Im 42 and from fifa 18 to 22 i spent a fortune... i now have a daughter and i enjoy F1 23 and Forza instead as the gameplay and the rip off that is FUT hit home when i spent 12k points on 4 or 5 packs and didnt get shit. Thats 72 quid. I realised i couldve bought my daughter some lovely stuff. Hell i could've had a decent night out... no more EA

It's a real shame, because me being a big FIFA/EAFC player still to this day, it's sad to see this go so far downhill, I used to spend a bit of money but I found out it wasn't worth it in the end, and since then I've been grinding the game still, yeah it's not gonna be easy for me to get better players because I'm doing the cheapest and free way, but it's like EA are punishing us for not giving them what they what... Ultimate team if it was up to me: -Not Ultimate Team anymore but "Online Career" -No different cards for the same player anymore, each player has 1 standard card. -Players can improve and regress over time. -Career mode like features (from the usual career and borrowed from FM) such as scouting, international market, financials and more. -Amount of in-game cards lowers as player ratings go up, top cards are very rare. -Inclusion of academy players and regens, 1 fifa cycle is 6 years in online career to keep things fresh. -League system that promotes/relegates you on a weekly basis. -Weekly Open Cups (monday to friday) with big rewards. -Champions Cup in the weekends, equiavalent to weekend league. Qualification based on league performance (for example: top 50% from league 1, top 40% from league 2, top 30% from league 3, etc.) and Open Cup performance. I'm sure there is a lot wrong with this system but atleast it tries to be somewhat realistic and really feels like you're competing with other players.

I dont spend a penny on this game cause i find it more rewardning packing a Player you grinded for than just spending Money on packs

I remember i played during Christmas FIFA14 and FIFA 19 ( of course no ultimate team). And honestly, even in those games who were supposed to be worse since they are 5, respectively 10 years old, but i barely esperienced any bugs and everything seemed much more real to the real life football than whatever you can do in FC24

It's such a shame what happened to fifa, I'm the same age as you and up until this fifa I basically bought and played them every year since way before UT. Even though I still caved and bought the last few up to EAFC for me the magic of fifa and UT and having special cards etc died after fifa 18/19, I regularly see people online defend some of the games after that but honestly those people clearly didn't play UT in its prime, 18 and 19 weren't great at the time but what I would give to go back to those even compared to the current game. And fifa 14-17 was just some of the most fun i've ever had in a sports game, you rarely saw legends and almost never packed them, same with with TOTY etc the cards were crazy good and OP but because they were so rare to see. People built and used sweaty gold teams for much of the year and would then complement it with some informs from a pack opening at some point. FUT champs also killed it for me personally because the game became more of a sweaty grind and less about the gameplay. On paper the rewards from FUT champs are so much better so there is actually less grind, but that's the thing it made people play to get packs, whereas on the old relegation and promotion divisions system you got a chunk of coins you could use to upgrade one position heavily and people played it to play the game itself, not for any sort of pack or reward. What I would give to go back to that honestly.

I used to love FIFA from 2012-2017. Once I graduated high school in 2017 I pretty stopped all together. I think it was because I went from a kid playing alongside my friends which was fun even if the game was bad, to and adult with a job and college playing on my own. It’s not worth putting my money into a game I don’t enjoy by myself.

1) FUT died when you were unable to trade player cards with a friend/user. As you mentioned, the football is second while the packs are the core. 2) After TOTY started this year and that random glitch happened, the game plays strange, as if that glitch error is still bugging the game more than it already had been. 3) I dread Champions with the squad that I have. The game has granted me qualification automatically a few times too but I rarely play it. When I do, I aim to qualify then go for 6 wins and call it quits, and I barely get there at times. Rivals can be a good mix. I focus on Squad Battles now for evolutions (which is possibly the best addition of the game so far addition along with the 4 minute halves) I sometimes get the Xbox out and get on FIFA 07. A true gem.

As someone who has played both D2 and FC24 I can confirm Cross was spot on and you are too. The only problem is its way too tempting to just buy a pack and save your time grinding for fouder

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this apt video. I have been playing FIFA since FIFA 98. As time went by, it stopped being a football game and instead became a poker game - those who P2W have the best cards. Especially this year, the game has actually had a toll on my mental state - I find myself becoming agitated very quickly for instance. The fun has completely been taken out. Playing in FIFA 98’s indoor stadium felt realer than the crass gameplay that is FC 24.

