I made my first SPOM in a frozen biome with a AETN, and it easily kept up. If you tuneup the Hydrogen Gens you can run the AETN fulltime and still have excess hydrogen. If you don't, you want to only have the excess hydrogen feed into the AETN, which of course will reduce the cooling. My water coming in was around 80-85c, so my oxygen would be even hotter than the default.
I tried without tune up it doesnt keep up but never thought of adding elec. station to make it use less hydrogen really smart tho again when I build a spom I just kinda forget about it and leave it there . I ended up using the hydrogen on aetn and pumped excess to gens I had a buffer tank before it and I just connected them to my main spine it did the trick
A ranch design I got from another OniTuber [Magnet i think] to save some dupe labor for flox/bammoth/hatch ranches [any critter you can feed from a feeder that doesn't need special atmosphere or create fluids] involves putting all your incubators on a bottom floor and using mechanized airlocks hooked to a critter sensor instead of tiles for the floor where your stations are. The secsor is set to open the door when it detects any eggs. this sweeps the eggs and critter poo down into the incubator room where an auto-sweeper or dupes can deal with it more easily and you aren't waiting for dupe labor to clear eggs. It doesn't work with crabs, seals, pips, slicksters, pufts, divergeants or dreckos, but works great for floxes, bammoths and hatches.
I once built a full rodriguez that had an AETN inside of it. The gas pumps and electrolyzers had been made out of copper (no gold amalgam or steel yet). The SPOM lasted for hundreds of cycles. Every few cycles it did have to take a pause to let the AETN catch up, but more fine tuned automation of when the AETN had to shut off probably could have eased that issue.
Dude. This is crazy how well you play this game. I’m learning a ton and why wife just looks at me with that “again!?” Look when I turn on your videos, haha. Thanks for all the tips and tricks. Keep it up!
18:00 you may laugh at the thought of someone getting excited from a chlorine vent, but on my achievement hunt colony, lucky me rolled a seed where there is excatly one chlorine vent on the entire star map, and it's on the moo planetoid. So i was forced to set up a secondery colony on a palnetoid that has no water sources and the avarage temp is around -50°C because 2 out of the crop plants that count towards that wretched gmo achievement consume chlorine (not even counting waterweeds)
An easy way to find geysers is to put the temperature overlay on relative and all the way to the bottom. That way the nutronium is easy to see against the red!
The classy Echo mistake on the SPOM bridge lol! For the AETN + SPOM combo, I've built a few of those and it worked for me. It'll take a bit of time to get the AETN running since you need to wait for the Hydrogen to back up in the pipes leading to Hydrogen generators then send the excess to it. I find that the AETN consumes Hydrogen at a slow rate so you should see it back up in the pipes leading to it so the excess can be sent somewhere like for the Drecko farm or further Hydrogen generators.
Mask O2 supply. Put a vent with a gas element sensor and a not gate. If not O2 detected, open the vent. This way only pure O2 is delivered. Works on Atmo Suits too.
The sweedle ranch is 3 tiles short for having 8 critters and the SPOM has a backwards gas bridge coming out of the Hydrogen gas pump. I had this on in the background so if this was corrected in episode and I missed it then I'm sorry. Other than that, love the content and enjoying the run.
If you are playing with the Spaced Out DLC a quick and cheap trick to handle germs or slimelung instead of using deodorizers that require sand, power, and manual labor is to dig up any uranium you have and build mechanized air locks out of them in the area where you want to neutralize the slimelung. The radiation will kill it. Once all the slimelung is gone, then you can deconstruct the mechanized airlocks and reclaim your uranium. The other tip is to use pips to wild plant a couple of wheezeworts in that area too. They also produce radiation that will kill of the slimelung and being that they are wild planted, you don't need phosphorus to fertilize them. It's little things like this that can go a long way in saving resources, power consumption and manual labor within your colonies. AFAIK this is only valid with the Spaced Out DLC.
deodorizers convert po2 to oxygen, they dont kill the germs, the germs die because they cannot survive in oxygen. polluted oxygen makes dupes have yucky lungs and consume more oxygen, so not dealing with the polluted oxygen in a max dupe run is not good at all
Yeah, this will deal with slimelung, but not the PO2... Your dupes are then going to have to contend with yucky lung instead. Not as bad as slimelung, but still inefficient. This is a valid choice in some situations, but I wouldn't take it as the gold standard default method.
@@erebus5170 True, but if you are limited on resources and want to get rid of early slime lung or to prevent it from getting into your colony it is a quick and cheap, dirty method. ^^
you can use priority system emergency on the geyser to check what it is without digging, it sends you a red alert and you can hover over it to see what it is.
