IMPORTANT:
Getting a good start with therapy after an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is very important. This video should help patients get started with some simple exercises to work on range of motion and early re-activation of the quadriceps muscle. The rehab in this video is geared toward the early phases of rehab after surgery (within the first 2 - 3 weeks or so). However, the exercises here can be used at any time point after surgery.
These exercises have been selected due to the very low strain across the new ACL graft as demonstrated in various studies.
As always, be sure to check with your surgeon regarding the postop rehab plan. In many cases, an ACL surgery will include repairs of other structures like the meniscus or other ligaments which may influence the rehab and come with their own precautions.
