Dude, you are so passionate about dragon fruit!!!! I don't know why I never subscribed to your channel before today but honestly, I've watched a lot of your videos and a lot of the videos from many of your gardening friends on RU-vid. It's funny how I got here... I was watching a guy's video and he was visiting you and What's funny about that is that it wasn't so very long ago that I wound up on his channel the same way! And I just love the passion and the camaraderie that you guys all share. I'm not here to drop names so I won't but I think you know the guys I've been talking about... I've learned soo much from them, and now thanks to them I can learn even more from you!

I've had some success and some failure. The plants are doing good but my cuttings are not rooting and seem to just slowly die. But my seeds from the store-bought fruit are taking off! Of course, I don't want to wait years for fruit but it's nice to have something growing. Can't wait to see the new rooting method in the next video. Greetings from AZ!

Hi Richard, thank you for sharing your videos, they are a great source of information. I have 3 varieties I’m growing in containers like yours. I’m not sure of one of them but, I do have a red and a white. The other I took a cutting from my father’s. We have never seen the fruit from it as, dad just let it grow up a tree on the back of his property. As they are all almost at the top of the trellis, I can’t wait till they fruit next season. Thanks again TrickyTrev 🇦🇺🌱👍🐝

Hi Richard, wuick question I went to replant a pink dragon fruit but found root was starting to rot as it wasn't potted properly with enough drainage. I cut the root and leaving it to dry and will then try to get it growing asgain. Will this work or should i just ditch it. Thanks for sharing all your learnings.

You should try using a liquid bone meal product like Herculean Harvest to flush with, it ties up / binds with the salts, leaving them free to become microbe food later on, while adding calcium + phosphorus, especially good for root development as well as flowering/fruiting plants.

Hey Richard. I found your channel just when my dragon fruit cuttings began to sprout after 4 months of winter. I like your episode style of videos. They are very helpful and informative. I'm going to follow your advice totally. I wanted to know, since you plant 4 cuttings in a pot, there could be a stem that is away from the sun, so do we need to rotate the pot every few days. I want to know because my pots are placed against a wall and the cutting towards the wall will not get direct Sun.
@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 3 года назад
Thank you for following! The cutting that’s away from sun will still grow and climb to the top of the trellis. No need for rotating the pot. Once it reach to the canopy it will flourish and get all the sun it needs.

I’m curious if you grow with a wooden trellis frame how kind does the trellis last ? When it rots is it possible to save the dragon fruit plant and replace the trellis ?
@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 3 года назад
I use Cedar wood, this wood is more compact and naturally resistant to mold and rot. My very first trellis that I built lasted about 7-8 years before we had to tear it down for remodeling.
@IQzminus2
@IQzminus2 3 года назад
I’m planning of having at least the bottom part that goes into the ground lightly charred, as that was the traditional method Viking’s used to make wood more water resistant where I live/my climate. Especially ends of logs that would be going into the ground. I think Japan have a sort of similar method called shou sugi ban. But I’m not planning on using any oil. It looks really cool, and if I manage to get sort of good at the technique, I’m planing on doing the whole wood trellis.

@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 3 года назад
Good question! I grow in pots mainly because it gives me the freedom to move them around. Also if I didn't like a certain variety its very easy to remove and replace. I also like that the black containers contract heat so it warms up the roots to keep the productive.

Hi Richard! When tying the new growths, I get worried about constricting the shoots because they seem to look folded and squished. Is this normal or should I wait until they harden to tie them?
@GraftingDragonFruit
@GraftingDragonFruit 3 года назад
It's totally fine to tie them and snug them tight to the post and give them some constriction as long as its not to tight to the point that it will break the cutting. They will continue to grow and even get stronger from tying them.

No need to cut them, now that the weather is warmer they will heal on their own. Keep soil slightly on the dryer side and dont over water. This causee the cactus rust. Continue to let it grow and reach the top of canopy.
