"myth" only implies "untrue" in its popular usage. In academia, "myth" is simply a way of describing stories that explain the world, so the use of myth is in no way dismissive. It is, in fact, used of all creation stories.
Yes it does, human can't actually know how long Earth has been here, we weren't here during Dinosaurs or earlier. And it does lot more sense than having our planet on the back of some giant mystical space turtle.
this made me very happy to read, I agree!! this is not myth.. this is history and culture, this man titles it myth, and that destroys the beauty and the meaning.
@@AxelWalters the word myth is used for all creation stories, including Christian. It's the proper term, it doesn't mean the same thing it means in popular usage.
We have evidence from many fields of science that all point to the same story. The earth is 4.54 billion years old. We can know things that we weren't around for.
well the book i have about this story after the world grows on the turtles back the women who was born years later gets pregnant and has twins she dies cause one of the twins gets out from her armpit and the other right twin baby gets out normal way etc... where is that edition or am i just reading false crap from this book?
There is no such thing as "the wrong version" of Native American myths. They all started out as oral stories, which means there are many variations of them because they were not originally recorded, just remembered. I've heard of the version you're talking about too though.
oh okay thanks , its just now that im reading this its so weird to even imagine it . its like...supernatural extremely weird myth who would think of it? its awful . i liked this video and how it ended and its perfectly simple but the version i have that the twin gets born from the mothers armpit is awful. dont understand why we study this in the first place.
Sky Woman gives birth to First Woman, who is married by her Mom to the West Wind, and First Woman gives birth to the twins. I learned both Mohawk and Seneca versions of this tradition directly from my grandma (mohawk) and aunt joan (seneca). In both nations, Right Hand Twin chooses birth the safe way, and Left Hand Twin chooses to go out her armpit. First Woman dies as a result, and Sky Woman laid her out, placing the soil that she had grasped from the roots of the Tree of Life when she fell from Sky Island. From that soil sprang tobacco, sweetgrass, and strawberries - what we call Kionehkwa - the life sustainers. This is a short version.
