Best 7 things you can do with this car are 1: fit a larger inter cooler for the supercharger, 2: Split the cooling system, 3: Upgrade the intercooler pump, 4: Fit a 77mm clutched pulley, 5: Fit 550cc injectors, 6: Get a tune (Eurocharged, VRP, German Muscle etc etc), 7: 1 step colder plugs. That will give you the best price to performance ratio - assuming you do the work yourself you'd be into it for about $2,000 to $2,500. I went a little further with short headers and a 92mm throttle body but really the cost of those and having them fitted was not worth the gain. Oh and get the supercharger serviced as well. Great fucking car.
Been looking for one these for the longest. Now I own a 2005 at 17 years old it’s running around 600hp on stage 3 kleeman tune, long tube headers, vrp heat exchanger and pump, performance cam and some other mods. In love with it.
I feel so lucky to finally purchase a 2004 after researching for over 8 years. I can't wait to look into the smaller pulley. Everything else, was done that you mentioned for mine when I purchased last June.
You got a keeper. I almost made my friend in his Model Y performance deaf. He was beside me when we did a 1-2-3! Rolling at 40mph, his window down and he got FULL exhaust note. It surprised him, he thought for sure he'd beat me, instead he lost his confidence and hearing in his left ear.
@@CruisingTheLand I got A 2004 E55 AMG (Brilliant Silver Metallic) with 89,000 mile. No mods yet.....lol. It is currently in mint condition. It was maintained at MB dealer only. I paid $11,200 for it.
@@ethanbrown9985 i got the car from north carolina at blue book value. Its just finding the right seller ,who will sell the car at KBB VALUE. Alot of people are over pricing the cars. You can find really great w211 E55 AMG in great condition for under $11k-14k
Nice I have a 05 with lower 180 pulley mid length headers eurocaharge split cooling upgraded pump 550 injectors loop fuel rail 3in exhaust with the ram air ducks i love my car super fast and magnaflow mufflers... not to many cars can out run it... best bang for the buck bought mine in 2011 for 20000 white with blue interior 💙
I would start with supporting mods mainly cooling mods so the car doesn’t over heat. These mods are great for power but set up like this 2-3 pulls in and your supercharger will disengage due to a safety feature and the car will be heat soaked and slow
Heat exchange mod and the car will never over heat or get too hot, it's a great mod, u could be racing all day and it will still perform at 100% The heat exchange is a major mod to do! 👍👍
This guys definitely not making 600hp neither with just a tune headers and pulley. 469 crank hp. Car prolly makes 510-530 wheel hp. Factory blower won’t get you to 600hp nor will the injectors
I am original owner, always garaged. The clear coat from Mercedes in 2004 was 3x stronger than normal clear and was put on certain models E55 included.
Congrats on owning your E55 for all of these years. That body style is timeless because it still looks modern. That car is probably the best bang for the buck as far as power and luxury.
Still have it! Its a keeper. At current market prices, I wouldnt sell, besides, where else will I get 600HP and sounding like this beast! Sure, a Tesla will beat me 0-60 barely, but I will be providing all the sound in the race, otherwise it would just be a boring- Whish, Whissshhh....
Awesome car man I love the W211 model in general and of course the E55 is the best. Also the build quality is amazing these cars age very well. Fun fact, this is also the same engine in the SLR McLaren supercar which produces well over 600hp stock.
It was that perfect deep growl when you push down on the gas. I want this car so bad I promised myself when I graduate college and land myself a good job this baby is all mine!!
The Header made a huge difference on the sound from stock. Its a double reward of HP and sound. Honestly, the sound is intoxicating and you can never get enough.
Love those wheels. I have a mint 2003 Desert Silver E55. 80K miles. Recently took it in for a slight rear main oil leak. New motor mounts also. With tranny and exhaust out for the rear main repair, one of my exhaust manifolds was rusted and the flange portion completely snapped off! I figured might as well put long tube headers on given the cost of new manifolds. Shop said they wouldn’t charge for labor since everything was already out for the rear main repair. Also did a Kleeman lower crank pulley. They had a NOS in the shop. Kleeman apparently doesn’t make this pulley anymore. Kleeman ECU flash. Went with the lower pulley because the upper pulleys tend to come apart and break. And the fixed one piece upper pulleys may cause some cooling issues since blower always spinning. Car is fast AF
@@CruisingTheLand you know, honestly, the car really doesn’t sound all that different with the headers surprisingly. I have a 70K mile triple black 2001 Camaro SS vert 6 speed. One of the cats went bad so I replaced everything with Texas Speed long tubes. Stock muffler and stock dual dual tips. Now THAT car sounds insane with just the addition of the headers. Sounds like a NASCAR stocker. Only other mod is 4.11 rear. Much better drivability. The 6 speed was worthless for in town driving with the stock 2.73. My other AMG is a stock 03 SL55. Also have a 1990 ZR1 Vette. Also another sort of Benz. 2005 Crossfire Vert.
