EA Sport WRC Review - The Final Verdict 

Stutter on ANY racing game is unacceptable and especially on a high end PC, so I refunded the game after an hour on steam. Just wait 6 months, when it’s half price and hopefully fixed!

I’ve never played rally games before so I got this from EA at Pro, and I’m having a blast! It’s hard but once I understood the co driver it got easier. Lots of fun and looks great

It's a great game. I see the hate all over the place regarding it - it's ridiculous, and i almost didn't pick up the game because of it. Today, no game is released as a finished product - i guess as these games become bigger with more complex engines, it will take more time to optimize and polish. I do not like this and games should get a few more months before dropping. Unless they don't mind low review scores and it hindering the games sales...

Rally 2.0 was a pain to keep on the narrow path especially with faster cars.

The game is actually ok. I don’t think it was quite ready yet, and has some visual, and frame rate problems. Some of the visuals look fantastic, and some look janky. But the ideas are good. I’ve spent hundreds if not thousands of hours in DR2.0, and DR. I think that after time and patches it will be amazing. We know that codemaster is capable of making an amazing game. I just feel like the higher ups put too much pressure on the Devs to get games out the door, which leaves us with glitchy products. I think this title could have used more time in the oven

This game got me to reinstall Generations and Dirt Rally 2. Both are superior rally games. Watch the comparison between Generations tracks and these, this looks like a PS4 game next to Generations. Even next to DR2 this looks worse. The weather effects are laughable, it freezes mid rally, has screen tearing, the seasonal championship is way worse than Generations, it lacks rally cross, and it doesn't even have the daily challenges. You can't buy cars outside of the championship. It's just a massive step back in every metric. 6/10 is generous.

If they fix the major stuttering - guarantee this is not 60 FPS on consoles - fix menus - actually add liveries - Retouch a little bit of the physics. This could easily be an 8 out of 10

Stuck with DR2. Better in every respect. No stuttering and proper telemetry for bass shakers etc. This is a typical EA balls up

This game feels like "Ready or Not" A spiritual successor to a cult classic in swat 4, and since the cult classic is like 20 years old at this point any kind of triple A successor feels amazing. All that being said, no one can argue its not the clear cut best rally game right now and will probably end up holding the crown for years and years to come as patches and improvements come. Dirt 2 wasnt holding the crown for no reason lol

People who say this game ain't good got to remember it the first version of the game from ea version

Minor issues? On the Xbox there is screen tearing and dropped fps several times during all courses. Come on.

EA SPORTS WRC overall looked great despite being a little downgrade to Dirt Rally 1 and 2. The sense of speed in EA SPORTS WRC maybe missing completely but the amount of content and gameplay really made up everything on it.

We will have any new patches/updates soon? The game definietly needs to be fix on consoles

They were insane to launch this game with such severe stuttering. No one will stick around long term if that isnt 100% ironed out. Its even worse that the visuals are 10 years outdated in terms of foliage and other environmental details and it still runs like this. AND the color pallette is always washed out/plain

Some are saying don't buy because it will be on game pass in a few months. What do you think, are they right?

Ok pros & cons Pros •Sense of speed is great! Especially with wheel •lots to do •plenty of stages that are great! •simplified tuning •ffb is amazing Cons •stutter is a real nuisance, always at same spots, some being very at key points in stages •some visuals look so lame (water splash, human models) •builder cup is confusing

I'm a big dirt fan, and people (codemasters) behind making ea sport wrc this is a must buy for me.

Overall the game is great, BUT there is a major bug with the AI stage times, they randomly lose over 2 minutes on a stage making all of the single player content pretty much useless. Hopefully they will address this in a patch.

As a true rally gamer i love it. It sucks that it needs patches to be complete but overall i love it. And whoever was racing in this video is horrible btw lol

I would expect this being release only on next gen console it would look better graphics wise

I know people say graphics isn't everything, but for a game that is supposed to simulate real world rally, I am never fully immersed in the game because of how poor the visuals are in 2023. Coming from gran turismo, this is like playing a ps3 game.

I'm a casual - I've played many a racing game in my day, but not so much Rally. So this is more or less my first rally game. I'm generally enjoying it. I play on PS5 with a controller. Career mode in Junior WRC Been watching a lot of vids, and reading the comments and the reaction seems to be all over the place. The game really seems to touch (or trigger) people in different ways. What I found interesting is that in the video above, he said "pavement can feel comforting" ... I have the extreme opposite reaction! For me, Snow and Gravel feel fine, pavement feels like *ice* and I seem to have very little control. I find myself being very tentative on pavement. The point of this is that I think people really need to try this one for themselves to see how it feels to them - and not so much rely on others. If you have any passing interest in rally, I say give it a go. But maybe wait for a sale, try on gamepass, whatever. But less so than most games ... I wouldn't base your buying decision based on anyone's reaction.

As soon as I saw the driving model is like Dirt Rally I was out on this one. I was hoping for the simcade style of Dirt 4 :(

Screw dirt rally. This game is much better. Finally we can control a game with the controller again. Codemasters are the masters. U done it Guys. Love this grip. But please make multiplayer offline Also. Cause not all my friends have a gamer pc.

