Love this generation of BMWs, have a 1988 E34 m20b20 here in Norway, got it this summer, fixed the jacking points, brushed away the rust under it, painted it and made it usable again, it dosent seem to have any dings or bulks and it seems like a very untouched clean car, but because its sat so long I've had to brush off a lot of rust, especially at the bottoms of the doors and everything since its Norway... anyway, will take care of it and keep it original but with a few tasteful mods like a 2.5 liter exhaust, a wooden bmw gear knob and a few small things, it has a light gray interior that is rare to find and I am rlly enjoying driving to and from classes with it daily :D

Good work on the E34! Yes the bottom of the doors are notorious to rust on the E34 and E32 cars. It's because of the strip that covers the bottom, the strip has metal clips that rust and it makes the door rust. Your mods sound good, not too much, just enough :)

This BMW E32 is so beautiful. I agreed that the doors are solid built. 1 thing i just learnt from here is that this gorgeous BMW E32 has the washer fluid head cater for fog lights. Simply amazing!

Yes it's impressive how solidly built the E32 is. And with lubricated door hinges the doors feel even more solid and nice. Also one thing I noticed recently, if you roll down a window completely and close the door, the window doesn't rattle inside the door. The door still feels 100% solid, unlike cheaper cars. Thanks for watching!

Nice car. My E34 is also from Canada originally. Fog washers were standard fare for the 735iL and 750iL. My E34, as it's CDN-Spec came with headlamp washers and fog washers - which was never avail. on any US E34. Yes, E32s have amazing sounding and feeling doors. E34s are 2nd in line.
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec

Hi, thanks! Didn't know the washers weren't offered in the US. We probably got them in Canada because of our winters. The doors really are incredible. The body panels are all very solid as well, you can tell there is significant insulation behind the sheet metal. It might not make it structurally stronger, but the perceived quality is incredible.

Do you know what causes that high pitched/ringing sound in the engine bay when the engine is idling in your video? I feel like most 735i's make that sound and the only thing I can think of that creates it is specific injectors.
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec Год назад
Hi, I know exactly the sound you mean. I show it in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RXo6P93wzQQ.html When pushing on the "3.5" on the intake manifold, the sound stops. It seems to be caused by air rushing into the manifold and causing some kind of resonance. Someone posted a video on youtube of a potential solution; I tried to find the video but didn't manage to find it. He showed a large metal disc bolted to the manifold, exactly where the "3.5" is. There was no high pitched sound in the video, only a low rumble. It worked great.
@aptoscomputer7324
@aptoscomputer7324 Год назад
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec Haha. I just watched the video. Who would have guessed. This puts me in a precarious position because my 92 735i DOESN'T make this sound, and I want it to. Sucks. Most people want the opposite. I think it sounds unique.

I have a 1990 735i and I noticed in some of the later models they have an ASC button to help with traction.. I don’t see the button in mine but I noticed a ASC light on the dash but it never activates when it should.. any help on what may need to be replaced or fixed to get it to activate?
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec 2 года назад
If your car does not have the ASC button, then it does not have that feature. The gauge cluster is the same for all cars whether it has ASC or not. Your car doesn't have a bulb installed behind the ASC logo. In ASC-equipped cars, the gauge logo lights up when the ASC button is pressed, to show that the function has been deactivated by the driver.

@@LiveFromTheGarage If the wiring for the system is there already, in theory it would be possible to retrofit the system. But since ASC is more of a safety system (compared to, say, a radio), I would not attempt to retrofit it. It's better to buy a car that already has the systems you want.