Clean car. I'm up in NorCal and have the 04 SL55, same upgrades with some added cooling, but not the headers. I can't fit long tube headers in the SL and mid-length don't seem to be worth the money for the added power. Deleted the resonators out of the back so it opens up the sound to just the right roar, without being obnoxious. I've got the dark blue over light gray, same LM6 wheels that I had powder coated just a single shade darker. They were a bit too bright with the blue paint (back opal).
Beautiful E55! I got a great deal on a nearly identical 2005 (stock wheels) with just at 100k miles and I did the i/c pump, split cooler and secondary inter cooler upgrade and a 76mm clutched pulley and purchased the tune and colder plugs from VRP and it really woke it up and I have not noticed any difference in drivability or mileage. I don’t care for the engagement jerk at low speeds so when I do the headers and Killer Chiller I’m going to a fixed pulley (al la the E55 Alex of LegitStreetCars built) and I’m doing a trans fluid flush and conductor plate this month and that will take care of the last of the maintenance items list. I’m looking for headers and I think I am going with the Top Speed Pro 1 catted (smog state) and do Black Series mounts and flex discs ‘while I’m in there’. I went a little crazy on FCP Euro and bought every single suspension part they sell just sitting on a shelf waiting for a nice day. I have replaced a few little clips and switches but these cars are rock-simple mechanically and if you get a few special tools and a scanner (icarsoft makes several affordable models) there is very little you can’t do yourself on these cars. If you just want a V8, you can get an E500 this era super cheap that can be made to sound great and can even be found in 4Matic all wheel drive. These are great cars and as long as you do your due diligence on finding a well cared for example you will never be sorry you own one! I would get in mine and drive it just about anywhere without hesitation. They are very reliable and fit and materials all hold up very well, even in high mileage examples and it is not unheard of for owners to get 400k to 500k miles just doing regular maintenance before anything major (outside of some oil leaks that arise) has to be rebuilt or replaced in these cars. I’m actually looking for an E350 4Matic W211 for my teenage son since we know how to work on them now and have some spare parts accumulating in the garage, lol. Enjoy your AMG, it looks and sounds great!
I want to maintain that sleeper identity on my 04 E55, so I'm not sure about the headers and increasing the growl from the exhaust, but I will definitely be upgrading the supercharger pulley.
I'm doing the 7 step program as stated by another viewer. Then will put electric cutouts before my stock back boxes so I can keep the sound stock unless I don't.
Picked up an 05 E55 recently. I think I got the best deal of all time. He listed it for $8K I only had $6K. All I said to him was “will you take 6 for it?” He said yes. I’m 2nd owner, pristine interior/exterior, 89,000 miles, clean title. Broken air suspension, I put BC Racing coil overs on it. So for six grand I picked up a 500 HP supercharged, hand built German V8 Mercedes-Benz AMG with quad pipes, racing suspension, heated cooled massaging front seats panoramic sunroof, Harmon Kardon surround sound stereo, power controls on everything, and rear wheel drive German muscle car monster. It’s black & chrome. (stock)
@@CruisingTheLand I’m only 21 so all of my friends haven’t had much opportunity to experience fast cars as there young like me. We’re from small town in Michigan. Had to drive to Chicago to pick it up. Every one of my friends love the Benz, want to drive it, and love the torque. I love it more tho. I drive more aggressively alone than with friends
@@CruisingTheLand good to know. Usually go in sport mode which is first gear by default. Why would 2nd be better? Because it’s a long continuous gear & you’ll be doing 60+MPH by the time you hit the redline?
Yes, I am willing to bet the rumble is either going straight pipe or removing the resonator. I left my resonator on. I have heard it without the resonator, and it it too loud and loses that refined sound. But some like it like that.
