I listened to this song every time I was in a low place in high school. I'm about to graduate with 2 degree in my hand and I got a studio apprenticeship now. Now that I'm here earls vocals hit different, I'm no longer looking up dreaming because I am my own dream now. My quest for power is over. I'm grown.
yeah. it was inspired by macs passing. I know they were close and I hope earl is handling it well... This song does explain earl well.. Living for his squad and leading them with his voice. Touches a lot of the subject matter he talks about
As a kid my dad would always slide on some LLCoolJ, Run DMC, and Beastie Boys. Growing up I started to notice the times he'd play those tracks you could see it in his eyes he was taken back to his youth, you could read it off his face he was reminiscing to some memories he remembered where rock the bells was the sound track. One of the only things I'm looking forward to with growing old is that right there, and I know for a damn fact this will be one of those songs for me. This came out a couple of years ago and that year this jam was on repeat for me. I can't wait until I'm 35 or 40 and my kid slides on some,"old school" and this track comes up. That'll be the day.
They've all got their own ways now pretty much, hodge beats is doing his own thing Earl is always chilling with alchemist Etc etc Doom genesis is doing his own shit
[Quest] [Verse 1] Tunnel vision on a guap stack Malt liquor perspirating through the brown sack Big talk looking thinner when it's combat Swear that shit is astounding I ain't stupid with cash either, I grew up around it They overheard he shoot nice so they knew to surround him Eating shit like he's Shoenice like the booth had a bounty I'ma kill it, it's Early like a school night I'm the realest that you know, my bruised soul In the middle of group home in the locks Threw the times I spent off in group homes in a box I been grown boy And cool coals you spitting just ain't hot, this fire and brimstone You guys should've went home when you could've Took the title, raising bars of what's supposed to be good up His shirt drenched, they wet his rosary wood up And who you 'posed to be, sugar Don't get close to me My heart cold like the fucking carrots in the grocery store And in the morning no Folgers, just 'dro I told my momma that I'm on my way home I know my grandma watching over my soul On some other shit... [Power] [Verse 2] Spent nights off the downers at my desk Did time in the tower off the spliffs I'm not like the cowards on the fence I'm not like I'm lounging on the bench Get up out and get your shit Find some power in yourself or in this shit Listen, my niggas spit All day give 'em what live niggas require My state give up the prize cause I'ma find it Anyway boy we riding Trying to sneak the cake up out the motherfucking bakery quiet Dodge and evade all the fire Watch what you saying to sire Stay out my face and my wallet Move state to state for the profit Said that on Sunday, you peeped it A tiny list of my peoples I see 'em all as my equal So the difference between us is a just a pimp and a preacher I'm running quick from my demons I crush the spliff with my sneaker You know the difference between us These niggas fraud you could see it, all of them out of their feelings I know my heart so I speak it I love the squad so I lead it Eyes wide open, I'm sleepy I'm on the highway, I'm weaving in and out of my lanes I call mom say, that I was all the power I needed She say she glad I'm called she just can't believe it I'm gone
Its 2015 a sophomore in highschool, I wake up to snow outside my window and know school is canceled... lolol this track had just surfaced back then and i turned it on right as i woke up and just looked out the window at the snowfall. went to my boys house and smoked a blunt and had a good day.. lol time flies
Easily one of earls best songs, I find myself coming back to this pretty regularly. This track just brings such a indescribable mood of contentment to em every time I hear it. It’s calming and makes you think. Earl will go down as one of the greatest to ever do it.
after listening to his new album i have a new appreciation for this song and Solace. I've loved songs like Wind in my Sails, but this shit is insanely good and important for music. maybe i'm just stoned
I love the underlying message of self power and the power in good company in all of Earl's music. It was all through out Some Rap Songs and his 'recent' singles. Idk I tend to gravitate towards people as transparent as Earl.
"eyes wide open im sleepy im on the highway im weaving in and out of my lanes i call mom say that i was all the power i needed she say she glad im called she just can't believe it" *IM GONE*
"Sleepy, I'm on the highway." How can I possibly be so happy he brought a bar back and reused it in another song? I'm getting hyped over bars used twice.
It ain't really a bar more of a line and a call back at that. He also said "tunnel vision on a guap stack, big talk looking thinner when it's combat" on Yacht Lash ft Riff Raff admittedly this is a better song.
@@papagrande7448 The lyrics are so damn good I ain't mad he use em twice. If you haven't figured it, I was talking about E. Coli as far as reusing bars.
You guys don't understand how amazing earls next project is gonna be. IDLS was just something to put out so his fans could shut the fuck up for a while and he could work on real shit. He's been working on his next album since 2014 and is gonna have a fuckin shitload of amazing features. Everyone keep on bein patient were in for a dope end to the summer or beginning to fall.
i don't want a shit load of features. main reason why I didn't bump Doris as much as i did. but IDLS is just a whole lot of earl. I banged that album everywhere I went to.
Earl is just something else man, thank god i started listening to him, his first three studio albums can be interchanged any time of the day and solace is a piece of art that cant be touched. The earl mixtape is also a trip down nostalgia road, as a 16 yr already having those dope bars are crazy to me. Hope yall find solace cause i found mine in earls music
This man is a true inspiration and not only as an artist but as a human. You move forward, i move forward, thank for teaching how to deal with a tar pit full of our ways.🤝
I love this song so much. Both of them are amazing. There is something so soothing yet empowering about this track. I wish I could explain it, but you'd have to just keep listening until you get me.
2:24 "I know my heart so I speak it, I love the squad so I lead it". Earl is definitely on my top 5 list of greatest MCs of this generation, one day he'll become mainstream for sure.
