Hey do u think it might have been the jb weld u filled the transfers with seeing how it's gooey?? Or is that how they come? I really didn't notice when I put my cylinder on
When you take it out of the rod you can feel how weak it is. I haven't even ran mine yet because im waiting for bushings that I just got in the mail. Hope to finally fit it on💪💪
So watching this I decided I should probably check my engine just on the off chance that something was amiss as I was beginning to hear some chittering coming from my engine. Well, good thing I did. The cylinder is scarred, the piston is scarred, apparently my wrist pin retaining clips are shot and I caught everything one step away from total engine failure. Thank you for this video! You just saved my engine and my wallet. New cylinder has arrived. New piston will be in soon, and hopefully I will be back on the road again singing along within the next week. I can't thank you enough for your videos and everything that you do. Please keep making them, you're likely saving more people than just me!
Had mine running for 5 hours then bushing failed and window piston broke. Still on 4:1 break in fuel called getting a new one with the new bushing in it. Thank god for warrantys
I've just bought the phantom 85 gen 3. I installed it today. When I assembled it I used STP oil treatment on all of the moving parts including the rings wrist pin bearing and lower rod and main bearings. I love STP oil treatment, I use it on my chain as well. It is thick like honey. When I received my phantom 85 it had the sticker on the clutch cover that indicated it was a V2. My engine came with a needle bearing for the wrist pin, which indicates that it is a V3. I guess they realize that the version one and version 2 were failing with the parts that were provided so they went into all of their boxes that were ready to ship and included the needle bearing. I also noticed that the cooling fins on the engine are very small and insignificant compared to my ld100. I had an old plastic fender that I cut in half and made pretty good looking fairings out of them that direct air onto the motor. I know that the top end is modeled after the ms460. It looks like an exact replica which means that it would require a housing around it and a cooling fan to supply continuous air. Well I just put it together today and put about an hour of run time on it with a 16 to 1 ratio, with a little smidgen extra oil too. Extra oil cannot hurt. I have experimented with a two-stroke weed eater. It can almost run on pure oil with no fuel. Extra oil can never hurt. I have a spark plug that is completely filled with carbon on the inside where the electrode is. It hasn't found out yet and it's still running. When I swapped it for a new one I noticed a decrease in power. I think that little bit of space that that carbon filled in the spark plug increased compression. I'll be riding it to work in the morning. It seems like a very strong and smooth motor compared to the ld100. Oh well good night smooth sailing..
Wow that is too bad. I'm sure the manufacturer will handle this properly. After all, there are a lot of eyes watching this video and lots of discussion on this in forums, etc. to motivate them.
I used my engine for about 5 hours then the bottom end locked up. Once I took the engine apart, I believe it was pieces of the bushing got into my crank bearings causing my failure. The wrist pin was in but because the bushing shelled, my piston was rocking side by side instead of just front and back like it should rock back and forth. Bicycle Engines is sending out a new motor to me once the new parts show up to get upgraded
Dang... We will never know. Sorry the motor let you down. We all were waiting for that top speed run.🏁 Hopefully the Phantom 2.0 brings you better luck. I was thinking 42 mph + with that setup.
I thought useing bushing rist pins went out of style in the 60s.and everyone went to needle bearings because the problem you had. Running 20 and 32 to 1 oil mix is not enought oil for a bushing. Some companys used to have a small hole drilled through the rod from the rist pin to the rod bearing to bring more oil to the bushing. Most of the motors that used bushings in their motors for ristpin or any other bearing used a 16to 1 oil mix. Mabe its just me, but useing that chainsaw head/cylinder with the head fins faceing the wrong way doesnt help anything.that was designed to have a fan cooling it. I would think that motor is running to hot. Its to bad your having a problem. Sounds like its a nice running bike. Hope you get your problem resolved.
I agree that the small end could do with a needle roller bearing. As for the head fin direction. This was designed for ducted forced air cooling. Changing the direction to inline, front to back, will help with the cooling.
my buddies only lasted a week till it blew, I took it apart and the piston(window part) was gone, the wrist pin bushing was in peace's . a huge gouge in the intake port. the jug is pretty much toast. He said he was going to contact the company to see if they will replace it.
Oh no! Are we seeing mineralli conversion kit soon? It's a torque monster you could always go with an eBay knock-off carburetor u going love it and for ur new bike
@@LAHover ;) just don't have your seat high because that's going to knock you back" ur going get scared the first time you get it started if you run no exhaust , u need to make one :/ ? Hope u know how or got a welder person
LA Hover would you ever be willing to review a motorized bike from Sportsman Flyers. They build board track style bikes and I barely see any reviews on them. I’d love to see you buy one and turn it into some speed demon. My dream is to one day become a board track racer but I can’t get my hands on anything.