@@danielfaatz5168 do your research on the long headers. I kept my resonator too. Talk to Brandon at Kleeman. He will explain why with the supercharger, the short header is the way to go. All about the firing order and the supercharger ramming air down fast. Long head is in vain, short maximizes with this engine setup.
Cruising The Land good, I want to keep the cats also, since Oregon has strict emission standards...I might modify it a bit, give it a better intercooler and a nice euro charged tune
E55 - Never gets old. Because of Alex @ legitstreetcar, we picked one up about 2 years ago with 140l miles. • Did you install a larger heat exchanger and updated pump? • Which tune are you running? I've been on the mbworld forum reading as much as possible. Got a STAR laptop from Shardul. It's been very helpful in troubleshooting. Saved a bunch of money so far. Now waiting for SBC counter to kick in and leave me stranded. Just thinking about taking it to Stealership 😱😱😱. So far, it's got an pulley scatteshield, 83.7 UDP pulley (gonna have to look into getting a smaller one), PLM (XL) heat exchanger, stage 2 tune from Tony @ raceiq. Now its got pretty bad exhaust leak. Been reading LTH are the way to go but will look into mid-length. Thanks for sharing.
The sbs has a counter. After I had a.new SBS put in, I saw on RU-vid that you can get a $29 plug in for the obdII port and rest the counter! But a year later, Mercedes warranties the SBS ( 25 year warranty which takes me to 2029) and they refunded me $1700 for the repair. Never seen a manufacturer do that on a 15 yr or car! So after 2029, I will just buy the reset counter. Over built braking system, but very advanced. In the rain, it holds the pads a little closer to save milliseconds on braking. Also different braking in corners to follow steering better etc. Quite amazing when you research the SBS system.
In the tune, I got it from.Kleeman after the headers were put in. It makes sure the O2 sensors read properly and get the CEL off. Passed smog afterwards.😀 Headers $650, tune $150 by sending in your ecu (not hard to do)
My pulley is 77mm. I didn't want to go more than 600hp because it opens the rabbit hole to more upgrades, cooling system etc... i just want to have the power when needed, beat anything that challenges, and this pretty much does it. E55 engine was build to handle 800 torque and a ton of HP, but cooling becomes the issue. Good for now... but ... maybe...??? Also have a 996TT that I will post a video soon, that is tuned, 200 cell exhaust, tastefully lowered etc...the other sports car that is easily tuned, before purchase built then to no longer be tinkered with.
I just purchased a 05 , perfect car with all cooling mods no cats and that growl is just the perfect car song , looking for another , as I believe they are a Bargain @ 23 k ish for an immaculate car , they can only go up in value in the days to come .600 ponies + .
Great video and beautiful car!! you're correct about this AMG model, it will in time when they become a little more hard to find, will appreciate in value. Not only because they're reliable also because they're easy to work on once you get passed the point of being scared of the north star badge on the grill, even with basic mechanical tools and knowledge. I bought mine a year ago with 65Kmi on it from the original owner haven't yet gotten to work on the performance upgrades but looking forward to those tasteful like OEM mods you did, the car sounds amazing and 600HP its more than any good driver could ever need. As is stock this beast pulls you back on the sit when you hit the gas......
Very nice presentation man...I hav an 03 all stock...u hit everything on the head in the hp and reliably department...I couldn't agree more...beautiful job to the car as well, u hav me second guessing myself now...😉
I was talking with someone yesterday about the header upgrade, and I said... the extra HP is great... but its the sound it releases and opens up the AMG's lungs... just sounds incredible and is unique, as no other car hits this Baratone note. Makes me feel like the day I first got the car... like a new car all over again.
You should talk to Kleeman in Colorado. Their tech can give you the run down of their header a.d why to avoid the long header. He is very detailed about how the supercharger works in conjunction with headers and maximum flow. You also have a Porsche? I have a tuned 996TT cab pushing about 550hp.
The major thing I have had were: Gas tank leak 2017, Mercedes warrantied (bc happened on alot of them under the rear seat where it feeds out.) ABS suicide counter. Had work done, then Mercedes added a 25yr warranty in the SBC ABS system and they reimbursed me. ALL MODELS covered by that warranty. I had to change both front air suspension struts. Pain bc once they go, you can't turn car. Company in San Diego refurbished them and gives lifetime warranty. $450 each and not too difficult to install yourself. Then supercharger pulley and magnet replaced. The stealership charges big bucks for repairs. For instance my supercharger, they wanted $5k! I uograded pulley as mentioned in video $550. Plus magnet $220. Or 1 air strut in front is about 2-2.5k, I did for $450. Other than that the simple stuff..
