@@welldeckdiaries5610 We do. The snow isn't too bad but combine it with wind and temperatures of -20C and colder (windchill factors below -30C) and that is when I start to question my sanity for living here - lol!

You two do so enjoy your travelling life and when you are with those two lovely nutters - Colin and Shaun - it's like a Music Hall act! That bit was lovely. The pictures you showed from around the canal social network were nothing less than horrific. As an engineer (retired now) I can understand what that crushed boat means. Because 'the tube' is crushed, it means the structural integrity of the whole hull is compromised. It's about the same as the 'B' pillar on a car being bashed in. It doesn't look too serious, but in most cases the car will be a write off. I don't know about a narrowboat. I think, maybe, with a lot of cutting, jacking and welding, it can be done, but it means stripping out the entire interior for many feet on either side of the damage. My heart goes out to those people. The boat at a crazy angle against the bridge is less of a problem, just the precise application of overwhelming force, along with a lot of care. It has made me think. Is there an organisation that specialises in boat rescue in similar circumstances? CRT have a lot of suitable gear, but I think they hire in all the heavy lift kit? It's easy to forget, even a forty footer can be close to twenty tons and it isn't really a problem of lifting say, twenty-five tons; it is a problem of lifting very much weight at all, from the nearest place you can get a crane. The amount a given crane can lift, goes down exponentially as the distance. Sorry to get all technical, but I wonder how many of your viewers saw those scenes as I did? Thank you both - all four of you really - for a fascinating insight into canal life, that my mates and I only glimpse, once or twice a year as 'Enthusiastic Hire Boaters'.

Roger Whittle I love a bit of technical talk. Th e boat against the bridge later sunk. The timber barrier that it got stuck on collapsed and the force of the boat dropping made it take on water. I’ve always said Colin and Shaun are the best double act since Morecambe and Wise 😂

@@welldeckdiaries5610 That is very sad about the 'bridge boat' - I can't imagine it suffered merely 'sinking damage? Again, the problem was not so much lifting or 'easing' it, it was getting the necessary 'lifter' to actually bring that sort of capacity to bear. I once installed an MRI that weighed about six and a half tons, but which needed a 400 ton crane! That was because it had to go over a six storey building and into a light well, 85 metres from the crane centre. 'Just' 85 metres. Imagine trying to find a hard standing close enough to a stricken, twenty ton boat, that would support a 400 ton crane? As for Colin and Shaun - cue 'Bring Me Sunshine' and wobble Shaun's glasses!

Yes, a full size automatic washing machine, its just that we couldn't get to a water point so we were rationing water which is why we went to the laundrette
