This singing is not only about colors, voice, technique and breath, BUT also it is about the mental state and soul~~And Caballe has all of them!! She is unique!!
I have this signed record set with her autograph on the front . It is in a frame with museum glass over it. It is one of my favorite possessions, she was unbelievable!
I have always loved Caballe and she has been my idea of the perfect voice. People will compare her to Sutherland who's sound was like singing through a tunnel with words that were difficult to understand (although I love her voice). They compare her to Callas which is ridiculous as Callas had an almost unreal quality when she was at her best but it was not always beautiful and she all too often did not deliver when the time came. Caballe was sure and steady and her performances were precise but glittering. She sounded like a girl singing softly but then had a volume that was beyond reach. Her voice was truly angelic and no one could surpass her.
Unmistakable Caballé! But this is otherworldly. She's weaving lace out of gossamer. If you so much as breathe, you break it. Her human throat and chest may be dust and ashes, but this perfection exists on, like a promise of never-ending eternity.
Unrepeatable. A caress of sensitivity and virtuosity. Human being will never forget the perfection of the Divine pianissimo on her voice... The present day will be studied like the day one of the best soprano in history died.
If she was not the best then who in the world was? She could go from the gossamer lace to full-throated emotion; to the highest, softest pianissimi to the strongest mezzo chest voice. Whatever the music demanded. There are and have been many immensely talented sopranos. But Montserrat Caballe just leaves them all behind. Brava Maestra Caballe. We will have her thrilling voice forever.
Why people are comparing her to Southerland here is beyond me. They were such individual voices. But I think Montserrat had the edge over the other greats of the day with the exception of Callas. Her ability to sing a pianissimo that was heard to the top gallery was amazing. When she caressed a note, it spun out like gold, her ear was absolutely impeccable. Her lower notes were dark, rich and yet sparkling with vivacity. Always. I am sorry discovered her so late in life, but recordings like this make up for it. Thank You!!!
early Caballe is something unreal... comparing is natural, for me Callas is not approached by anyone else in recorded history but Caballe was the No1 in her own personal Universe... Deities these women were...
I just purchased this on EBay, but it is autographed by her in silver marker on the right side of the figure vertically. I don’t know if she signed this particular cover, or she signed a cover and they printed copies of it. I like to think it was the former , but not sure. I want to get in in a shadow box to display. It’s too thick to put in a regular frame. It is so beautiful and in mint condition. Can’t believe my luck in this purchase.
One of the most endearing stories I heard about her was that she could never look at the score and see almost anything above the staff. She would say, oh no, I cannot sing that note or that high maestro. But if you didn't show her what she was singing, just listen to the result!
omg dude her sound is Huge here... she sings from behind the scene :D plus the fact that she sings Pianissimo... this is a HUGE PIANISSIMO.. it is Phenomenal :D
Bellisima!! Thank you again for providing us with musical bits that I had not heard before from artists I know ... to artists I was not familiar with at all ...
Georg M This is a criticism? Sutherland had probably the most natural upper register of all time, and here Caballe displays almost the same freedom on the high tones. Caballe in her prime was never 'flawed' in an ugly sense of the world. Yes she lacked range and sometimes her agility was off, but never flawed in a vulgar or crass sort of way. The sound was always beautiful.
As allways Caballé estratosférica, I think Bellini could not dream a voice like this, althought she is not Callas this is her territoir and there not dout, only she is at the same level than Callas in Bellini'd roles. Magic pure Magic
i think caballe was a spinto...she goes from piano to full throttle in a split second. the typical lyric would have blown their larynx out. Yes, its a recording but her voice sounds imposing at times
she was definitely NOT just a soprano lyric... Imo she was a unique form of Assoluta Soprano who had the slight misfortune of not having an easy D6 / Eb6 forte... if she had those two tones she would have been a classic full Assoluta soprano, the only true rival of Callas in the 20th century
@@mugrad25 a note exists inside a singer's throat if she can sing it frequently and easily... like Callas' and dame Joan's Eb6s (tons of them)… a note a singer sings a few times live belongs to the active range but it is the limit (E6 for both dame Joan and Maria) … a note the singer sings rarely to never or in her bathroom (F6, F6# for Maria and dame Joan) does not belong to the active range of the singer
Lohengrin O , Sir do you know if they put out a series of this cover with her autograph? I have this one and it has her autograph. It is in what looks like a silver sharpie perhaps. I know that in 69 the silver sharpie was not yet on the market. Maybe it was autographed later. It is in pristine condition and I recently had it framed in a shadow box book mount style. There no certificate of authenticity. I purchased it on EBay.
@@LohengrinO I agree! Caballe was a quasi-assoluta singer who lacked the extreme ranges of a true assoluta (Callaa), but could adapt her voice to heavy dramatic roles like Norma, as well as quintessential lyric roles like Mimi and the Mozart countess. She was the opposite of Sutherland, who had those upper 6th octave notes, but lacked the middle and lower register.
The tenor is Amedeo Zambon. Alaide : Montserrat Caballé Il Conte Arturo di Ravenstel : Amedeo Zambon Isoletta di Montolino : Biancamaria Casoni Il Barone di Valdeburgo : Vincente Sardinero Il Priore degli Spedalieri : Alan Ord Maestro Concertatore e Direttore : Anton Guadagno New York, Carnegie Hall, 26 mars 1969.
@@LohengrinO I guess You referred to Amedeo Zambon. Sorry, William Stadel, but Zambon was a marvellous voice of tenor eroico, like Del Monaco. These foreigners do not understand anything about italian tenor voices!
