So, in regards to the LSD/no LSD thing. It only matters if you only jack up one side of the car, like the article from Pelican Parts. If you have an open diff, only jack up 1 wheel and turn it while in gear, this rotates the engine. For models with an LSD you must jack up both sides since both always want to spin in the same direction. You dont need to rotate the engine from the crank bolt unless you have an automatic transmission.

E34's are great cars! I drove one for many years. There are many items that can cause idle issues, so its hard to pin point just one thing.

my 325e had idle issues, where it would pretty much rev on its own,up and down to about 3-4rpm. Ended up being a fried ecu

Cool! Another delphin in CT! Top tip you can leave the spark plugs in and keep the car on the ground. Just place the car in 5th gear and push it forward when you need to turn the cam

Thanks for sharing.......Nice Vid and nice clean engine too...................It is a perfect time of course to change the spark plugs because they are out any way. New Valve Cover Gasket and do not forget to replace the Rocker Shaft Plugs (4) (between shaft channel and valve cover gasket). Those will end up leaking oil if not replaced.

Hey Victor, the cold adjustment specs according to Bentley manual is .010 as Chris mentioned. Haha new video coming today that shows that special valve cover!

M40 has hydraulics lifters, so you cannot adjust them

Not needed you can just let it bleed off pressure in the chamber, but it does make it easier and a good time to check your plugs.

You shouldn't jack on the diff and it's easier to rotate the wheels in fifth gear as opposed to first ")

Hey there, nice vid - at 1:18, you mention replacing the breather hose. Happen to know what that part number is? I’m in the middle of replacing head gasket, and getting the head worked and need to get all my parts in so I can get the job done with minimal waiting...thanks!

What exactly is the reason for doing this? What results do you get if you found ones that are too tight and you adjusted them correctly?

Justin Mccluskey Justin great question. These old engines require valve clearance adjustment to keep them running smoothly and efficiently (well, as much as an m20 can!) proper clearances also reduces wear on the internal metal parts that open and close the valves. Overall definitely recommend adjustment of the valves periodically for best performance and longevity from the engine 👍🏻

Does the firing order matter when adjusting the valves? If so what is the order .

Firing order does not matter per se; but you may as well follow the firing order so you do less work (less rotations of the crank etc) so the order is 153624 but double check that with a Bentley manual (mine is not in front of me at the moment!)

Hey Derrick, this shouldn't take any longer than a few hours to accomplish. Maybe a little longer the first time you do it, but you'll get faster as you adjust the valves every year.

Avraj Samra my first car was an e30 too! ECU chipping is a good upgrade, especially if you get a $300 chip for half price used around $100-150 usd
