Corrections: Whistling Joe (X-files theme) is preset 483. The E-mu Proteus MPS is a rompler, not sampler. Myst came out in 1993, not 1995.

Gosh that synth lead grabbed me so hard, I'd be tempted to buy this literally just to always have that sound on hand. I also make ambient / industrial so being 1991 is what we aim for.

I think the reason why you didn’t like Wynwood Solo was because you left the mod wheel engaged and Steve doesn’t use it like in Arc Of A Diver.

I'm probably wrong on some of these, but after listening to this and various soundtracks, I believe this synthesizer had been used for LEXX, Descent, Final Fantasy VII, Alundra 1 & 2, Age of Empires series, Are you Afraid of the Dark?, Diablo, and Radiant Silvergun.

Bought it in Jan 1992, was a ground-breaker at the time. Had a road case for it, sold it about 5 years ago in mint condition. Kind of miss it, thought the keybed felt great.

Found your channel through looking to see if I should keep my Proteuses (Protei?) and I'm super glad the algorithm did that. My wife and I are musicians and Myst has always been kind of a weird touchtone for people our age, haha. Anyway I showed her this video and she's like, "Wait, we have this?" I'm like, "Dude, they've been upstairs for years." So now she's back to being inspired by sound and the keys and playing in C minor (that's her "testing keys" key too haha), so thanks for reminding her a bit of why we got into this music thing to begin with. Also, was stoked you're on the darker side of electronic music. Lmk if you're ever in need of strings of various types. 🤘

I don't think these sounds are dated at all, the original Proteus modules are starting to become difficult to find. I'm hoping to either buy a Proteus One Plus Orchestral or buy them as 2 separate modules since they are very slimline units. I also have a Roland U-220 on it's way. The Proteus 2 Orchestral came out in 1990 but both the Proteus Plus Orchestral keyboard and module came out in 1991. I still prefer the Roland U-220 when it comes to sounds like pianos, basses and saxophones but the Proteus does have "realistic" woodwinds. No Whistling Joe patch? Maybe I will wait until the Proteus 1 and 2 modules are listed and in the mean time continue to work with the Proteus sounds I have in DSK Virtuoso, Synthway DrumWavy and Mixcraft's legendary Acoustica Instruments library.

I too was blown when I discovered my Proteus MPS Plus didn't have the Whistl'n Joe patch.

Yes, it does have the X-Files Whistl'n Joe- patch number 183.

Very nice collection of 8 megabytes of Emulator III samples. I had just bought a 4 megabyte Emax II at the time, all this was available on disk. However I had to get a Syquest drive immediately afterwards because loading 8 floppy disks for every bank isn't practical.

Man for me it's all about the sounds here some are still timeless and holding up. So if you just want the sounds you can alternatively get a Proteus 2 Orchestral rack module and then find the Protozoa card.. is that how it goes? I do recognize the immediacy of the keys and controls and how fun that it. Sorry one last question when you play one patch and switch to the next live, does the decay of the previous patch cut off? Thanks for another in depth review that had me coming back for more.

I honestly I only really like the basic waveforms and LFO's on the Proteus/2 overall. I mean it's alright to play with, but those are the only sounds on it that I'd say won't quickly drown out a actual recording mix with all the harshness and muddiness of the dated sound. I suppose if you're looking for a more muddy sound though.

The Korg Prophecy has the whistler patch used in X-Files.

Not a sampler, but a ROMpler. I love mine, but it sure is dated sounding.... sometimes in a good way, but not always.

Me struggling to not go on to Reverb and ordering one or the rack version. I keep saying, "this sound is so cool... but I am sure I can recreate this well with my Kurzweil K2000S"

If you want more subscribers, perhaps you could consider dropping the expletives. I'm not easily offended, and I use them myself (when I'm angry), but on the other hand, I don't create RU-vid videos either. The expletives don't add anything meaningful, and just make you sound uncouth.
