone who thinks poorly about NZ, I'm surprised you even checked out this clip. Not that your initial statement is offensive.. my guess is, even though the experience has been a pretty crappy one, you feel a pull to the anthem (at least the Maori half) coz you are a kiwi and NZ is and always will be your home..? What you experienced btw, others may have as well... it would either make or break a person I would consider them a strong individual for not giving up and moving forward (like you have done). All the best.
