I think you came up on a recent Swift Silver Mine hunter's camp. The Sunset arch is considered a key landmark in the legend along with Rock Bridge. Mrs. Rebecca Timmins was a Swift Mine hunter from the 1880s and the arch was named after her. It's a very old KY legend, one of the oldest treasure legends of America. There are newspapers articles from that era in the Library of Congress online that tell about her explorations and discoveries. Nice hike...yes Swift Camp Creek is named after Jonathan Swift...Campton was named for the supposed place he set up his mining camp, there is a plaque at the courthouse there. Neat tidbit of history for ya!

Love it! Early morning Sunset! I couldn't imagine what you were getting at, but having watched the video, I get it now. Take care of the cramping in your foot. Make sure you're not getting dehydrated & make sure your magnesium levels are good.

I usually stay well hydrated, not sure what brought on the cramp. My feet/legs cramp from time to time but usually not while I’m out on trail.

Hey D Rob! Enjoy your stuff just like Cane and David. Gunna say....there's a cool arch nearby where you was...un named I suppose. But its pretty cool. Some body was living in it....and above it was a homemade liquor still. You can get to it either by following the last high finger to the right on wilcat.....or keep walking the way you was. Just before dogcreek...to the right go up to the high point and you'll see it. It's at the end of a narrow high ridge above. Preciate you...God bless

Could you imagine the off trailing we could do without the rhododendrons. Really cool video my friend. 👍🏻👍🏻

It would be a lot more enjoyable! Lol If you ever get the chance to go backpack/off trail at Mammoth Cave, there’s no rhodo there and it is great! Thanks man!

Seems like you took a longer route to Sunset Arch than I did, I went straight up the hillside below the arch, touch fight up the hill for sure.. on map it looked like you could possibly follow the cliffside from Wildcat Trail but I felt like it'd be a tougher fight to the arch.. I was curious what was along the cliffside on the opposite side from where I went up

Well, I went around to the far side to start and then wound up going up to the arch at the same spot you did. You definitely earn that arch lol
