rare performance of earth wind & fire with the song "evil" in 1973....if you interested in rare concerts of earth wind & fire please send me one message or check my web site for other rare concerts of EW&F in this site: gianfrancus.for...
These guys were so far ahead of their time. We are now used to hearing this level of musicianship and even production. What a visionary Maurice was. RIP sir.
I wish there were more musicians that have this level of talent and abilities. I don't hear enough Earth Wind and Fire music being played. That's why I'm watching this video.
Maurice White, an "Icon" him George Clinton, The Ohio Players and Slave just to name a few introduced us to some awesome musicians and I thank god that I was able to Listen and meet a lot of them in my lifetime!
The first single and album to incorporate the great lefty Al McKay into the lineup, on guitar...marking the beginning of the golden era for the greatest band of all time
Earth, Wind, and Fire. We used to rock the house back in high school in the late '70's with this great band. there will never be another era with the music we enjoyed growing up in the '70's. So much fun and we had the greatest music to go with it. Nothing like real instrutments , real singers and a great live performance. I wouldn't trade it for the world. this band's harmony and musicianship was second to none. Maurice White was a musical genus. R.I.P. Mr. White.
This was the album, and this song in particular, started my lifelong love affair with Earth, Wind, and Fire. I was only 12, but I was hooked and bought every album, 8-track, cassette, or cd they put out. Still the baddest band in the land!
"Evil" is the first Earth Wind and Fire song that I heard played on the radio. Luckily I have a friend from Jr. high school that knew who I was talking about when I asked about EF&W.
Stellar performances like this is all the reason why I can't bring myself to attend a concert by them today. Unfortunately, most of the original band has moved on and I can't relate to replacements playing these jams.
@@Torihope1000 Yes! Me, too. I saw them perform at the Arie Crown Theatre at McCormick Place in Chicago way back in the day. Phenomenal Live Band. My #1 Favorite Band.
i know... in their prime, there was nothing in music greater than the onstage energy and antics of Verdine White, Maurice White, Al McKay, Andrew Woolfolk, Larry Dunn, and Johnny Graham...seeing Philip & Ralph & Verdine have to carry on without those band members who have either left the group or departed this realm, is heartbreaking
This is the classic lineup.Maurice white,Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Andrew Woolfolk, Larry Dunn, Fred White, Al McKay, Johnny Graham. the baddest group in the universe.
I toured with them for a while and would like to know what happened to their roadies from 1973. They were all a blast! Great people as well as outstanding artists!
Verdine just kills me.Rhetorically speaking, how the f#$k can a guy stay in the pocket whilst demonstrating so much physical energy up there? He's just that good! They were amazing back then and still killing it today.Loved them from the summer of '72 when I was turned on to them on a trip to San Fran way back when. .
Yes your right..power of satan.just saying It's evil you know that they are prophets of Satan Like prince,Michael and of course Earth wind and fire.im sorry to tell this but if you going to understand the lyrics.you will know it's satanic
@@amorcleopetampus751 wrong...apparently you dont even know the lyrics to the song "..Maybe if we learn to pray, life would lend us sunshiny days. And evil runnnin' thru our brains, turns to love and won't be the blame.." .dont judge a song by the title... learn it first, genius..
lmao!...they started getting more organized onstage in the late 70s...but yeah, Verdine White on bass guitar, and Al McKay on rhythm guitar would be onstage really feelin they own grooves with no restraint...that energy is a big part of what made their live shows so compelling and entertaining..
Oh Yeah !!!! Maurice and The Crew... They are and Will Always Be Considered One of The Most Influential R&B Groups of The Late 60' Early 70's. Rest in Power MW 💖💖
Should have been a hit in 1973. The only reason I can imagine that it wasn't is that there was so much amazing music in that era that it was crowded out. But we're still listening to it today.
1973 was the year I graduated from high school, the same year this great song came out. RIP Maurice and all those that have past on in the music world from back in the day.
Can we say a jam session at its finest! All of these young artist out here need to take note this is how you perform, with energy, passion, heart and most of all talent! It actually takes skill to do what these guys are doing, no computer generated beats, sounds, melodies, instruments, or singing here, nothing but pure talent. And Mr. Verdine White is making that guitar sing right now!