Genuinely, without the evolution system I wouldn’t have bothered to buy this game like I have since FIFA 16 but personally I don’t play champs because I know the power curve and gameplay is shite compared to just rivals otherwise I couldn’t care less about ultimate team. Great vid once again bro

It's so sad that EA leaned into milking this cash cow as hard as they have. I used to be a big Pro Clubs player. I loved the fact that you could get 11v11 matches that ran SMOOTH, with in-game audio chat for all. But the it felt like with each evolution of Pro Clubs (which only really happened every 5 years or so), it got worse and worse and worse. What's funny is that I played MLB The Show a few years ago and found it rather fun, then eventually tried their Diamond Dynasty mode, which is their version of Ultimate Team. And HOLY CRAP it was *fun*. The game only has one type of currency, and it actually says in the in-game store "You get Stubs from just playing the game, but if you want to give us money for more, we won't stop you." There's a reward for having all the players on the 40-man roster for each of the 30 teams, and it's a beast of a player usually. That's 1200 of the ~1600 non-special cards (there are free-agent cards). And I got it. Because the game gives you Stubs and packs and post-game rewards and all this. And how much did I spend on it? NOTHING. I paid $60 for the game and THAT'S IT. And without dropping an additional dollar on Stubs OR playing any online multiplayer, I was able to get a top-tier endgame-level collection of players... and i STILL had challenges left if I wanted to try them. There's a reason that I have said for years that Sony Santa Monica took The Show and figured out how to do Ultimate Team RIGHT. They still make a bunch of money, but they don't wring it out of you and bleed you dry. And I appreciate that.

I’ve been a div 1 rivals and 15-18 win champs player for the last 3 years with a no money spent RTG. This year it is near impossible to compete unless you pay to win, way worse than before. They literally lowered the skill gap to let casuals compete with better players by just buying mbappe and shit after spending hundreds on packs. Even the fifa RU-vidrs I watch who are usually ea simps have called out the lowering of the skill gap . Boras who is one of the 0.01 % fifa players in the world losses to average players on his stream because they have god squads and just park the bus and counter attack with mbappe lol I just gave up last week because I refuse to spend a cent on it and my drogba might as well be a bronze compared to my opponents mbappes

this microtransaction progression happened over time and its been allowed by the community. nobody with influence stood up and made EA stop their bullshit. I feel like this community is just broken and EA were allowed to capitalise.

I was playing fifa while listening to this vid. Its wild whats been normalized. I refuse to ever buy packs and i have to use a lot of restraint to save my coins and not get suckered. I am lucky i can do that but many people are manipulated by EA into irresponsible spending. Even if you try and trade this year you cant, because multiple times this cycle has rereleased high value cards that people had invested in just to tank their value so people lose coins. The company is completely machavellian.

Personally, I never, ever touch Ultimate Team (always been a Career Mode player through and through) but from what I’ve seen with the whole Fifa/FC Points practice and the reality that people have suffered unnecessarily and the fact that EA always ignore the reality just sickens me. I play ultimate team. And i realised i was addicted to it. Playing it every free time I had to complete objectives. I started playing career and enjoyed the game again and didn't see it as a grind. Though i do find it drawing me back in with new card types

This is one of the greatest videos showing the sad reality of where this game has ended up. Thank you for speaking out and bringing up these issues. Are you still playing with your Burnley team? I did themed teams a few years ago and it was fun.

It seems that even streamers that are the ones that endorse it aren't having fun with it, I watched Castros stream and he looked fed up and enjoyed just talking to his chat.

Worst part about the % breakdowns for the packs is that the 4.7% chance is a chance to get ANY TOTY player. If you hit that 4.7% chance, you then go to another stage of randomisation where the game decides which TOTY player to actually give you. So within that 4.7%, approximately 4.65% is all the players you either don't want or aren't valuable, and the remaining 0.05% is the actual chance of getting one of the best cards. In simple terms, you'd have to buy 2000 of those packs, which is equivalent to £70,000, before you could expect one of the best cards based on probability. I was a top 100 player for 3-4 years before FIFA 22, at which point I quit because the game itself was awful. Looks like I got out early enough to avoid this microtransaction cesspit.

I still rock the PS4 and it’s 50/50 if FUT servers can handle the menus, let alone a match this year. In the past, FIFA would have been a reason for me to upgrade, but I don’t have time to get my treat from EA for daily check-ins just to see another 25 SBCs and ANOTHER promo. Then watch pack animations for a half hour to put back into ‘crafting’ SBCs, only to realize I’ve wasted 2 hours and haven’t played ONE match.

This is a really insightful video, mate! its absolutely frustrating how its become this black hole of spend-get pissed-spend again. 😂 what i found works for me is to just play without spending and level my expectations when going up against credit card FC teams. And rejoice in the occassional 7-1 win against Prime R9 merchants 😅 Great stuff dude keep it up!

