Mine been misfiring and watching this just made me realize how much money I’ll be spending for hours of troubleshooting + replacing all the hoses and probably everything you touched 😭😭

Yo, this video was AMAZING! So many golden tips and tricks from someone very knowledgeable and knows how to properly diagnose an old car like this. I have an m10 e30 so not everything applied to mine - but still great knowledge regarding vacuum leaks, that eta of BMW engine operation and navigation around a chilton/haynes manual (or factory bmw not sure what one you used specifically)!!

Thanks bro! I am using a service manual by Bentley Publishers. Definitely worth every penny if you plan on keeping your E30. You must have an early 318i car. I had one before a 1984 model. Awesome video, earned a sub from me. I have a 1987 325is that I bought a couple of years ago. I parked it in the garage about a month after I bought it since it was almost winter here and the salt on the roads ruins everything, so it's only a nice weather driver for me. Unfortunately when I took it out last April it had a nasty misfire, would only misfire after about 15- 20 minutes of driving or so when it was fully warmed up. Wouldn't want to rev past 3500-4k rpms or so. I didn't really drive it after it started doing that, and I noticed it started misfiring even on cold starts afterwards. I had a couple other projects to do so it just sat all year and I'm just getting to it now, will definitely use this video as a starting point. Been meaning to pick up that Bentley manual too so just ordered that.

Hello, had the same symptoms a few years ago. Found a small fuel leak on the fuel line on the "H" coupler in engine bay. All pressures and fuel delivery tested normal. Car would cut out at 4k RPM.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Not sure if you watched the entire video but this car ended up needing to have the rod bearings replaced. Misfire issue was due to a bunch of corrosion inside the fuel rail. Was blocking fuel flow tremendously.

I actually had a fuel injector leak and that’s how I found your channel. Was in search of how to replace the gaskets with the injector kits. That was I’m working on. Nevertheless I learned a couple things from the video

@@treverw1 lol, true. While I don’t hate Miatas, I just think compared to the E30 at least the bmw is a better car. I’ve owned a Miata, my buddy owns a Jackson racing supercharged one and it just gives him troubles.

Well. As you may have heard in the video, this motor developed a rod knock. So he actually has the motor apart right now awaiting new bearings.

what iu have is a very strange problem: 1. engine refused to start when cold. crank no start. it backfires in the exhaust and creates many explosions like unburnt fuel suddenly explodes. 2. when it starts, the rpm is very low. and pressing the gas pedal would just make it die. 3. continuous cranking and no start. tried like 10 minutes to no avail. 5. after one hour when i came back, it managed to start nicely. idle nicely. 6. but engine jerks when doing sudden acceleration like a vacuum present. 7. gradual increase the speed until it gets hot 8. engine hot, problem solved. 9. hot start engine always no problem. one crank sure start. I changed to a new fuel pump. But cold start problem seems to disappear. Managed to start. But when doing in gear acceleration, the engine jerks like fuel doesn't come in. explosions in exhaust. Later when engine is HOT, jerkiness disappears! What is the cause of this problem?

Do you have a M20 engine like this one in the video? Have you checked timing to verify it’s correct? Have you also checked your distributor cap and rotor? Spark plugs look ok?

@@Knownworldwide Sorry I forgot mention the important data. Yes. M20B25 engine 1988 1. timing is correct because once it starts, i idles beautiful. I have thought of changing the distributor cap and cables but I think this is unlikely to be the problem. 2. The ISSUE is why does it start well only when engine is HOT? 3. Replaced spark plugs first thought to be the culprit but no. No difference. 4. 3 days ago replaced fuel pump. So far it starts alright when cold. But when doing hard acceleration it jerks and retards, giving "explosions" in exhaust. Can fuel regulator be the issue? Usually this thing seldom fails. Now, the only issue maybe due to distributor rotor? Thought of changing this.

There can be many things contributing to poor running while hot. Fuel injectors could be clogged or not opening. Fuel pressure could be low. Air flap could be binding up in the AFM. The number one cause of poor running is usually vacuum leaks. Check for vacuum leaks everywhere. As far as cold start problems, you could have a problem with the cold start fuel injector or even the coolant temp sensor giving an incorrect reading to the DME. Unfortunately all these things need to be tested in order. If you can purchase a Bentley publishers manual it would help out a bunch!

@@Knownworldwide I think you misunderstood. It’s running FINE when hot. It’s not running well when cold but getting better as it becomes hot.

@@selespeed3 Check the cold start injector for proper flow and see if it’s leaking. Check the coolant temp (thermo time) sensor for correct operation as well. Again, search for the Bentley publication service manual. By far the best investment you can do if you plan on owning a e30.