I don't understand the hate for this game tbh because I actually enjoyed the game. Yes it's not perfect with the performance and frame rate issues but it's fun and enjoyable to drive and that's the most important thing

Still not patched on Xbox Screen tear Frame drops Every stage Just before the end there’s a massive freeze. Surerky that should have been QC ? Yes there’s more cars and Tracks than dirt 2.0 But it’s no where near as fluid Needs patched asap

You guys are going too easy… EA will eventually think “ah, the game is great see? We don’t have to fix anything, let’s just add some loot boxes” The game is great, but it requires a lot of fixing. Like stuttering, screen tearing, plants and off-road scenery textures, absolutely stupid AI (that goes -01sec on one section, the next one you’re +36sec) … for me another important thing is absolutely unemotional and badly timed driver calls. Like 5 left -> Slight right over crest -> acute hairpin right. She says that like it’s a 6 right and the timing is too late (with Earliest calls settings). But this game has a great potential nevertheless. We just need to be a little bit more critical so EA will pull their heads out of their arses.

@GamingBolt it looks worse than a previous incarnation on lesser hardware on a previous generation. It would had been normal to AT LEAST have the same visual quality. Dirt Rally 2.0 to Dirt Rally was even a large graphical step forward in the same generation. This is a game with a five year development cycle on new, much improved hardware and it looks inferior in many ways. Take for instance the implementation of RAIN! FFS it is 2023! Kileton suddenly had terrible rain in Generations and puddles like it was a N64 but EA/Codemasters doesn’t do much better with rain. Just compare it to 6 year old Dirt 2.0 or the ten year old Driveclub and you know what I mean. What bothers me even more is that I find the track layouts uninspiring, barren, boring and generic. For instance Monte Carlo looks a.i. generated like it is done with the trackbuilder in Dirt4. The uphill righthand corners keep repeating themselves in exactly the same way. It is like driving the same road for 17 km’s. Trackside details, elevation (like the Turkey track in Kileton’s efforts) etc. are all substantially lesser implemented than in Generations and even Codemasters’ own Dirt Rally 2.0. And then the quickplay option. WTF @Codemasters ?! Why can’t I simply play a stage with the weather, time and in the season I prefer?!? The driving is great, absolutely, but that is what we expect from Codemasters with about 30 years of experience with racing games. This is simply rushed out too early with the stutter, terrible screentearing (on PS5) and lack of graphical fidelity. Maybe next year we get the version we were supposed to have played now. But it’s EA so it propably takes 2 years or more. With Kileton’s relatively small budget they made significant improvements over the years. Especially from WRC8 - 10. Codemasters delivered a slightly better handling (where DR2.0 was already perfect!) with a graphical downgrade which to me is highly dissapointing.

Guys the game is great honestly if you use exterior view put shake camera to 0% and do exterior camera pov view to 35% much more like dirt 2 if you use a controller use the sticks to accelerate and brake and use back buttons as gear up and gear down if it feels washed out just increase the tv colour higher job done am loving it now just completed my first season now onto 2nd season so much to do!

The last wrc was stuttering and tearing the same. Wonder if they ever fixed it?

You guys seriously need to revise your ranking scale. Make it like to 100 or something. 8 has become too much of a confortable zone for your reviews. We all know it's gonna be 8 before we even start watching.

Dirt 2.0. still the King.

PS5 version is a piece of garbage. 12 out of 15 stages the car just sits at the starting line revving the engine and not moving. The few stages that actually worked if you left the track and reset back onto the track it did the same thing and the car wouldn't move. The graphics are pretty janky as well. I'm using a Fanatec Gran Turismo DD pro with no problems on any game except this

I'm sorry, but I cannot watch a review for a simulation rally game when the reviewer is playing in 3rd person.

It’s obviously not gonna be as good as dirt rally 2.0. They had more time to develop plus it’s had years to progress while being out. It had loads of problems in release and got better with time. Idk why people call a game trash on release day. Give it time to progress. It has a lot of potential and opens up to more players. Cross play and more assist is gonna bring more players in. Which is great for the community. Not to mention it has a career mode, something I have personally missed in racing games.

it's a massive DOWNGRADE from Dirt Rally 2.0.... who are you kidding saying it's not? WRC scenery is sparse as heck, little sense of speed, looks very washed out, and lacks destruction physics... for basic things like mud banks or snow mounds.... let alone barb wire fencing that its like hitting a 3ft thick wall.... it's terrible. the only things they got right is the handling and force feedback and the potholes and feeback for the road stuff.... but everything else?? very lacking.... stick to DR2 or WRC generations. I was testing it on a 4090 rig, so its never gonna look better, so god help the folk that cant ultra it out, cos on low and lowest levels it looks like a 2008 game. As for the multiplayer.... lack of Rallycross and lack of ghost cars showing other live players near you on the main rally modes is lame.

my last racing game was colin mcrae rally 04. i think this game is nice, it feels like you are all complaining about the graphics, have you ever tried to play zelda on n64? the framerate was like 15fps, still game was great. ... this generation 😒

Another screw up by EA grr - Dirt 2.0 is much better and why why why did they move away from a custom inhouse perfect game engine for unreal ! This wouldn't have happened if CodeMasters hadn't sold out to EA ! grrr

This is the worst rally game ever made! TERRIBLE performance, lots of stutters. I tried to run here in my rig and I got very disappointed with the performance, hope they fix the game ASAP. Specs: Ryzen 7 5700X RTX 3080 16GB RAM DDR4.
