Awesome work boys! Appreciate the time and attention in all these videos. I like our safety group and I agree with Nick that DeJean probably won’t be playing too much back there I really like his fit inside where he can use that physicality closer to the LOS. Hopefully Brown is back early I think the defense could really use his juice.
It doesn't really have anything to do with this season, but I'm glad you touched on the Kevin Byard thing. It seems like he hasn't really lost any face with the rest of the league, and everyone acknowledges that it was our defense that was the problem. Also, I imagine Safety is the hardest position to be dropped into a new team on (defensively speaking). I really wish I could've seen what our defense would've looked like last year with a competent coordinator, even if it were another year of Jonathan Gannon. This team is too talented to underperform that drastically; We really fucked up bringing Desai in. Thanks for keeping football in the front of my mind this summer. Keep up the great work!
Awesome stuff. Based on having seen all your run downs, it seems like CJGJ is ideal for coverage but possibly catastrophic in run support. Relying on your 20% missed tackle rate S to be your free hitter feels suboptimal!
I'm concerned with the Safety group. Ask NFL talent evaluators about Reed Blankenship. Greg Cosell and Adam Caplin both say Blankenship isn't a starting-caliber NFL Safety, and there's a reason he wasn't drafted, even after putting up good numbers at MTS in college. Also, he was extended with backup money. His foot speed is too slow, and he isn't an interchangeable Safety like Fangio prefers. He's a decent 3rd or 4th Safety. We need an upgrade this year, while Sidney Brown recovers from ACL surgery
I agree with the Interchangeability issue I do not want to see reed Inman coverage at all. That said I do believe that he has intangible abilities that would make him a real asset if he can have limited responsibilities. Jenkins versatility meant McCloud didn't need to be. I think Adam intentionally focus on very objective parts of football to evaluate and that makes him great and consistent but also underrate certain players
If you’re going after a Super Bowl. Not signing someone like Simmons is a crime. One year deal until Sidney Brown is up to speed. I don’t see any downside.