Cruising The Land that is actually nice to hear because I was worried that it would break often, and , turns out, it doesn’t bereaved that often, I might do a hydraulic suspension system delete, and just get coil overs which would add to the reliability of the beautiful e55
@@danielfaatz5168 well, the air suspension is plush and a nice ride... why replace it when the front strut is only $450 and labor $0 as a DIY. Then you have life time warranty? Mine went out at about 75k. The system sits just right, car looks like its lowered on my 19s or 20s... But rear is dipping when car sits 7 days+. Airs back up when cranked over.
I'm sorry those mods do not give you over 600 hp. You'll dyno @ 440 - 450 whp which is about 520 at the crank. Legit Street Cars E55 has more mods and dyno's at 460 whp
yes, not at the wheel. wasn't talking at the wheel. No plans to Dyno... its just eay faster than stock. Why doesn't Mercedes, Porsche etc... put WHP in their specs?
E55 owner here. Sorry bud, you’re hyping things up for people that don’t know these cars. They can sound great (yours does) and you *can bolt on solid power. Fact is, you have no idea what kind of gains your car has. Can’t just add VRP and Kleemann’s advertised HP gains, add another 25hp just cuz and advertise your car as 600hp. Ex. - I have a strong running 04, 168/84 pulley combo, 82mm TB, ceramic coated EC mid headers, 3” no cats, xpipe, res delete, stock mufflers. 010 Bosch intercooler pump, big HX, went 495hp/540ft lbs on a mustang dyno. 540/600 on a dyno jet.
lol! Uhhh Tips? Tips is what you bought at Autozone to make your E320 attempt to look like an E55. "Back Boxes" is thr term for the entire Muffler and exhaust tips, which mine are from a c63. Go Dip your Autozone tips to make them blue and put some whistles in them so you will make fake turbo noises. LMAO
Bullet proof engine that only a 3 dollar oring on the pick up tube that will harden and cause loss of oil pressure. Oil pressure gauge mod would be the first thing I do lol
Well, there are lots for sale for a great deal. The engines last so don't be too concerned about a 125k mile E55. You have a 25yr warranty on the SBS braking system, and most things that can go are relatively inexpensive to fix (if you avoid the stealership)
This car is what made me not like cars for a long time. This car was very good and new cars in the progression after it was very miniscule in my opinion
For the record, the engine makes the same HP stock (493) across the product line. It was a marketing gimmick b/c they didn't want the SL to have the same HP as an E class.
Not marketing, E55 was indeed detuned. Smaller air intake, smaller throttle body as well as another poster said. Having said that, these are easy to overcome.
Cruising The Land it has renntech short tube headers, magnaflow exhaust with stock quad tips, upgraded crank pullly kit, euro tech break calipers . Not sure the measurement for the new pully
Excellent video and you have provoked me to seek out and modify that very car. Will you please write in the video details, specifically the part brand/ name you added so a person can mirror your modifications? Ty
Your car is best sounding e55 bro. Can you pls send me the list of what yo8 changed again. So the headers, the belt , the back resonators with the c63 one s, what else thx
The prices in an E55 are crazy low... for $ for horsepower!?! Best... not just HP, but reliable HP good for 250k, 300k, 400k! And imcredible intoxicating sound. A must saloon car.
I only own my E55 after finding Alex’s channel late one night when I was looking for a unique daily driver. After seeing his cars and mods he did, I was hooked and found one a week later very close to him in Chicago. He gets blamed when I spend money for mods on my car A LOT! "But honey, Alex made me do it!"
This car makes only sense on German Autobahn 🤪👍 So you can ride down 750 km with up to 200 mph. When this tune-up is solid... In U.S. you got speed limits, not so funny.
