Back then a lot of companies often shared the same 800 number. When you called the number an operator (a real one!, not a machine) would ask you what you were calling for then transfer you accordingly. I remember the number 1-800-USA-1000 was used to sell everything from Time Life books to Xmas movies.
Hey man, this kid was in a coma for 6 weeks, was supposed to be a vegetable if she even came out of it, but she limped her way through a 5k 6 months later!
They used that telephone number a lot back in the 80s and 90s. I believe it was an outsourced company that took the orders for various companies on TV.

What I found awesome was the very first commercial, the US-1 Fire Alert truck. I still own the tracks & trucks. I came across them somewhere in my parents attic a few weeks ago searching for some old nostalgic stuff for my house. Whether it work or not, I doubt it... but I certainly remember it fondly.
