Hello, my name is Dustin Robinson, known as D.Rob to most people. I'm an avid hiker and amateur photographer. This channel is to take you along on my adventures and share some hiking/photography knowledge when I can. A subscribe is greatly appreciated and I hope you enjoy the content of this channel!
Wow split bow is beautiful, can really tell why it was named that. The graffiti makes me want to throw up. Absolute scumbag behavior. Problem is you can't really stop that because from this person's F'd up moral viewpoint they don't think they did anything wrong.
I appreciate the shout out my friend! When the temps get back to reasonable we need to hit a few waterfalls. Enjoy watching your videos and following along in your adventures.
I need to put split bow arch on my list, it looks amazing. Thanks for braving the heat and bugs for us. I hope you kilt'em all. A great video and cool pics, we'll see ya in the Red.
Thanks Jim! It’d been on my to do list for a long time. The bad part about the hike in in the dark is you don’t see the spiderwebs until you’re already in most of them lol
Plan on doing a video to Red Byrd when the cold months get here. The best/easiest route is from Calaboose Ridge. I think the unofficial trailhead shows up on Google. A lot of the hike is following old road beds but be prepared for lots of downfall. Have a good map or gps, you follow the ridge all the way out until you’re close to the arch, then you head downhill to it. There’s a user trail, not sure how worn it is, I’ve not been there in about a year.
@@ExploringWithDRob thank you very much that will help me a lot to find it, i been going to the gorge for years now, still a lot of arches ain't seen yet that I'd love to see, wanna see the Indian arch and adenas arch but my wife has ankle issues and she can't do the Indian staircase, can i ask if there's another way to Indian arch without going up Indian staircase so she can see it, and do you have any idea if they've decommissioned the cloud splitter yet really wanted to see that before they did, my wife refuses that one 🤣🤣🤣 but that one's gonna be a treat to myself if they didn't decommissioned it yet, it really makes me sad that some people can't go and see this magnificent place without causing destruction, and or leaving graffiti on these rocks, like you said in you're video they are an eyesore and takes the essence of the naturallity out of what one should see, and leaving trash they're the reasons these amazing places are getting closed, thank you a lot for the reply and the help on directions on the red Byrd, I've watched all you videos and I have them saved on playlists, they've been more helpful finding these spots than any other resources because you take time to point out every detail, things to look for to guide ones adventure, and looking forward to another video, have a good one I'll speak to you if i ever run into ya on one of the trails,🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
To my knowledge, CloudSplitter is still accessible, heavily trafficked trail up to it. To get to Indian Arch, start at Bison Way trailhead. Take it til it intersects with the Sheltowee Trace. At that intersection you’ll see a sign that points right to corner ridge and left to the Red River. Make a left and follow the Sheltowee towards the Red River. Indian Arch is right along the trail roughly 1.5 miles from that intersection. To get to Adena Arch, follow the Sheltowee Trace past Indian Arch to the top of the hill. The Sheltowee will continue to the right. But to get to Adena Arch, you’ll see a heavily trafficked user trail to the left. Follow that trail out to Adena Arch. Afterwards, follow that trail back out to the Sheltowee and then just follow the trail out the same way you came in, make an out and back trip out of it. Hope that helped. And appreciate you watching/enjoying the videos, thanks for watching!
@@ExploringWithDRob your welcome! It most certainly helped that was more info than I could find anywhere else much appreciated have a good one 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I hashtag #Hike(Number) on Facebook posts. Then I’ll say something about my hike that day in the post as well. I don’t keep up with any other stats like miles or anything tho.
Great Video D_Rob! I ran into you and your group the other day as you were coming out of Hanson's Point. Thanks for the quick chat and picture. Enjoyed your video.
Thanks for all your hard work on the videos. I’m no longer able to hike anymore. I remember one time I was there with a friend. We caught a good sunrise like that. It was spectacular. Brings back memories.
The Finger Lakes Region is loaded with awesome spots. Watkins Glen is a must see when in that area, I’ve been twice and can’t wait to revisit! Thanks for watching!
Part of the proposal was that it would go to $10 per night per site with an $8 reservation fee for backcountry camping. Is that being implemented as well?
I hadn’t heard much lately on the backcountry camping fees. They are still talking about creating designated areas, and would it be $8/night/person or just for that camp?
I didn’t see anything about a reservation fee. The fees they had listed was $10/night for backcountry sites, $15/night for front country sites and $35-$55/night for large group sites.
Do you know how the meeting on June 11th went? I am ok with paying a little more to help support the area, I know it needs it. I also liked the idea of locals getting a discount, that seems pretty common in areas.
