I have 4 pairs of GS, boots, a loafer, and a longwing. Love them for the fit, build quality, and comfort, great Americana style - I will buy more. I will say my Alden #8 shell perforated cap toe on the military last is my absolute favorite boot - I understand why Wyatt holds Alden in high regard. I love that we have both options and I hope GS is around in 50 years. Great conversation!

I love my pare of brass boots. I thought ball is off from insole perspective but it broke in nicely

Superb. Always good to hear from Wyatt and the GS team. Big fan of their boots and my collection has quickly grown over the past year and a half. Keep up the good work guys!

Great interview. I like how you push the questions that got almost skiped by broad anwsers

Finally someone talking about a problem in the "high-end" shoe market / industry: unwearable toe-squashing shapes that people like because of "the looks" instead of having just a normal pair of actually wearable wide-enough boots.

Nice interview. Bought my first pair of GS last month and found the quality to be impeccable, so quickly followed up with 4 more pairs. I have done quite a bit of research on boots, and GS is top for the best quality per price. Nope, I am not paid to say all these. 😄

Great interview, seems to be a good intro to the brand. Lots of this stuff has been covered endlessly even in your own Ashland convo with Wyatt previously. I now have 11 pairs of GS. Interested in new make ups, models and improvements in existing products. Cheers.

This was very informative. I really dislike being told loose grain and bad break on CXL is due to lottery when companies like Grant Stone and Nicks tend to have better aging. It's completely a discussion of cutting and yields/byproduct. Knowing this fact, we shouldn't beat up a customer service rep over bad break but try to spread awareness and appreciation of slow fashion to newcomers.

They tend to have wide lasts, so there is that...

What a wonderful Christmas gift this interview is to close out 2022! My interest in Horween leather (the best in the world) around this time last year led me to Ashland, and my interest in Ashland led me to Grant Stone. It’s been beautiful serendipity. Just this year alone (“ish”) I’m at least a dozen product purchases in across the Ashland line (wallets, belts, keychains, leather care, etc.) and 5 pairs of Grant Stones (+ some merch and leather care products as well). I’ve also purchased a full shell of Color #8 from Horween this year on the secondary market that I display in my office as art, because it is. At least a few times a week I have people ask me about my boots or my wallet, and I always take the time to point them to your brands. I’m hoping you’ve maybe seen an uptick in sales here in Ohio! Lol I say all that to say…I’m so passionate about these 3 brands from this interview, and I appreciate the art and craft that you all put out into the world. Thank you. Cheers to big things in 2023! -Jesse Reed

Just saw another cobbler who did a video of a GS diesel boot resole. He showed that the boot has paper/synthetic material between the insole and the cork. Very disappointing. I was under the impression that GS didn’t use synthetic materials in their construction

Good discussion and very informative. Thank you, and subscribed. I know customers complain but am surprised that it occurs so often, and so nitpicking. I don't complain, but when there are issues I don't go back. That said, I'm a big fan of Grant Stone. Superb products and excellent customer service.

Amazing shoes! Bought my first pair in 2020 and now own 8 pairs and always on the site looking for another. I own 7 pairs of Nick's, 4 White's, 1 pair of JK's a couple Redwings and a couple Wolverines and 1 pair of Truman's and a far as quality, craftmanship and price it doesn't get any better.

Learning more and more about "perfect sizing" and hearing people sayng people always size wrong makes me more and more belive there is no perfect fit, just fit that person likes mixed with what person needs for day to day life/work. As barista i do a lot of side to side steps and if my shoes boots are not on the tight side on the beginning they will become baggy after half of the year and after a year or 2 they will try to roll over and natural size is all really quite narrow to start with. I belived heel to ball is the answer and than there is sizing up and down with correspondence to with that would make ball meshurment totally of in theory but it works on a lot of people. And that is a great point you brought that so many different sizes can work for same pare of feet. I see it in my own collection. Im courious to know history of sizing and why male sizes goe up and down over brannock few sizes wile lady size is off by half size over entire range of shoes, boots and sneekers

The "debate" over Westons opinion of Alden Indy's is because Alden was exposed. Maybe some changes and material choices can be explained but not all of them. It's a good book but priced high for what you get. Overpriced is not the the worst thing to be.

the debate regarding Rose Anvil's criticism of Alden Indy's is simple - what do you prefer and how do you prefer your priorities. Value is the reason why people like me obsess over brands like Grant Stone. For 2/3 of the price, i am buying a pair that is better built than Indy's. But if others value the heritage and the brand of Alden Indy's, then by all means and pay the price that they're asking for even if it means hidden components like the heel counter isn't as durable as Grant Stone's. everyone has different priorities when it comes to value. But if made in America means more to you then Alden is a terrific choice even if it means you compromise hidden components that may not be as durable as Grant Stone's. if you just want straight value then go for Thursday Boots. It's all about what you prefer.

I think this is a great comment. To summarise what Rose Anvil point was, why do Alden boots cost what they do considering the materials used? As mentioned here, they have bricks and mortar stores & salesmen.

It's not just about made in America. The Grant Stone is a well made shoe/boot, but the overall aesthetics do not approach the level of Alden or Crocket & Jones. Not even close. As far as the cheaper price? Let's see China open their currency up on the open market and then see how long that Grant Stone boot remains at the $380 price point. I have a feeling that the price would go up substantially.

"All our components are chosen for a reason" is very different from "here are the reasons for all our components". If explaining yourself has become impermissible descent to dignifying criticism, count the hearses: there go your customers. The grandpa I remember got messed up in the war. He banged boxes together at an army station. No shoe lore.

I knew there is snobbery in the watch world. I had no idea there was such snobbery in the shoe world. You guys are so down to earth. You are shoemakers. The problem is that you're also in the customer service industry and customers are a*sholes.
