I bought this car over three years ago from a remote Kansas field for parts. After seeing the vin number I didn't have the heart to tear it apart. That's 475 of 1.8 million produced. I'm pretty certain it was a one family car.
1960 Corvairs are the most unique from other years (60-69) and the 80HP engine was the smoothest running due to the shorter stroke.
In 64 the rear suspension was modified making it my favorite year for it's fun cornering..
In 65 the Corvair got a totally independent rear suspension which improved handling beyond many (most) modern cars today. Some people refer to it as "The Corvette's rear suspension" but in reality it was designed for the Corvair first - but subsequently the Corvette got it first.
Driving a 66 on to the freeway via any 4-leaf clover you'll leave the traffic far behind. No unmodified solid axle Chevelle or Mustang could handle the inertia at the speeds the Corvair enjoys.
I know I'm not any good with these videos but after all the editing I learned one thing here which is to prepare better for the shots!! So the new material (not including loads of material already shot for near future videos) will be significantly better..
That said;;;
My intention here was to see if it's worth going the rest of the way with this Corvair "Caveman Corvair" as the club members refer to the 1960 model year. But this one is actually decent to make a driver out of as the main unibody structure is not bad at all. This would be an excellent candidate for rotisserie body work. 1st week of production Corvair from the Kansas City plant. Although the Kansas City plant started production weeks after Willow Run.
I was soo pleased to see the engine totally quieted down after the oil change (later video). No lifter noise what so ever. There's more work done on this car so I'll try to get those videos up soon..
This car is available for sale and you won't be disappointed!

If you love Corvairs I suggest you buy this book. It's excellent and shows how automotive culture was entirely changed after the debut of the Corvair. It's quit an amazing story and corrects many of the myths we Corvair drivers have to endure at every fill up at the gas station.. "Let me tell you someting about these cars" - lol
Help us offset our costs and time with products like this one - Heavy Duty Metal Protector - has many uses - farmers buy it by the case. A step up from Fluid Film - leaves a corrosion resistant coating (under coat) which is why my 66 Corvair's underbody looks like new.. Excellent replacement for grease in areas like linkage, door locks (freeze protection), hinges and lightly loaded chains.

Or the red can you saw in the engine bay - the lighter version which is a penetrating oil which displaces moisture, can be used on electrical systems (refurbishing headlight switches and such) and just makes work easy all around the house. I use it as a chain cleaner and to loosen up old hardened grease where you can't apply water based cleaners.