Well, he actually said he could. There's no right way to do anything in oni (though lots of wrong ways) but personally, this early in the game, on this challenge, I'd be looking at the most efficient way! (edit: accidental early post)
You definitely can feed the AETN by excess hydrogen from the SPOM, but its very tight, you will need some simple automation for disabling AETN. Plus starting consumption of hydrogen to get AETN to the working conditions would exceed SPOM output, so you'll need to buffer some hydrogen first.
20-30 dupes is a pretty std end game goal. Echo however is doing a challenge run, where he HAS to take a dupe each pod, and see how far he makes it before the dumpster fire or his pc errupt into flames.
fun fact! my current world that i occasionally mentino echo when on stream, the one i got a working spom going? yeah im actually using the entropy nulifyer and built my spom around it. i need to do some tweeking sadly with layout since i basically shoved it all into the area of abyssalite to try and contain it, but i think ill be able to get a good work on it. -durzadee
Last episode you said you were waiting on chlorine to make a chlorine room, just remember that a chillwort will emit enough rads to kill germs in polluted water in a tank
Slurms will be pretty good if you intend to build another colony somewhere to get some more water (and other resources). He'll rocket there, build up a base, and keep himself fed. He'll also feed others if you send them there.
Anyone else notice that the swamp had a kind of skull shape to it next to the long run? Where Echo decided to dump the hot water from his metal refinery?
No mushroom farm? You can actually build a basic SPOM around the AETN. Put the electrolyzer on airflow tiles over the AETN so the oxygen will get cooled, then a gas pump + gas filter over that to separate out the hydrogen. Send the hydrogen to the AETN (10g/s) and the rest to the hydrogen generator. Pipe the unfiltered output from the gas filter behind the AETN then combine it with the output from a gas pump at the base of the AETN. Cool oxygen even if you pump in hot water.
You did it again. building Oxygen masks when you have the capability to build Atmo suit dock with a just a smidge more research. So worth it since you have the fiber. But i realize you didnt have the refined metals for the stations yet. Especially running that many dupes. Wondering why you didn't build the Hydra Setup instead of the SPOM. since this is going to run flat out their a great way to store excess hydrogen.
I had once a map that had a huge slime biome it was before spaced out and It was literally surrounding the sandstone biome(starter) all arround this slime biome you called the biggest continuous yeah its about 1/3-1/4 of it I still remember clearing all the slime into algea just for fun and not using it because I had spom xD
Btw, regarding research, can't you have multiple stations in order to speed up research. You have several dupes suitable. Though I guess it would hurt the labor force avaliable.
Please open that point of interest just to the left of the base- it looks like it should have a neuro-vasilator to give someone some bonus skills... hoping for something good!
The world on my current play through my colony is basically in life support. I don't have enough power, the generators i have are heating up the area to scolding temps and i don't have an industrial sauna yet. I am low on oxygen and spom isn’t ready, and because the lack of power my bristle blossoms aren't growing well enough to feed my 8 dupes (also my dupe labor cost is through the roof trying to get things in done so my colony can thrive but without more power i can't grow enough food to feed more dupes) the only reason my colony is still alive is because i have a mode that lets me reroll the printing pod instead of rejecting all
Instead of having multiple standard size SPOMS which you will need I assume eventually 4 or more why not build a huge single 1 or max 2 and call it the S.U.P.P.O.R.T , obviously standing for secret underground power producing oxygen releasing technology LOL One that mighy be able to produce 2 kg H2/sec ( 4 pumps) and a 10 pumps base (or more) for O2 . 5 kgs /sec*600 secs=~3 tons of oxygen per cycle. Should be enough to support a good 70 ish colony right? 2 of these giants should be enough to probably supply the latgest duplicity you can dream of
Seems like you took my advice on grubfruit, I think? By the way, you would be better off keeping the grubgrubs wild, but getting more wild grubs requires printing, which... You can't do.
I find cooling oxygen to be a total waste of time. The thermal capacity of oxygen is completely negligible compared to water. I just build a spom (often fed from extremely hot 90°+ water) and immediately follow it up with an AC unit that circulates through my living area via liquid pipes. Problem solved and I never have to care about cooling the oxygen itself or finding some far-away location to place the spom.
PLEASE be aware before you go diggy diggy making a p water tank... There is a sporechid North West of the hermit in with the fossil. No zombie apocalypse thank you!
Farm tiles have to be deconstructed and rebuilt if you ever want to replace them - other tiles can just be "built over". This can be disruptive (even allow escapes) if used in ranches, but can be annoying in other scenarios too.
If you can get the materials for it, absolutely. It also increases the temperature, so that is something to be wary of, but with the steam vent... FREE POWER*!