I heard there wasn’t much of a turn out. I reckon they pretty much just went over what we’ve seen posted about the new fees and then had some Q&A afterwards. They definitely need the revenue from day use areas but they need to put that money to work instead of it going in somebody’s pocket. I think it’s dumb that money from parking tickets goes to something besides Forest Service, I feel like that’s why parking ain’t enforced like it should be. If they enforced a lot of the things that’s already in place there would be no need to add new stuff.
@@ExploringWithDRob Are you saying the parking fines don’t go to the Forest Service? That doesnt seem right. I hope the money goes where it should as well. Not right otherwise.
Yeah parking fines go toward some kind of fund that’s not related to Forest Service. I’ve seen it mentioned but I can’t remember right off what the fund is that it goes to. All of the new proposed fees for parking/camping will be money going to the Forest Service.
@@ExploringWithDRob In my experience once getting a ticket for parking illegally at Auxier we mailed the check to like Washington DC or Philadelphia or something. It definitely seemed like it was going to Uncle Sam and not the NFS. Edit: in case someone is mad at me this was before they put up all of the signage clearly marking where to park and not park at Auxier Ridge trailhead
A lot of people feel the same way you do. But, this is much needed revenue for the Forest Service, I’m surprised they hadn’t tried the day use thing years ago honestly.
It'll be interesting to see how the new pay system works out. In the past, I've gotten a yearly pass to hang when I'm on an overlook in the middle of the night for some nightscape photography. This avoids a ticket even though I'm not camping. With going to day passes for day use, and reserved camp sites at night, I'm not sure where that leaves me.
The hang tags are for day use parking/overnight parking. The new system will require both paying for the hang tag and paying for camping. So for you, since you’re not camping, you’ll just have to pay for the hang tag like you’ve always done.
@@admay316 It seems that way that we will pay for both. The Smokys implemented parking fees and now we need both a parking permit and backcountry campsite permit. Backcountry camping permits went from $4 to $8 per night and i have to get a $15 parking pass. I feel like this is going to turn a lot of people away from nature and backpacking but I guess that is what they want. Either NC or TN specifically have laws against putting tolls on the roads through GSMNP but this is sort of a loop hole they are going to enjoy. They even admit it won't necessarily help with overcrowded trailheads, you aren't guaranteed a parking spot if you're backpacking. I guess this is the world we're living in inflation is hitting every aspect of our lives.
@@fernwogteveril6935 Is camping only going to be allowed in reserved spots, and all other locations banned? If so, that could be a tough one to enforce.
@@admay316 Designated sites like the smokys was part of the proposal. Not sure what they have officially decided to implement. I agree they dont even enforce people camping right on Auxier ridge, no way they will go off trail looking for someone. I'll be pretty bummed if that does get implemented, it totally goes against the spirit of D Boone.
Thanks for the info. Hocking hills State Park is so busy that they are adding free shuttle service from Logan, Ohio, on weekends. Hope RRG does not get that crazy busy.
Lmfao!! Im heading out to RRG this afternoon! If you like beef jerky swing by Daniel Boone Coffee Shop and pick up some Breaking Trail Beef Jerky 10 flavors all 100% smoked beef jerky with no artificial flavors or seasoning!!
I’ve been doing a lot of hiking at the gorge lately but haven’t been on this trail yet. I’ll definitely have to add this one to my list in the next few weeks.
My buddy's going down to the gorge for the first time ever and this (plus the falls) is one of a few hikes I suggested to him. Off the beaten path enough, but nothing too crazy. What are your thoughts on the gorge considering charging for admission? I discussed this with Life of David, but I like the idea as long as it is very streamlined to get a pass and there are no lines to get into the park waiting to get checked. If I can buy the pass online and it's checked in the same way as camping passes, then I think it's a great idea. It might keep traffic on the trails down and keep some of the riff raff out. What do you think? And thanks as always!
In my opinion the forest service has been missing out on a lot of funding by not making some of the trailheads day use for a long time. It’s way overdue. It’s not admission to the gorge, it’s for parking at the high traffic trailheads. There will still be a lot of parking areas that you don’t have to pay to park. As far as getting passes, they’re the same passes you get at the gas stations or wherever for parking overnight now. If you’re a regular to RRG I’d highly recommend buying the annual pass, that way you make a one time purchase and you’re covered as far as parking for the year. Most day use areas will usually have paper tags and envelopes where you can pay with cash and drop it in a locked box at the trailheads too. I don’t camp, but the camping charges is what’s dumb to me. And part of plan is to decommission unofficial user trails and campsites too. A lot of people disagree with me on this, but I think they’re setting the area up to eventually turn it into a national park. If they’ll police the area and ticket people, it’ll cut out on the riff raff. But if they don’t police it any better than the way things are now, they’ll still be an abundance of riff raff. I’m hoping it cuts down on the riff raff tho because it’s getting quite ridiculous especially on weekends.
