@@heginschristianstrong7707 ikr. Hoping someone uploads this some day. He had a monster break vs nick varner at one of the events in the 90's or later. Was crazy to think we talk about SVB, but buddy hall was the breaker back then.

Because the general population is brainwashed in many ways (like eating dead animal and dairy which meat is the #1 cause for 95% of diseases, illnesses, and death, fueling big pharma/doctors which is why america will never have free healthcare like real 1st world countries... it's a capitalistic society.. anyway). One is Efren... Efren only has 1 US open and it was the year there was 2 us opens and Efren went to the lesser legitimate tournament with less top talent, so it was an easy win for him. On the other hand, Earl Strickland and SVB had 5 US Opens, not to mention SVB won 3 IN A ROW year after year, and also won 2 World titles that way too... he's the ONLY HUMAN IN THE HISTORY OF EARTH to achieve both of those feats individually. But Efren is the goat and best? FOH. Same for Earl.. .Earl is an actual ATHELETE... he still plays pool today competitively and in tournaments (at least last time I checked) and going overseas... Efren just doings demonstrations for the fanboys who ignorantly think he's the greatest. IF you look at Efren today, he looks beat up and bad like Dan Louie bad. While Earl still looks like a bill of health for his age... is still running miles, still playing other sports etc. They are NOT the same. And as for Buddy... I could go on and on... HE didn't win as many US Opens and other titles, but even Earl would say Buddy was in the top 6 greatest of all time dead or alive. Especially at money games, after hours etc. Buddy the one that would take down whoever won the tournament for everything they got. He was very consistent, bead smooth silky stroke, and even had a instructional pool business with teachers like Rudolpho Luat.

The arrival of Efren Reyes to America raised the kicking aspect of the game from basic "kick to hit" mentality to a more focused kicking with purpose. He also lead a paradigm shift towards more rails when kicking. Case in point the kick you picked would rarely be shot 1 rail today, instead played off the headrail and short on the long rail for a 2-rail hit with the chance of potting in the upper right pocket and also giving a chance of the cueball getting safe behind the 9, 5, and 6 ball.

The tables were so slow compared to today. They didn't seem slow back then though when we were all used to them.

I like the way Buddy strokes the ball. It seems like he got used to the slow table speed quickly. He also seems to be making more balls on the break at least up to this game. Great match.

Yeah, he was trying to make two balls just in case one of them missed. He made the 9 ball which is the biggest goal. A carom with double-combo is quite a shot.

Slow tables isnt only slow cloth. The response of the cushion is mabe an even bigger factor.

meh, that table is ULTRA slow. That is always easy to spot, I normally if I can take one ball and hold it 3 inches above the bottom rail and drop it half ball on the rail so it rolls down. I can tell if it goes to the end and back its a fast table. If it goes to end and dies or barely comes back I have a rough idea what the table is like. That way you don't go in totally blind and think you are going to slice a shot in only to have it die before it gets there :)

yeah 6:10 was a nice combo, but the combo at :40 from buddy was better IMO. ive watched this match a few times, classic- love these old school games. as far as the kick that buddy took at the end, i would have totally done the same shot. 2 rail is a good idea too, but i believe a hard shot is a hard shot and it is a matter of preference. 2 rail is defensive while the 1 is rail offensive. w/e your feeling at that moment IMO but not an unreasonable shot.

One thing this match shows is the HUGE improvement in kicking ability that has taken place from 1988 to today. The kicking style they are playing with in this match is horrible.

So he kicked and hit the right side, and yet 2 sentances later Buddy wanted to "make" the ball and thats it. You cannot even keep your own story straight on the matter. As I said, things have changed. In pool these days most pros are kicking that ball 2 rails because it is the percentage play with higher chances of positive results. That was the entire point of the post, Buddy took on a shot that is a lower percentage play and it proves the point that kicking has evolved since this match.

I'm fairly certain he was going for the carom shot off of the 5, that's why he put so much draw on the ball so that the 3, going for the same corner pocket the cue ball would have been headed to, wouldn't have interfered. That being said, it was still a good shot, I just don't think the 9 was intended.

I disagree - I have examined the approach - Setup and shot many times and he was most definitely playing specifically to make the 9ball - Great 3 ball combination.

No, he obviously tried to make kiss in shot, not the combination.

It is both. Put draw to play keep away on 3 in-case he missed both as well.
