This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. America's political ideals are so obvious today that we rarely stop to think where they came from. Professor Darren Staloff asks, how did the architects of America come to hold such radical convictions?
Darren Staloff is a Professor of American History at the City College of New York, CUNY. He received his BA, MA, and PhD from Columbia University and specializes in early American intellectual and political history. He is the author of several essays and articles as well as two books, The Making of an American Thinking Class: Intellectuals and Intelligentsia in Puritan Massachusetts and Hamilton, Adams, Jefferson: The Politics of Enlightenment and the American Founding. He is currently the Director of the Hertog Scholars Program at Macaulay Honors College, CUNY.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