Hi Rob. Wow, another beautiful waterfall, Dogslaughter...what? why? dogs laughter? Do you know how the name is originated? Is there trail marking down to the waterfall??? It looks quite steep to the waterfall. hahah Without that fallen tree, is looks brand new to YOU?haha Kayak7seas and I scrambling a little to Gravyard waterfall in Blueridge last weekend. OMGoodness lack of marking...somebody made an arrow marking with rock on the ground or a sign was left with a rock on the ground. Thought funny. well done Rob. See you next one' Somebody in my community mentioned about KY hike in the future and I recommended your channel. Wandering out Yonder
The waterfall is named after the creek the falls is on. There is trail markers to the falls, the areas where the trail zig zags down hill they’re a lot closer together. I need to visit the Graveyard Fields waterfalls you mentioned, I’ve not been to those yet. Thanks for mentioning the channel, I appreciate it and thanks for always watching!
Great video footage, we’ve been there many different times over the years. It’s been awhile since we have been there so it’s really good to watch your videos. Great memories
Hi Rob, Oh Virtual Hike? From my perspective, I would rather listen to your documentary with your humor. You have so much information within YOU, hahahah If you desire to produce a virtual hike vid, You may select cinematic music, I would say. Right music grab the mood in the footage, I believe. I have never hiked this trail. At first glance, I thought of that iconic Natural Bridge that you have done long before. There are so many natural bridges anyway. I wanted to thank you for producing the video of Natural Bridge. Finally, I made it. OMGoodness, so many PPL were there.I had to wait 10 mins or more to take my turn to get through FAT MAN'S SQUEEZE.hahahahah It was my terrible mistake to hike it on Sunday. I could not take the hiking trail you ended up farther, but I enjoy Rock Garden and such short hikes. Wow It was tough to get back up through a lot of stone steps. Great work-out. I wish you good luck on your new project. Would you mind to watching and leave some feedback on the vid at Kayak7seas. I would like to know how we can make achievement for the future.
Hundreds of arches to be found in Red River Gorge for sure. Natural Bridge is always super busy on the weekends where it’s a state park. Beautiful area of the Fall if you ever get up that way then. I’ve been behind on RU-vid, I’ll try to get over there and catch your newest adventures! Thanks for watching!
You and David must have went to the same school, I just found your site and heard you talking I had to smile real big because you sound just like David.
@@ExploringWithDRob Yeah. Back when Rockcastle had three high schools. LOL. That was a long time ago. I still wish it had 3 high schools as the students were better educated as there were less students per class rooms. I really liked your videos. I found David about a 6 or 7 months ago. You guys are really great about getting out in nature. Today I went to 5 falls with only one listed on the KyWaterfalls site. It was a great day to be out.
Ah I see, if Granville and Chris are your sons, I graduated the same year as Chris. Glad you enjoy the videos, I enjoy being out in nature and waterfalls are my favorite thing to photograph. There’s a lot of waterfalls that are documented but not on kywaterfalls for various reasons. Sometimes the people who submit will submit them for documentation purposes but don’t want the location made public. Or sometimes they’re private property or like several in Rockcastle that spill into caves, they don’t make cave locations public.
@@ExploringWithDRob Yep. You got me, Granville Jr. and Chris are my sons. I like to be outside but my age slows me down. I like watch videos that actually shows places. You all be careful out and about as this is 'Snake Season'. Keep putting the videos up.
It seems a lot of people like what the tree added to the falls. I guess maybe I like it log less cause that’s how I was use to seeing it my first 6-7 visits.
I happened across your video by accident and have to say I was very impressed with the compositions and quality of your photos. I'm planning a waterfall chasing trip next week and this one certainly made the list. With all the rain we've had this year, all the waterfalls should be flowing nicely. I've lived in Virginia most of my life and this was the first time I've heard of this waterfall. Keep up the great photography.
Thanks I appreciate that! I’d suggest getting there early for this one because it’s a popular swimming hole. The day I was there between people at the falls when I was leaving and people I passed on the trail, there was no doubt over 100 people. Hope you have a good waterfall trip, a lot of nice falls in VA. Thanks for watching!
I ran into you today at Toad's. You're right the smashburger was great! I wish had remember to do skybridge counterclock wise, the stairs are rough. It was nice meeting you, keep the videos coming.😀
It was nice to meet ya and put a face with the name. You’ll known to do that loop counter clockwise next time lol Getting into the hot months but I’ll try to stay regular with the videos, thanks for always watching!
