Not just great musicians, Maurice White and his band presented African Americans during the 70's (after the hell of the 60's) with a positive vision of our native land that we could be proud of. Not one of slavery and hunger, but one of great beauty and a source of strength and wisdom. . His music was truly "African" and "American": seamlessly merging the kalimba, the drum, with the saxophone and guitar. I am blessed to have heard his music.

Damn sure did. A radio was all I had in 1977 to 1982. I was 10 in 1977. When EWF was on (including this song)- It was funk like this that kept our spirits up. Rest In Peace Maurice White, Barry White. You brothers helped us through your music during difficult times. The great Marice White of Earth 🌎 Wind&Fire had been really ill for the last 20years because of that fatal Parkinson disease. Marice was 74years old and left us during his sleep. I'm so happy that Marice White doesn't suffer anymore. That Parkinson Decease is very painful in the legs add other areas of the bidy for some people. The great creator of " Soul Train " Mr. Don Cornelieous began suffering from something they sad could have been Alzheiner ir Parkinson Decease. So he took pills to sleep away his pain. And never worke up a few years ago. These diseases are very painful physically and emotionally, So you know it takes a toll on them Mentally. Marice White we thank you and miss you!!! 🌈

That is very good information about Parkinson's. I have read about the muscle tremors, but I did not know that it was painful too. Twenty years is a long time to suffer. He will be missed.

The world lost its soul when Maurice White was taken from us. It’s no wonder we’re in the situation that we are. His music was music for everyone. Black, white, brown…it didn’t seem to matter to him. He just wrote from the heart for everybody to be enraptured by the tales he told. Dear God, take good care of him because you broke the mold when you made him!

Saw them perform this song the exact same way in 1979 in DC, my first concert ever, I was in high school, it was a school night and my mom let me go, it was Earth Wind & Fire, any other band she would've said no, I was a 3rd wheel to my sister and her boyfriend...lol, Maurice gave a good talk about love while sitting in that seat during the piano intro, I will forever remember that show

Along with Bill Champlin and Jay Grayden. Maurice gave him his first big break and became his mentor. Foster had several songs on I Am and Faces, along with the late,great Allie Willis who also was mentored by Maurice during the same time. I will always respect Mr Foster for paying his respects and honoring Maurice in public during one of his televised specials. I believe it was Maurice last public appearance. He deserved a lot more recognition then he got. The Grammy awards should be ashamed of themselves for the quick, last minute tribute they gave Maurice.