I've been playing FIFA Mobile since 2017. So I Though this year I would try EA FC on PC for the first time. First of all , the time you need to actually make progress in the game is crazy. As someone who never spent any money on FC points , I've always felt like a had a disadvantage over people who spend lots of money into the game, and even if you want to make some good amount of coins for packs , it's almost impossible to have all the hours you need free in your day to play. Apart from the big currencies problem , the game is absolutely broken , full of glithes and random things happening. I Mean how can a 70 pace defender keep up with a striker who has 94 pace? It's a massive dissapointment , and in this current state , I Can't see myself purchasing another installation of the series. Amazing Video by the way , enjoyed it a lot. as a destiny vet, i stopped playing because i wanted to play fc and im having loads of fun on the rtg spending no money, grinding the game how i want, fifa always had high highs and low lows, if you dont take it too seriously you will enjoy it, if anyone hates fifa/fc so much dont buy it, maybe youll want to play it again in a couple years and enjoy it, maybe youll find a game you enjoy more, people need to stop attaching to one game and when you have other places you can go, the problems with your main game become far less significant

I really think that a lot of other content creators that do pack opening videos are part of the reason as to why this is such a big issue. Their videos are inadvertently encouraging the youth to waste their money on packs to try emulate what they see in videos. I understand that content creators need content to create, and people can waste their money as they please, but I really really really think they need to start putting disclaimers or warnings at the starts of their videos similar to gambling warnings because their content is undoubtedly adding fuel to the fire and crippling those with addictions. Just my 2 cents.

I started playing fifa last year to get into football because I found it interesting while watching the world cup. I heard EAFC was coming out so I was a bit hyped, but it was for the online career mode. Sadly that never became a thing so I never bought it. I downloaded it on the free weekend and it felt like FIFA 23 with a graphic mod and team updates. I hated FUT so much even with the myTEAM on 2k existing I felt like that was less bad than FUT. Everyone kept telling me FUT was fun but whenever I played it I never enjoyed it as much as kick off or career mode.

I remember when there was bronze, silver, gold, team of the week cards, then at the end of the year TOTY cards. Now there flashy orange with blue sprinkle cards either 99 maxed stats, just because. Games just feeding people with addictions opening packs

I solely play career mode on fifa but this will probably be the last time I play I enjoy building teams up and playing with your team that you created

one thing i will say though is surely its better value now? when i was 13 i once spent all my birthday money on fifa points (£60) and did not get a player over 83. i haven't bought points in this years game, but i see packs for £30 that offer crazy stuff guaranteed. i understand the game dynamic has changed but surely its still better value now.

I can't believe how bad its become. The last fifa I played was fifa 20 and I was thinking about getting the fifa 24 (I know thats not the name but it is what it is) as I thought maybe things would have improved. How naive I am. I'm glad I've seen this video now. I remember the buzz of being 12 and getting some fifa points. I was lucky though and got a couple of things from it. The store packs are so tempting….even more tempting this year….i packed Xavi and Lahm toty icons by some upgrade packs but the store packs are insanely expensive and manipulative 18:34 exactly Evolutions got me as well….I upgraded a Walker and i am doing Jota and Armstrong….i bought 1600 points for 10 pound….they even gave me a Van Persie so i go and upgrade for another 10….aint doing it happy with my Di Natale….am buying this game in November next year or in Christmas…fk even the ultimate edition is so cheap in sales…never buying this for full price

This is exactly what I’ve been thinking ever since the game first came out back in September. As someone who as been playing the game since fifa 15 and as someone who is strictly rtg based with no external funding, I don’t need a lot in a game like this to be entertained throughout the year. But even as someone who doesn’t need a lot to enjoy ultimate teams, this might be one of the worst games I have ever played, ever. With repetitive gameplay, metas that take ages to reach without spending a good chunk of money that usually never lasts anyway by the time you get there. Genuinely a terrible experience playing this game and I don’t want to ever touch it again.

what you’re saying is spot on… i was given a sum of money last year to see how well i’d do at saving it… needless to say it all went to FP…the best i got out of that was RTTF Barella, wasn’t bad but it was mad stupid… i decided to play eafc 24 without buying FP and i have garnered better players, a lot more special cards and a couple 100K in coins from trading 🙆🏽‍♂️ it’s not that bad when all you did was pay for a game that was 70% off 🤣 so tbf it’s all about what you do with what you’re given… just don’t spend time watching youtubers pack openings and don’t get tempted by store packs either, i learnt my lesson and i’m better for it, but i still love playing THE GAME, that won’t change even if i get scored on

I Remember playing fifa on ps2. It was such a banger now looking at it. The only improvements are the graphics but even that some people might not agree. I never bother with ultimate team and always prefer career modes. I have shifted to fm now because I just love the realism. ( albeit one of my save Turkey reached a world cup final )

Really happy you started doing more football related videos Liam, since FIFA and EA have been kinda of the same for the last few years (which is dissapointing).

