First watched stuffwriter's version, but ready to watch again here, Matt's teaching and storytelling never gets old! Thanks for sharing and please give Matt an especially big thanks from those of us who can't afford to be in Gettysburg!
Benjamin Turner Judy watched again. Always nice to learn in such a pleasant way. Never miss these videos. His tales bring the history alive. I’d never heard of this rather obscure Officer. Thanks so much for posting the videos especially for those of us that live too far away to attend. It puts us in the audience even though we cannot be there in person. Please give Mr. Atkinson my regards.
You know I watched this lecture in a previous series by Matt Atkinson, and this one was even better than that one. Keep improving the lectures they are amazing!!! Could be the same presentation even just with a few extra bits added but its still just such a damn interesting story
This has been in my opinion the best presentation, I have ever experienced by a federal park Ranger, Matt you covered truth, and details, and about U S Grant's father being down there, and ab a treatment towards Hebrews, that's great information, that's been so easily ingnored or over looked. Yes Gen'l Earl Van Dorn was by no means a Saint, however I do feel after your coverage,he could've done more, had he lived, but the what ifs could run anyone insane. You stuck to the facts. WO any more Emotions than anyone could not feel by the casualties. Horrible ! Lest We Forget.... Please do more.
From what I find, he was a quartermaster before being promoted to Kirby Smith's staff, then was sent to Europe as a purchasing agent, then joined Van Dorn. But that was just a quick bit of research.
