Bringing you our early morning guinea pig care routine, new for 2021! This covers every part of what I do to look after the piggies in the morning, plus (of course!) some handy tips on guinea pig care and how you can improve your own care routines.
With this routine in the morning, I’ve found it really helps make sure that some of the daily tasks get done, in a way that’s easy to fit around my other morning activities. Things like changing the water, sweeping up the poops and guinea pig snacks don't get forgotten about, which the piggies are chuffed about! Hi Sarah, Your routine is very similar to mine in the morning with the piggies! On a non-piggy note, I'm impressed by how much Christmas chocolate you still have left and I also love crumpets for breakfast and I'm with you on the Marmite too-it's great :-) Phoebe was very cute with her drinking and loved the cucumber stealing from the top of the hammock-little monkeys!! Love this routine video! They are just so cute and it is always fun to hear wheeking and I could watch a piggy drink all day (I know, weird! But it is always just so adorable and I love the unique piggy drinking - I had some that would bite the water bottle, some that did the upside down like Phoebe, some that were dainty, all kinds of ways!). I had to get up at around 6 when I was regular working (I am at home too - I see you are experiencing those gray, rainy days like I am right now - ugh! Always makes me want to go back to bed!), the pigs always knew it was time for waking up and they would start their peeping and wheeking and zoomies and running back and forth. They knew they were gonna get hay and pellets and water right away and then veggies in a bit after I showered for work. They would still be wheeking sometimes with food in their mouth. LOL The funniest is they would do the same on the weekend even though I could sleep in. Never got to sleep late!

Absolutely loved this! I was delighted with all the piggy ‘thought bubbles’, I love this in piggy vlogs and you do it brilliantly. Already some great new ideas for feeding hay and using the pads, lots and lots to add to the ideas list for preparation for adopting a herd. I always thought I was a cat (ok Maine coon) and dog (ok, Labrador) person but how come I didn’t notice how wonderful piggies are?! I’m coeliac but I’ve got a great brand of GF crumpets (or pikelets as I know them but I live in Scotland so that’s a whole separate discussion!) and I can’t have proper Marmite now but Tesco’s own brand is safe for coeliacs. So yup, crumpets and Marmite gets a paws up from me! ☺️

Phoebe is a doll! So PRECIOUS! They're all SO sweet, and that Lyra is a beauty! I finished cleaning my cage about an hour ago, but my spot cleaning takes ALOT longer, the big spot clean is my late evening job, but since I have bedding in about a third of my cage, I scoop out quite a bit, then wash a part of their coroplast tray with solution, and replace it with clean kiln-dried pine, then proceed to replace some of the potty pads and smaller liners. Then pellets, water bottles, and snack. In the morning it's just a basic poop sweep, and some fresh hay, although I sometimes scoop out some dirty bedding areas if need be. It is pretty time consuming, but they're so sweet, especially when my oldest piggy Gracie, who just turned 4, creeps into a tunnel right next to me, and looks lovingly at me while I clean, I think they're worth it!

I recently found my my love for guinea pigs! I'm a property manager and I found a guinea pig in the trash can at my property. Yes you read that correctly 🤦. I've had him for a couple months and because of channels like yours I have learned how to properly take care of him! Today I adopted his brother! Their names are Doby and Creature 🧦. Mine like banana skins but not the actual banana. I do a major clean every morning after walking the dogs. Its amazing how quickly they make a mess again. Glad its not just mine!

If I were to get a guinea pig I would have a morning routine or try to have somewhat of a daily routine. I definitely want pigs but I want them ik there a ton of work but I like a challenge and work lol. Ik they would be a ton of work daily but I am ready for it and definitely want to and am willing to.

I love your videos thank you so much for making them. I haven’t had piggies since I was a child and they lived outside and probably got left to it! We are getting 2 boy piggies in a few weeks and like yours they will be indoor piggies and loved very much. Do you give them any more veg throughout the day? I’m worried I’ll over feed them or underfeed them! I intend to use natural forage from our breeder instead of pellets and will have hay on supply too, but the fresh stuff im not 100% with! Thank you.

You can really never over feed a guinea pig. they always need food on stock or they will eat it quick! 😂

Our routine is a little different because I have the school run, and all the chaos of getting 2 primary age kids out the door! I do a quick check at 8am, but the rest of the sweep up/water/hay etc after my coffee at about half 9. I always make sure they have everything clean and topped up before bed so they're fine for a few extra hours in the morning 🙂

Morning, really enjoy your videos and especially this latest one. I have a question, your main big cage liner.. What is it and how often do you change it? I have big cage liners which I've made they are a layer or fleece then towelling then waterproof backing. I'm finding they are taking so long to dry so I'm wondering what you use. I saw you dry yours on a radiator, I unfortunately don't have one big enough 😔 I was considering taking off the waterproof backing to allow more air flow and heat as its the towelling that takes longest to dry. Sorry for the long comment lol Love all your piggies, I have 8 in 2 c and c cages. I use a big liner then fluffy bath mats on top, I shake out the bath mats every day and wash every 3/4 days or so and then clean the main liner weekly

Thank you so much! The liner is a waterproof mattress protector (the kind with a very thin layer of towelling/absorbent material on the reverse), then a polyester/cotton mix mattress protector (cheap, super lightweight one), then fleece. I do find them easier to wash/dry than more absorbent ones. I use pads around the cage which I change out more often in the hotspot areas! I have tutorial videos for how I made my liners and pads which might help 😃🌻