Wow, just saw this now. Incredible vehicle man. I am not sure but I think these were the last year for this generation but by this time they worked out most of the mistakes of the older models. Seeing that spare that probably never touched the road brings me joy. That is an exceptional vehicle, especially for Quebec. Your winters are worse but your roads are just as bad as Pennsylvania. We have been fighting for years to try to get a salt alternative. It is so bad for the cars and waterways. The leather seams on the doors is known to come loose. Cheap glue. Glue it back into place and let it cure overnight with a c-clamp. That engine bay will clean nicely. Make sure to check the connections, vacuum system is extremely sensitive and the hoses become brittle overtime, letting in “unmetered air” that affects performance. Suspension is also a problem as they get older, but yours seems to be at a nice height. Wish you the best of luck and I am not far away if you would like to further communicate.
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec 5 лет назад
Thank you for your comment! It is indeed exceptional to find a 90's vehicle in such a condition in Quebec. The harsh winters will disintegrate a chassis in about ten to fifteen years if the vehicle is not taken care of. Yes the spare is original. I took it out to inspect the bottom of the spare well (all dry) and it has a 91 production date. The tires on the car are also dated 91! In a week or two I will be installing a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 on E38 Style 61 wheels (16"). It should improve the ride quality... and safety. With some degreaser the engine bay did clean up nicely, I will make a new video showing that probably this summer. Thanks for the tip about the door trim, I thought to bring it to an upholstery specialist but I may be able to fix it myself. This week I changed the original spark plugs with a set of NGK ZGR5A plugs. The idle is still uneven, so I will definitely be changing the vacuum hoses and see if it improves. It's always nice to get insightful comments, thanks for watching and commenting! I am on Bimmerforums BTW, where I post updates of the car.
@beaustoioff6182
@beaustoioff6182 5 лет назад
MiniCactuar fascinating that those tires are original. Truly an old lady car. Ha ha. Those engines look nice clean. I put Bosch plugs in mine with factory spec since they are what the book recommended. It was previously running motorcraft (ford) plugs and sounded horrible. NGK should be good for that though. As long as they have a similar heat point. These are notorious for rough idling. I have done so much to mine and it seems to have calmed down. Look at another RU-vid video where they are testing a rough idle on an M30 engine, I left a comment there with some insight. My latest problem was with the anti theft “immobilizer” located in the rear driver fuse box, I unplugged one plug and it seems to run fine now. You will now this is a problem of when it runs erratically and you are in the drivers seat it will make an audiable clicking noise since the contacts in it have failed. Be careful before taking these to “specialists” a lot of the work you can do yourself. I am pretty deep into mine, but it is the gift that keeps on giving if you like to tinker with these sorts of projects. Lots of luck. Hit me up if you need the Haynes book on this and I will send you PDF.

The last year of production for the E32 was 1994, not 1992. This was the last year of production for the 735/735iL. By this era, German automakers (BMW, Mercedes, Audi) were facing serious competition from upstart Japanese luxury brands such as Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti - higher quality, lower prices, better value for their premium car dollar. The venerable M30 inline six, having been produced in some form or another since 1968, made just 211 hp and was being seriously outclassed by Japanese rivals for smoothness, power, and reliability. The M60 was already in development at this time, but was likely expedited for marketing reasons. The E32 faced a shortened model year for 1994, having been produced from January to April 1994 for the 1994 model year, as the successor model, the E38 third-generation 7-series, was ready for production. Usually car makers close down the assembly line around June to prepare for the fall model year changeover in September to October, but as prospective 7-series buyers already knew about the upcoming E38 model, were holding off buying a 7-series until the E38 was in production, hence the shortened model year for the E32.

More than likely, with a car of this vintage, one of the previous owners likely balked at the cost of replacing the ellipsoid headlights and replaced the projector headlamps with standard quad round halogen lights. I've owned my E32 750iL for 14 years and this is the first time I have seen an E32 with non-projector headlights. As this was a Canadian market car, it differs in some ways from the USA North American cars; the manual headrests, the metric speedometer (the US market speedometer had Imperial units for the outer digits, and smaller metric units inboard of the Imperial digits, as well as the numerically marked fuel gauge (US cars were marked 1/4, 1/2/ 3/4, and Full). They probably also came with the Euro-market H2 bulbs, which were superior but more expensive that the US halogen bulbs, lending further evidence that at some point, the previous owner probably replaced the headlights with the cheaper US halogen headlights with poorer light pattern. A common practice as most owners (original and second hand) are usually not able to afford to maintain these cars to original specs once the warranty expires. In USA, most buyers lease these cars, then bail out of the lease after three years both to upgrade to a newer model and to escape the expensive costs of maintaining an out of warranty premium luxury car.
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec 4 года назад
Hi Brian, for the model years 90 to 92 the BMW 5 series and 7 series in North America came with freeform headlights (non-projector lights) from the factory. They were manufactured by NAL, while the other model years had projectors manufactured by Hella or Bosch. The lights on my car were original and were never replaced and used standard 9005 and 9006 bulbs. Also during those years the fog lights were regular parabolic non-projector types; the other years had a projector in the fog lights. If you search for E32's or E34's for the years 90 to 92 on Google you'll see cars with the plain non-projector lights. One of my lights was cracked so instead of replacing it with another non-projector type I retrofitted a projector set up from an E34. They bolt right in.
