Awesome job! Is it possible to upgrade the CPU itself? I have the same-ish computer modded to include a 1TB SSD, but I only have 4GB RAM so it's still running OS11.1 but I'd like a newer OS

Sorta… if you have a slower CPU, you can put a slightly faster in, but it will still be a dual core… the only ones you can actually upgrade to something quad like are the 2012 models

It looks simple enough, maybe I can go for it, can you tell me where can I buy the chips and the model for them? if I am going to risk damaging my laptop I will go for the 16 GB as well Cheers!!

You still have to flash the ROM chip otherwise it will treat it like you still have 8GB if it works at all… honestly if you have the equipment to put the chips on and you can do it it’s very possible to do it but doing the ROM chip part is the fun more challenging part if you already have the skill set to swap chips

if its slower than 867mhz and youre installing leopard youll need leopardassist or install tiger

I wonder if this has ever been done on anything PowerPC? Like, I wonder what the max onboard for an iBook Clamshell would be? Imagine if the onboard could be nudged up to 512mb for a combined 1gb of RAM... I bet it would run The Sims VERY well. XD Of course even in that situation the bottleneck on a lot of PPC Mac games is going to be the GPU... It's both a blessing and a curse how quickly graphical performance advanced in the early 2000s. Would love to run Jedi Academy on my Clamshell... Lol.

no thats no possible. u can only max it out to what the PCH supports

Well if the controller supports it and you can put enough chips on the board then yes… it’s finding chips big enough that the controller supports that is the problem

@@HrutkayMods Well, just thinking about my 2011 17" MBP: It has a 2760QM that supports up to 32GB, and though it's expensive, you can get 2x16GB modules. Another stretch, but it should be cool to also program it to support more than 1.5GB of memory on the Intel HD 3000. I know I'm drawing big here lol.

the issue is , cpu limit, if you look on intel ark it says the cpu's on these support up to 16gig, no more. in the end it's the cpu that defines the limit , in this case we just add a configuration that wasn't added.

I mean, if you already have it no… and since he’s a friend, I got the friends and family discount which means I only had to pay for the chips… but it’s just a few hundred dollars which really honestly isn’t that bad for twice the memory and honestly makes the system a heck of a lot more useful

@@HrutkayMods I'm actually purchasing the equipment to do this. Could you kindly tell me the information for the RAM. I've got an idea of what RAM he's using that you purchased but having the direct information would be extremely helpful. The other video where he does this has video shots of what he's doing and the process. I'm going to effort to do the same thing as purchasing junk Macbook air laptop and making a working FrankenMac is actually extremely easy. I'd seriously appreciate the help.

@@HrutkayMods I’m tryin to see if it would be better to do that or just switch the board to a 2017 and add 16gb ram its just a Mac I use in bed but I love it lol I have a m1 Mac mini I do most my work on. I also have it running Ventura and it runs great just gets a lil warm hahaha

The Chinese remove some resistors so that no configuration is needed.

That's only if there is an available upgrade to 16gb as a choice when released. This MacBook Air had a max of 8 GB offered so there is no resistor to remove.
