April 13th I went to the river which was rising but surprisingly clear. I started off with nymphs but changed over to the streamer and the trout were keen to take it.
awesome! I've only dabbled with the streamers so far, but hope to give them a go when the the rivers are up a bit. good luck with the channel, I've only managed to get one big un on camera so far! noticed you fish it very fast!
@@nymphingnewt7639 yes, I've got the impression it's at its best when the river is out of sorts for more delicate methods! I've dabbled with 3" lures in my local river, I've had larger than average fish but that's not saying much! 😂
Really enjoyed that mate. Some healthy looking fisher there. Have you found the sink tip /down and across style of streamer fishing more effective that up river French nymphing with streamers? Keep the videos going 👍
Thanks mate, I personally catch more/ biggger fish casting across and slightly down than fishing them on a “euro” setup, although when the rivers are lower in the summer micro streamers fished euro style works really well 👍🏻
Hi Graham, I’ve stopped doing them for the time being. I’m struggling for time at the moment even for my own flies. I fished them on the wear last year during the day and had loads of sea trout chase them but just couldn’t connect. There’s a lad in Ireland who sells them on his site streamerfishing.com/
I hear some say that water cold, early season, trout conserving energy and will be lethargic. You then get others saying.....trout are a cold water species, more active as the water cools etc! Notice you stripping the flies pretty quickly. Whos right?
It depends on the day really, I’ll mix it up to find out how they want it (fast or slow) but if they want it they’ll chase it and eat it. So I can’t say any are right or wrong as the fish will decide.
@@nymphingnewt7639 I just go out with one rod and will use it for all methods. Might not be ideal, but better than carrying other rods and extra weight and hassle and I'd worry about them getting damaged or lost ( or stolen! ) etc I can see why you like streamers but surely you must fish dryfly??
@@carlhughes9584 absolutely I fish dry fly, but this season I’ve tried to concentrate on streamer fishing. But if I see a good fish rising I’ll cast a dry to it, apart from early season we haven’t had much rising on my local rivers but now we’re coming to autumn the dry fly normally picks up 🤞🏻👍🏻
@@nymphingnewt7639 Can see why you love streamers so much if it catches such quality fish. What is the weight of the head on the lure? For example is it heavier than a 5 mm tungsten bead?
@@carlhughes9584 I’m using the fulling mill tungsten dumbbell eyes mainly in medium which is probably the equivalent of a 10mm tungsten bead so canny heavy. I’ve got some jig streamers what I use on my nymph rod with 4.6mm tungsten beads and they work really well 👍🏻
