Things were so much more simpler in the 90s. I know every decade has its issues. But I truly miss the 80s and the 90s. Especially during the holidays. It felt magical. I can’t explain it. I’m sure everyone in their late 30s-40s knows what I’m talking about. Technology also really ruined our human to human skills. Not one person distracted from a cellphone or iPad. @@thedelightfullytacky No, they are suggesting that we evolve to become normal human beings that respect themselves & others again, like they did in the 90's. Human beings now act as if they are animals instead of people, with absolutely no self-control, no shame, class, dignity, or respect. It's disgusting. Also, makeup is supposed to highlight your features & make them stand out, or to cover blemishes here & there. It's NOT supposed to cover all of your features altogether, or to paint a completely new face onto yourself where you either look like a lady of the night who charges for the hour, or a drag queen clown- not a good look... but I guess that is a pretty accurate representation of our society today, what they value, & how they live- absolutely disgusting, & not a good look at ALL.

Walmart ruined this type of store experience by creating a store where everything is bottom-of-the-barrel (the products selection, the quality of the products, the way they treat their workforce). Look how nicely everything is laid out and how the store is crowded with goods without being trashy. Look at the pride the Woolworth people take in their appearance and the appearance of the store. Walmart came in and basically put all these stores out of business by underpaying their workforce and now we have all sorts of trashy places like Dollar General and Dollar Tree, where there are u-boats of product sitting in the aisles waiting to go on the shelves, understaffed and stressed store workers and people with no health insurance. Walmart has been a plague on the US.

I was a manager at a Dollar General in GA in 2017-18. You would not believe how absolutely cheap that company is. They only staff the stores with 2 people at any given time, and one of them is always a part timer. Its on the managers to stock the store, as well as help the other employee cashier if need be, handle all the other store duties and so forth. I worked evenings, and the part timer would not come in till 6, so from 3pm till then, I'd be alone, and no way I could have gotten to all the stuff they want you to do. During the 2017 holidays, it was an absolute mess in the store I worked in, and me and the other 2 managers could barely keep the shelves stocked, which we would get in trouble for from the district manager. They would not hire any seasonal help, or allow anyone to stay after hours and do some stocking or even some cleaning. In fact, the closing manager has to be out of the building by 20 mins after closing, or they start calling and asking why you are still there. I ended up quitting about 3 months into 2018 after constantly getting barraged by the DM over things it was virtually impossible to do. I have no idea how they find people to work in these places anymore. The one I worked at, since the pandemic, is only open from noon till 8pm now days, because they are short of help. And they keep opening new ones in my area, which are also on limited hours due to them not being able to find staff. Its mindblowing.
@birdsfan57
@birdsfan57 Год назад
@@treysimmons7707 This is all so true. Every time I go into one of their stores (in fact, I was just in one today), the lone employee looks totally exhausted and overwhelmed, between trying to unpack stock and fill-in the shelves, while customers are lining up at the register and hitting the counter bell, because they don't want to use the one self-service bay. That's why the first thing one notices when entering the store are signs that state that they're hiring. I would guess employee turnover to be quite high.
@treysimmons7707
@treysimmons7707 Год назад
@@birdsfan57 And I forgot to mention more about the part timers I talked about. They would want us to hire people, and lie to them and tell them it was 25 plus hours a week, but they would really be getting 10 hours a week, 2 shifts. So, most people we hired, when they realized that (I actually told a few of them off the bat if I could see they were really needing money, Id go look, you better go find another job cause you'll only get 2 shifts here) was going to be the case, they'd quit. Of course, the DM would blame the high turnover on management. Every 2 to 3 weeks, we'd be hiring new part timers, and within 2 to 3 weeks, they'd all be gone. It would only be me and the 2 other managers for a week (of course we'd be in trouble for working more than 35 hours a week in this time) working the store, then they'd lure some other poor, unsuspecting people in, it was never ending. Ours did not have a self checkout, just 2 registers, and we were in a very busy area, so from about 4 till 10 pm, we closed at 11 (unlike other DGs, this one stayed open an hour later due to the high volume it did), the place was slammed 7 days a week. And you know another shitty company with similar policies? Family Dollar.

Dammit....I miss this kind of store and shopping. The in-store diner? I always wanted to eat there after we were done shopping because they served the BEST sandwiches and milkshakes! Woolworth's, Kmart and Pic 'N Save were places your parents could give you $1 or a couple bucks to buy something for yourself. That 1 or 2 bucks got you some gum, candy, a toy and "something for your little brother/sister" because mom made you do the last part. And you could wander the aisles safely not worrying about predators, kidnappers or trafficking rings lurking nearby to take you. I never appreciated that time and those days when life was simpler, less rushed, technology free and just being a kid was all I had to be.

Our family in the sixties was large. We never had a lot of extra money. We lived on a farm . One day my mother announced we were going to the big city to do some shopping. We ended up at Woolworths. It was a grand place to a kid whose whole life was living out in the country. The store was at street level , and when we took the escalator downstairs there was more shopping and a big cafe. We ate there. It was a magical day for all of us kids. Wow!
