With the high temperatures, i thought it would be more rewarding to concentrate my fishing to the early mornings and late evenings. The trout was caught on a size 16 Pheasant Tail dry fly (old school). And the rod was a 8ft Garrison split cane made by Luke Bannister. Fishing a 10ft home made leader of 2lb.

A lovely video, thank you for sharing. I hope to one day fish a bamboo rod. I am also quite inspired by your simple single-camera videos with only the ambient sound of the river. It is my hope that one day I can manage to make videos as simple and pure as yours.

Very difficult day yesterday , I was probably out round the same time as yourself but just over the way on the other side … I came away with 3 stunning spotties over both upper sections, manage to rise and miss a few more …., spooked a biggie that took off and I never saw again . A 16 cdc and elk took one , a very sparse cdc upwing pattern took the second and the last one fell to a small black magic emerger .. Came away with a big smile on my face and a slightly better understanding of how to go about fishing these two rivers but still have a long way to go to crack the code on these clever fish that’s for sure … Truly brilliant day regardless of catching or not 👍

Well done Dave, it sounds like you had a fantastic day. The Doe and the Twiss can be both fickle and rewarding in equal measure. Which is probably what keeps bringing me back to them. Some days i swear the trout can see me getting out of the car...

@@thedalesangler I had a couple of instances like that, they see everything and hear everything don’t they ??😆 I’d still happily waste another day being tormented by them 👍

There is something unique / different about the older Hardy reels compared to modern versions despite being manufactured in England. Beautiful spot and nice GB!!

Let the cane take the strain 👍 maybe one day I'll get to try a "superfast".

You know it makes sense Chris. Those little Devon rivers of yours will suit a Bannister perfectly!
