Early Oscar Predictions 2025 | Best Adapted Screenplay 

I feel like next year oscars is so stacked yet so free at the same time. All the actresses in leading role are going for each others necks while other categories are just having a spa day 😭

I was thinking "Why is he not mentioning The Life of Chuck? The Academy seems to like non-horror King adaptations [Stand by Me, Shawshank, Green Mile] so why not this one?" Then I found out it isn't gonna get a wide release until summer 2025 and it all made sense. lol

All of us in Brazil are hoping Fernanda Torres can get the redemption for her mother Fernanda Montenegro in Central Station

My top5: 1. Nickel Boys (winner) - It's a important movie, Ross is the director-writer 2. Conclave 3. Sing Sing 4. Dune Part 2 5. I'm Still Here I don't feel writers branch will go for Emilia Pérez. That's my Killers of the flower Moon this year, missing BAFTA nom and then also the Oscars. At some point everyone was predicting KOTFM to win Adapted Screenplay and I was like "oh that's not happening"

Bryan, i have a question. Why are musicals such a big deal breaker at the oscars, specially for categories like adapted screenplay to the point you rule out emilia perez as a winner because of its musical elements?

Quick reminder: The Substance won best screenplay at Cannes. Ongoing thought: Insane story that borrows from classics, but is its own beast.

Ralph Fiennes Deserves an Oscar, hopefully the conclave will be the movie that finally got him one. It’s a shame that he didn’t All those years ago For Schindler’s list. I do hope that Austin Butler gets an Oscar for best supporting role. He was amazing in Dune part 2. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised that Dune part two would the film That receive best picture awards.

My current predictions are almost the same, but I have A Complete Unknown in 5th and Emilia Perez in 6th. We shall see.

It is suprising indeed about the lack of noms for Almodovar over his rich career. He was at the Oscars for his first nominated film Women of the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, even though not nomination for him for it and same when All About my Mother won the Oscar - he, rightly so, was there to collect it - again not nominated but come on, they are Almodovar films.

I know a lot of folks are thinking "Emilia Perez" vs "Conclave" - but I still think the story of how "Sing Sing" came together, between the inciting news articles and its adjacency to real-life events, a pseudo-documentary approach, will make this category the spot they can reward this film.

Dune will clearly be nominated and most likely win. Coming out early in the year don’t mean anything as long as it’s memorable and a great film and majority of the audiences and critics liked or loved it, which they did. Because everything everywhere all at once and get out came out early in the year and those both won screenplay. Not to mention the grand butapest hotel coming out in February or March of its year and getting nominated for that as well as picture and director like get out and EEAAO. So that excuse is out the window if anyone believes that still. Only reason it’s harder is because most critics are too lazy to watch movies earlier in the year or have their own personal bias towards or against a film. But dune 2 was world wide beloved and memorable.

I was so grateful that Sing Sing was one of the Regal Monday Mystery Movies otherwise I probably wouldn’t have seen it. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts once you finally do watch it. It was my favorite movie of the year before The Substance came out.

Some of the movies aren't out for us mere humans. Such as the Conclave, which I'm not sure I want to see another "Pope is dead and we need to pick a new one" cliche. But it's getting good buzz. Can't wait to see some of the movies to come.

What about Wicked, Pt. 1? This could be an amazing film if they do it right. Yes, it's a musical, and yes it's Pt. 1 of 2 parts, but if they nail it, this could really be something magical. Wicked is so beloved by audiences that the film could be a major blockbuster hit and could be a critical success as well.
