A definitive Amiga title, regardless of if some realize it or not. My thanks to AmigaLove for the manual: ru-vid.com - My written review with pics and gifs: shot97retro.blogspot.com/2021/10/earl-weaver-baseball-in-depth-written.html

Earl Weaver Baseball for the Amiga 500 is STILL the best baseball video game I've played. A friend and I drafted from the pool of EWB players and ran an 81-game season for 7 different years, 567 total games played. I need to check out some old stuff in the attic, because we printed out season-ending stats for "year" that we played. A shout-out also needs to go to Wayne Gretzky Hockey 2 (and Hockey League Simulator) from Bethesda Softworks. Still the most fun I've had playing any hockey video game.

WGH with the hockey league simulator is definitely one I'll be getting to eventually.

Best baseball game ever! I have a factory sealed copy of this along with a factory sealed copy of F/A-18 Interceptor at the forefront of my Amiga and PC big box game collection.

Man, I loved this game on my Amiga 500.... Me and a friend would manage our teams and play full seasons one game at a time. Printed out stats on a dot matrix printer... Oh the good ole days

This game represents the BIGGEST LEAP IN TECHNOLOGY gaming ever saw. Customizable VOICE feature would allow you to teach the announcers how to pronounce your characters name... INCREDIBLE. The RUNNING GAME. Stealing bases were SO ACCURATE. You could customize from 1 to 10 how fast or slow they ran. Stadiums ... rosters EVEN TRADING... all customizable. So many 1sts in this game.

Best game ever, I wish they made games like this nowadays, ya know strategy based and not about hitting homeruns and throwing the bat

Ah, a classic. I loved this game as a kid. I had no idea what I was doing but yeah.. I had no idea Amiga Blue/Discovery wall mounted displays knew anything about baseball O_O

Sure I saw this on The Computer Chronicals and for the time it was amazing. Not a baseball fan, only the English version of baseball that Americans probably hate... cricket. Your comments about the amiga voice synthesiser are do true. Here is a system with a narrator device and library literally in ROM that any program could interact with! Sweet review!
@Shot97

We don't get to see cricket much, but personally I tend to enjoy any sport I'm unfamiliar with if only to see if I can work out the rules just by watching. I had quite a few games which used the voice synth, and I was amazed by it every time! Wish more games found uses for it.

I posted this video on the Earl Weaver Baseball Simulation page on Facebook. I hope there is a lot more interest in this great game.

@@Shot97 I have one question to ask you. Are you playing Earl Weaver on an actual Amiga or an emulator? I thought about getting the Amiga forever on PC.
@Shot97
@Shot97 2 года назад
@@bpsylvester I show everything from real hardware. I have experience with using the emulator WinUAE, and I even have Amiga Forever, but I never really used that one. Everything I cover on RU-vid is real hardware unless noted otherwise.

I think this is the baseball game I’ve been looking for. I was buying old copies of MicroLeague for DOS from ebay and researching what might offer the best mix of managing and action. Will this run on later AGA machines?
@Shot97
@Shot97 2 года назад
MicroLeague was also on the Amiga, very good game, although that's strictly a managing game. It has kind of "reenactments" of the plays so you can watch them, but you're only managing in that one. Good game though, and I played that one back in the day. There was actually quite a few baseball games on the Amiga prior to '93, that's when it dried up over here. But yeah, when the late 90's games can't emulate the feeling of something from '87, ya know it's something special. It's a great mix of managing and action while giving realistic results. Will it work on AGA machines? According to a quick test I did in WinUAE, it crashes after the title screens. I know there's a lot of ways to dumb the AGA machines down though. So you might want to experiment before you buy it.

There was also a Earl Weaver 2 released for DOS, which I think some people still mess with it so there's up to date rosters. I've never played that one but some of the magazines felt it was a black eye on the franchise. I know it has some fans, though. So in case you can't get this working on your Amiga, you could look into that one too.
