E15: 1930's General Store is OPENED for the First Time in Years after closing in 1991
Exploring Inside of the Robertson Store: Part 15 of Greasy Hollow Memories
It had been many years since the doors of the Robertson Store had been opened, but on this episode we go inside for the first time. After the grocery store closed in the early 90’s, Magdalene opened it back up as a Thrift store that she called, “Mag’s Junk Store”. The store still holds all of the cups, glasses, dishes and other household items that Magdalene had purchased from yard sales to resale. The store also still holds countless memories of three generations of Robertson’s that operated the store.

I used to catch the school bus in a store like this in the early 1970’s in Caldwell County Kentucky. I loved the cooler drink machine. I’d use my dime just to be able to slide the drink out and use the bottle flip. A bottle of pop tasted better back then too. You really appreciated it as well.

Seen elders eyes open up with relived memories n his daughter coming by. Recently lost my grandfather who grew up I'm the depression Era and going through his items 😢 it's so damn sad how throw away today's society is. My grandfather had tools, house hold items..ect from 1905-2008 when he semi retired that was just absolutely beautiful and built to last. I'm fortunate enough to inherit these items everything from 1905 hand held brass air pumps to ford a model and b model car parts up to today's parts n items. It reminds me of my 89 years old grandfather riding his mower still moving stuff n his mower trailer....I miss and love that man. Nebraska grown

Just happened to run across this video. Thank you for documenting and preserving the history of this gentleman and times gone by. These newer generations dont have a clue about life, or the ways we grew up in. I used to sit for hours and hours listening to my grand father talk about life and the old ways, war, hard times, the depression, and the history of his family. It seems that we lost a lot of history because it wasnt preserved like this. I hope this gentleman is doing well, and please tell him thank you for allowing you time and access to preserve history.

@@theappalachianchannel Hello, John…. I totally enjoy watching your videos. We live in east Texas…in Price. which is an unincorporated community in Rusk County….community that used to be named Carlisle over a hundred years ago and the school is still Carlisle Independent School District…very small. Our next to youngest daughter lives in Kingsport, Tennessee…a beautiful area. I am proud to be a third generation Texan from when my great-grandparents, on my maternal side, came to America from France in 1872 and settled eventually in Dallas County where my grandfather was born in what would become Irving in October of 1887…if I were from anywhere else, I would love to live in Appalachia but I can’t leave my beautiful home state of Texas. These places MATTER. They're part of your great country's history and should be listed and preserved, once they're gone they're gone, and just a memory remains, which itself will fade away. I live in the UK, and the village shop and corner shop have all but disappeared, knocked down and re-developed, usually to make way for housing estates. They call it 'progress' I call it a great shame. Love these videos.

My Grandparents lived on Pleasant Valley Rd. in Jonesboro Tn. They had a Dairy farm and a General Store. My Grandmother taught at Daniel Boons High school. While visiting my Grandparents one summer my cousin and I went into the then closed store, it was just as they left it. I absolutely loved it. Being in Jonesboro was part of the best memories I have.

I have 3-4 of those same green vases that is on the shelf behind the counter that go back to the early 60s that were my Mom's. I actually jumped up and pulled them out of the Cupboard. That place is a literal Museum. Thanks for Sharing!! ✌️😁

Interesting to say the least. Lots of history there. It would be great to gut the place and refinish it to what it would of looked like in the 1930's. I wonder how many coins fell through the floor cracks.