What what's up la I've been using brass piston sleeve they work great there is no rattling in your engine when you use these and they're cheap online nothing can come apart on them you'll be amazed try it out. Staten Island New York oh and I always want your show keep it up .
8:11 i think it whould be a good thing to test taking of the material that goes from the transfers to que crank case to increase flow to get much more performance because flow is one of the things that maters the most, or at least round it all so you dont take out too much primary compression
So taking the top end apart and the piston off is relatively easy? You don't need a ring compressor or anything? Never messed with a 2 stroke engine but I have torn apart and re-assembled a 2.0 and a 2.2 liter fuel injected car motor. These motors seem very simple. I am not trying to risk it though. Thanks you have a interesting channel.
Wow so disapointing . Ive shyed away from these engine because i could tell the manufacterers didnt take us serious and sad to hear it carries over to the moto85 . If they can be reliable and consistantly manufactured consistantly i will buy 1 . I wish Japan would notice us and make them . My Zanoah G430 has 2.2k miles and runs better than when new . Only had to change fuel lines in the 2 1/2 yrs ive ran it .
Now, that is what you call ''Breaking it In''. Can you not fit the needle roller bearing instead of the bush. Waiting for the follow up on how they are going to address the issue.
I think they already knew about it that’s why they pulled them so fast I think they were just using people for a test subjects but like you I really want one of these motors
sadly I was one of the first but I barley got 20miles on mine before it locked up my piston rings. They sent me a replacement but waiting on bushings still.
Hey. I got a question. Do you think an expansion chamber would improve the Zeda 100’s power band as I’m looking for an exhaust or would another exhaust better improve the power and top end. Thanks in advance.
If I have a genuine speed carb and a g2 reed valve and window my own piston on my pk80 with a g4 cylinder and high compression head and f2 thrust exhaust how good will my performance be
On most motor I have found that they will normally do 30-35mph without vibration being a big issue. Some will even do 40mph relatively smooth. Past 40mph most will need a balanced crank. If you are having vibration issues under 30mph it is likely caused by one or both of the following. Carburetor needle is set to rich, and/or at poorly mounted motor. Those are only the most common issues, but there are more.
Wow, I dont even understand how that bushing could have worn so drastically so fast! Inferior materials maybe? I mean, it was tight when it went in right? I think we all saw it. Yikes. I think it needs to be made from bronze but bronze isnt expensive, Hmm, I wonder what it is actually made out of to wear like that?
I've heard bushing can be effectively used in high power motors. So I'm guessing it was just a matter them choosing the wrong kind of metal... Updated version is on the way.
Seriously? No 'roller bearing' wrist-pin?I lightly filled my wrist-pin bearing, and coated the cylinder walls with Molybdinum grease,on a regular 3x40.Who'd run a solid pin on an engine without oil bath of a 4-stroke?That's the same connecting rod as a 66,yet the piston's that wide, right? Not Your Fault. You did everything right. The piston looks like it can hold 2 roller bearings?
I would think out of all the small engines out there, there'd be a roller bearing & wrist pin the correct size. I guess not, which is why the Phantom uses a bushing instead of a bearing?
I'm still new to reeds so I can't say much. Be sure to check for air leaks b4 trying to tune the carb. Allot more gaskets to deal with on a reed block.
@@LAHover yeah I think if I tighten everything down properly it will be fine also can I run a pZ20 or whatever carb you had on your phantom on my pk80 80cc build
@@LAHover was there a lot of play I. Bottom with the crank weights these were big ass chunks any clue what would cause that to happen my wrist pain and everything up in the Piston was good
Are there any legit companies who will ship a motor that you don't have to take apart, that doesn't have any defects? Lawn mower companies, chainsaw companies, scooter companies, they somehow have figured out a way to send a motor out of the factory that doesn't need screwing with and that doesn't shrapnel itself. Is there anybody reputable out there? Doesn't seem that there's any other ready-made product I can think of on the market that seems to have so many issues and pre-installation rebuilding.
Smolikey performance and all them really good company who invest their times and are interests are the ones u want to do biz with. Bicycle engines is a second hand dealer who are just trying to make profit they don't care about our safety or what performs good they just want to profit
The lady Megan and Molly and there's some other lady her name begins with an M2 which sounds kind of funny it's like they're playing games and trying to give you the runaround so you don't know who you're speaking to but I have her on the phone recording telling me that it's their fault because they didn't send out no pamphlet on a specifications and how to break engines in and now because I'm trying to get my stuff replaced with these people don't want to get back to me that company is trash don't be fooled by all the positive reviews on their page they're probably deleting all the negative ones but that company is trash
