The kitchen garden is full of surprises - like unusually early frost! I was just getting used to the thought of summer ending, and now here we are. Right on the edge of a new season. Join me on a walk through my late summer garden to find out what I'm up to now. I hope the vlog inspires you to make fall preparations while also enjoying the last drops of summer in the garden.
If you enjoy this video, check out my other vlogs too! And make sure to subscribe to my channel for more helpful tips on growing vegetables and flowers in your own garden. I have all kinds of garden hacks for beginners as well as seasoned growers!
Or, read my garden blog at sarabackmo.com where I tell you all about my Swedish kitchen garden and how to become self-sufficient in vegetables. I go through everything from mulching to starting new beds, raised bed gardening, bokashi composting, hydroponic gardening and much more!

Hi Sara. Japan Backpacker Express You Tube has wonderful tours of gardens. Just saw Yellow Cosmos there & made me think of Sara. I love it when the photographer takes time for the viewer to truly see the plant. Sara you do this all the time. Such a special form of art, plus when or not to do talking or music. Thank you Sara.

Slugs aren't too much of a problem here since we have a lot of toads eating them. Our greens do need protection from voles, rabbits and skunks though. I planted lettuce of many varieties in many different places all through the year and only a few survived. The only ones that survived were hidden and temporarily stunted from being overgrown by mustard greens and radishes, and that bolted and turned bitter from the heat when the radishes and mustards were harvested. So I will have to provide protection for them next year (ex hardware cloth barrier).

You have been SO busy!!! Thank you for taking time for filming - your garden is beautiful. I often tell myself my garden is a pathway, not a destination. 2021 = for me the year of five snap peas and many, many marigolds. 😂 To 2022!

Do you now or in the future have plans to have your books translated into English? I've just come upon your You Tube channel and I am enjoying it, especially the back story of you and your family. Your gardens are beautiful!! Your seed trays and greenhouse are so clean organized and attractive. Happy gardening!! 😄😎🐴🐎😁 I like the horses nextdoor to your home!! Sharon from Connecticut, USA

Sara, i simply love your channel. Its a pitty the gardening program and your books are only in swedish. Please keep up the good work and can you tell more about ground cherry`s , mine are to slow to ripen before the frost (sown in februari inside) and i saw in a video yours where ( in the greenhouse)they where giving massive fruit ( I live in Belgium). The red lettice is radicchio in English and i saw close to them on the right hand side black flowers, are those zinnia`s? Never seen them that dark if so. Can you also tell me where you ordered them? Thank you! Hugs from Belgium ( I`m also a mother, 3 teenagers, who can`t share her garden passion with her family and its so great to not feel alone in my crazy plant love).

Wow, a new book and a show, is the show something you'll continue over the years, or just a one time series.? I did notice the new name some days ago. Really sad to hear you lost all those peaches, they are my favorite summer fruit. How cold does it get there, I hope your frost was a strange happening and not the start.

Hi Wende! Thank you for visiting my channel. Usually in January and February it gets really col, but even December and March can be cold, minus 10 degrees is not unusual. Take care! 😊

@@Skillnadens That sounds very similar to me here in Maryland, the Mid-Atlantic area of the east coast in the states. If your -10 degrees is 14 degrees F, I don't usually get lower than 20 F, and that's not for many days thru the winter. Same as you, coldest Jan - March.

I feel your pain about the Wonder berries (beware anything that starts with Wonder) The birds planted our plants from other places - they pooped out the seed under the bird feeders now it is trying to grow in our micro meadows. The berries are wonderful, we usually make wonder berry crunch (berries and oatmeal with brown sugar) great on ice cream. They are best picked when the berry turns a dull black all over, the "poison" hype is not true. Hold fashioned books stated they were poisonous and people just keep repeating the wrong info. The plant is eaten all over the African continent, even when the berries are green! The berries are featured in cookbooks in the southern states of America. They are a "yummy nuisance".

Wonder when do the gladioles start flowering in your place in sweden? Mine in southern Estonia are already finished. It depends ofcourse of variety, butas you already have first frost, do you see blossoms? Woud be sad if you didnt. I was growing fist time this year, these were 1,5 meters high this year and made me sooo happy! I compare the climates and weather for growing tips etc. Hope you dont mind. We had first frost nearly the same time this year, too early in my opinion. Love your garden and thank you offering a lots of good ideas! Would like to copy aaaalll! 😝😀🙊

Congratulations on your new book. I will look for it. I will also look for your newly named channel. Take care, stay safe and thanks for your videos. Just wondering if there are lingdonberries in Sweeden? Back in Newfoundland and Labrador they are called red berries or partridge berries. If you have time google them. They grow low to the ground and if picked early abit sour or when very ripe they are very sweet. What was the name of those white berries you showed us called again. I am not familiar with them. Now I am curious.

Hi there Peter! Yes, we do have Lingonberries in Sweden. It is lovely to make lingonberry jam for example. Take care! 😊🌸