No no heat soaking problems ? i have a 04 e55 and i am looking to get smaller pully like yours and i realized you didnt mention anything about heat soaking which happens even in fully stock motors.
no way you get 60 horse power just from headers and tune. correct me if im wrong but tune really only clears check engine light from coming on since you delete cats
60hp at the crank, so not real world power. But yea look at the stock exhaust manifold VS long tubes. It's ridiculous. The exhaust of these older amg is very restrictive. That, AND it's the same motor and setup as the other 55k's which made 493 hp (crank) stock. So a tune can easily get you that 20hp, and likely more. Also breathing WAY easier, yea 60 crank horsepower is very achievable
Hey buddy the stock pulley is a 91mm not an 83mm. You should dyno the car so you have a better idea of what your making. You could be surprised how much you could be losing from the IATs.
Well, after the mods, the butt dyno says this thing rips... Remember, stock.HP.is not WHP either. Besides, the power is great, but the sound is intoxicating.
493 minus the possible 30 percent lose through drive train is roughly 375 left making it to the wheels with all these mods I'd say your jow at a comfortable 500 wheel horses which is nothinv to sneeze at in today's day and age in a mercendes benz thats 15 plus years old
Definitely not getting 600hp from just a pully and headers and tune. The engine makes 469hp at the crank. Not the rear tire. Headers, tune, catless exhaust pulley will only make 500-520wheel hp. If you want over 550 the stock blower must go.
who said at the wheel? It takes the 469hp stock to right about 600hp.. at the crank. People understand that better than this Title: E55 is now 469 at the wheels and not at the crank
@@CruisingTheLand i specifically stated (at crank) just to see if you would try to reply to that statement. Your video says how to upgrade your car to 600hp. In reality it should be (how to make 500hp in your e55. Just click bait, and unicorn dreams.
@@justinwaters-w8e Sure.. Pulley, headers give 31hp!! LMAO. Bro you are on the wrong video, I think you are looking for Honda SI tunes. I should post a video of my E55 smoking my friends dual motor performace model Y (both rolling start of course at 20mpg)
Hey, I'm thinking about buying an e55 amg with 177k kilometers. The seller put a lot of work into the engine, and it's listed for $17k. Do you think that's worth it?
well, if you found one for 12k, you'd likely have to put alot of baselining $$$..So if he has receipts for alot of work and parts, then yes.. because it saves you from having to pay it, and the E55s will be recognized one day as a bullet proof monster, and values will go up.
I’m looking to buying one soon but the seller who has the one I want wants $16,000 with 146k miles, is that a good price or should I talk him down to $12,000 at least ? Let me know please… I don’t know much about these so I don’t wanna over pay
Always talk a price doen to your best value. A higher price is worth it if they have done extensive maintenance.. Motor mounts, SBC brake warranty, air suspension, etc... means less repairs for you.
How did u do this without changing cooling? Isn't that a problem? VRP 600hp kit includes cooling rn and the question is if u need it or if it's doing just fine without it? Nice car man.
Sounds so good. How’s it going with it..are you still totally stoked on the pulley and headers. I just picked up my super clean 06 e55 with 68,000 I’m super stoked. Man I can’t find kleemans near that price...you scored. Let me know if there’s anything you would do differently. Thank you so much for your great support !
@@CruisingTheLand Yeah I’ve yet to see what this baby can do. Super stoked. We scored it from an estate. It’s mint. I tossed everything out of the garage... now it’s for the car. And when you turn the key off.. is there a fan that kicks on ever? I’m just being a little paranoid but Better safe than..
Nice man, I have a 2006 E55 with 63k on it. Planning on doing the 76-77mm pulley, short tube headers and tune. Will probably go with Victory Road Performance, what do you think?
Thats exactly my set up. VRP pulley and belt, and Kleeman Short Headers and Tune. 550 and 650 respectively and 150 for the tune by Kleeman when buying their headers.
likely about 3.6 But for me, its more about the symphonic sound that exits this monster engine. I rarely crank my tunes, I prefer to crack the 2 rear windows and listen to the intoxicating sound... like no other!
These are Lorinzer wheels knockoffs, which is better because they are not 3 piece. People think 3 piece are great and awesome... but they are costly to maintain because they will fail on the internal bead, leak, and you have to get it resealed. I have a set of 20" asantis that go on this E55, they are beautiful, but waiting for rebeading and new rear drum pieces that are bent... take it from me, stay away from 3 piece!
@@brianhanguyen 469, and that's at the crank, not the wheels. He MIGHT be making 600 at the crank. But that means nothing in actual performance until you count in drive train losses which is what you actually feel
@@tqjunky5576 as someone who has meticulously worked on several C55s including my own, I can assure the only way to properly make 600hp is with forced induction.
