People often describe the Earth as "spinning" - but it takes 24 hours to make one full rotation. This simulation shows the Earth rotating in (1) real time, (2) one minute increments, (3) one hour increments, and (4) with time sped up to 106x real time rate.
The Earth does not "spin", it "rotates".
The software I used is Starry Night Pro (Version 6)

That "spinning" produces 0.00346 g of centrifugal force at the equator, which explains why the oceans were thrown into space a long time ago!

Very nice! Wolfie did a similar demonstration of how fast the Earth moves in its orbit, using a globe being pulled across a table-top. It takes just over 7 minutes to move its own diameter, yet flat earthers and other science deniers talk about "ludicrous speeds".

nice simple explanation and demonstration on earth rotation speed. Good job. I find with flerfs that they need these visual aids to explain how things work.

Hey, Dazza! How have you been? I was thinking of WTF sky recently and wondered if she is still involved in the weather conspiracy stuff. Conspiracy theories are a real problem for us in America right now. What did you see that made you think to do this video? I get it, we do think of spinning as faster and on a fixed point. We use rotating when something is moving slower. Hope to see more videos from you!

Thank you LasPetiteBoulin, I haven't checked in on them for a long time. I see their last video was uploaded in March 2022 so I guess they have given up flogging that particular dead horse - meanwhile sunspots are at the highest numbers in 24 years, global temperatures continue to increase and we are seeing the results with wild fires. My video about was just astronomy related and the common misconception of the Earth "spinning" in space when in reality, we wouldn't even be able to see it rotating. Also for the benefit of the Flat Earthers out there who love to mock the "spinning ball" by showing a spinning tennis ball with water flying off it. Thank you for your support, I hope all is well with you :)

uh.. Spin:- When an object spins it always rotates around an axis passing through its Center Of Mass. Rotate:- Rotation occurs around an axis . This axis can pass through Center Of Mass but it is not necessary.

uh... except that by definition, the word "spin" usually also describes rapid / fast rotation, so 1 rotation per 24 hours ( 0.000694 rpm) is hardly "spinning" :)