I used to like fifa back then when they always tried to change the engine and gameplay before fifa 09, now it is just pes 2.0 with updated gameplay whatnot. I already bored since fifa 11 or 12 when they decided to make it 'harder' to defend so that the scoreline can be like 9-7 in every match. ultimate team was a great addition in fifa 09, it was a fun mode and we can trade with other players. now it has become a microtransaction machine with dictated price and untradadable. sbc was great too when it was first introduced as a way to make of those unwanted cards, now it has become a way to 'force' people to draw more packs so that they can get cards for sbc.

I have been addicted to buying packs for years now. Don’t no how to stop. Work so hard for ma money but they are genius’s and playing on addictive personalities. Promise maself every week I won’t spend on it at weekend. The addiction is a real thing! Glad I watched this think it might help me a wee bit.

Study addiction, and you will find the same exact habitual resonance, as playing EA FC. The difference here is that "this" addiction is actually legal and prayed upon by EA. keep it up man, i wish youtubers were more vocal and honest about their thoughts and things that actually happen behind the scenes. Everyone is afraid to loose what they built but they forget people dont enjoy youtube because youtube, they enjoy because of the content created by humans not corporations.

That's why I don't play FUT and only play online friendlies with my friends. So I can solely focus on getting angry about gameplay. I don't vibe with the whole concept so I don't really spend more money on it than the basic price of the game.

i absolutely agree about the grinding and fodder packs in the store. i have always been a rtg but the last couple of fifas i have gone from 700SR in elite to div6 because of my job. i love nep because i feel he has a similar mindset like me. grinding menus and sbc to build the best team. so, by jan my team has always been stacked and i used grind 4 hours daily. now, i play for 2 hours and ive run out of the joy to play. also because i got the game during black friday since i cant be arsed. now, i spent a total of 4000 fp for a few packs and mostly evos since i feel spending 400 FP for a guaranteed 5*5* player is worth than gambling in the store. i wanted to build my team and im almost done with zidane but ive run out of fodder. how? ive never ran out of fodder in FUT. the question is why now? which is exactly what you've pointed out that "hey, dont grind, get your sbcs done by buying our pack". and you know what? i got tempted because i know i wont pack any top meta cards but i can get my sbcs done. in the past they got money from pack fiends and now theyre literally getting it from everybody. luckily, after watching so many pack videos from hectic (cringe), auzio (cringe), and nickrftm (good because he shares his opinion), i did not spend my cash. people are happy to pack fodder???!!!! are you kidding me? EA has succesfully brainwashed you my dudes. i cant believe that people spend 35 pounds and still dont pack 2 toty. if i spend that much, i need a min of 2 top meta toty. thats it.

Played FUT since 2021 and I am glad 0 money was spend. Yet since then I packed Mbappe (gold and worldcup), couple TOTY cards (Dias and Jorginho 2022, Kerr and Oberdorf recently), good Icon (best was Eusebio). I was playing casual, only doing SBC I could complete with my resource.

I remember the good times when I saw hashtag agge finish in top 10 in the world and after his rewards finish the R9 SBC I would do so much too go back to that😔

It was like this since many years but in EA FC they took it to another level. I play the game a lot in my freetime and have never spent money on points. This used to be ok because you matched up with many other RTG players, sometimes you would pack something decent and you would complete some sbcs you like. This year you pack absolutely nothing from rewards and sbc packs and are limited to use the same sbc cards everyone else has. Maybe one of 100 opponents has some cool evos in his squad but that's it. Now we have team of the year and because you said nobody cares about the loan cards I have to disagree. 14 out of 20 champs games last weekend I faced at least one loan Toty and that's also how they get people to buy store packs. There are some gamebreaking cards in this Toty that can compensate a lot of missing skill and even tho I got my rank 2 I had a pretty hard time defending haaland and mbappe in games that would have been a walk in the park normaly. I don't even want to play the next weekend league because if I face loan toty van dijk 14 times against opponents that only let the AI defend I might be in trouble. The loans are a genius move from EA in my opinion because way more people face those cards than they normaly would and some might be tempted to buy packs to get those cards too.

Don’t you mean £80 a pop for a 4% chance at a TOTY because you normally have to purchase the highest fc point option to even be able to open those £35 packs which come out every other day? I never thought I was a gambling addict until I started playing ultimate team last year. I am probably going to get roasted for saying this, but I am literally spending £1,000 a month on fut coins, fc points, and boosting and I can’t seem to stop. I would delete this game if I could, but my kids love getting new cards and whatever the next promo is that EA releases. It’s madness, I know. However, videos like this really help me believe I can kick my addiction (?)

I remember the outrage in FIFA 23 when they started selling expensive packs that were nontradable, when in the past all buyable packs were tradable. Now all packs that are worth opening are untradable.