My man had a genius for writing lyrics and adding a great melody to make magic. I personally dig Boogie Wonderland, Shining Star, After The Love Has Gone and Of course their cover of the Beatlles' Got To Get You Into My Life just to name a few. God bless these guys for the message of peace and love. Rest in peace Maurice White, you made the world a little bit better before leaving us. 🙏🏻❤✌🏾✊🏾
I was 19 when this came out I am telling my age now but, the point is that I loved these early albums! Open Our Eyes, That’s the Way of the World, Spirit....I could go on and on! I listen to them today to keep me grounded. Yes I miss you Maurice White but I know that you are singing with the angels, because our souls never die❤️♾☝🏼🙏🏽
Why am I getting Cuba Gooding Jr vibes from looking at Maurice?? LOL! Anyway, I just saw them in Chicago this past weekend....just wow. I was in the presence of music legends! Music royalty! YES! LOVE EWF!!!
I'm 58 yrs old, and I went to see Earth wind and fire and a young girl with my father, I was in love with maurice white. Of course my dad didn't know, but I love me some him😍
Those dudes you remembered actually grew up during the EWF, Ohio players period which is why they sampled quite a few from that period. They made people do research and in essence brought them new fans. TCQ actually got me into Rotary Connection (minnie rimperton's old group before she went solo)
Very well put Dion!!!! Indeed, music has an incredible energy to heal!! You just hv to find your own groove that works for yr body!!!! And that kalimba def. works for me!!!!
I remember going to a EWF concert and the atmosphere was so right! In listening to the music and harmony I was lost in to another dimension and time! Itt literally took me to a place I never been before! That's what excellent music will do for you! These guys are just that great! There has never been a group that's done that before! I was an experience I never witnessed before! They are in a level all by themselves!
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Clevland Ohio should put a gigantic HD jumbo tron of this masterpiece of "Evil" live at the entrance to the tour because we all will never witness entertainment like this again.................................
The BEST group of ALL TIME! I used to rock this in my pre-teen and teen years! How did Verdine continue to play his bass to perfection with all of that dancing and bouncing?! The brother is Awesome!
Love, love, love EWF--takes me back to Marverick's Flat in L.A. Verdine is the embodiment of someone that is totally PASSIONATE about their career. If only we could all love our jobs the way he does. Love you Verdine; miss you Maurice.
To Verdine AND Al McKay... It Takes Real Talent to Dance and Play Guitars at the same time, I Would of Been Fell OR Tripped Over Those Chords, The Energy They All Have is Awesome BUT Then Too THEY Were All in Their 20s On This Date October 1973,, Except Maurice HE Was in his 30s
RIP Maurice White , thank you for all your uplifting songs!! You have been part of my child hood..what a treasure to listen to your songs, while growing up ...you'r a shining star.....we loved you and will sing your songs for years to come....
When "Shining Star" went no.1 across the world they did become bigger but they did strayed away from their earlier funky sound. Towards the end of the 70's they were leaning towards ballads and disco. I don't think that was their true intention's but since they were at the time of 1978 the no.1 group in the world(true fact) with their concerts selling out worldwide, they really had no choice but to give what the fans and record company wanted
You are SO right, PAINFULLY right... 98% of pop music today is utter garbage compared to popular music of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's (even some of the music of the 90's)...
Hip-hop ruined R&B.... That's a fact!! The radio starions that play R&B are few a far in between... Look at all the singers the sang in the 80's and mid 90's..They're puttmg out new mosic with no where to play it...Hip-Hop killed R&B!!!
Great, great, great song! THANK-YOU! And Chicago10281, yes, I do have this valued vinyl that includes Devotion, Feelin' Blue and Fair is so Uncool. Hey Romynastore, do you have EWF performing Feelin' Blue?? That must be really rare. Thanks again.
EWF and Parliment Funkedelic had the Best live shows and the Quality of the music was amazing. EWF was more Afro Spiritually Funky with a lot of class. It was the Best of Times for AFROJAZZSOULROCK and R&B
I have the original album, along with it's original inner sleeve. I have played, cheeristed and treasured this album since 1973, and although there are many albums (especially from the 70's era) that I also enjoy and that mean alot to me,I can definately say "The Head To The Sky Album" and particularly the instumental song "Zanzibar" are my alltime favorites.
ahh man, joyous musicians, they get a hook in your mouth within the first 4 seconds, oh jump on cause you know its gonna get proper funky and take you places you ain't never been, it was/is special, open the windows, play loud, I only saw them live once, that was a mistake
Man it took me a few years to 'hear' these chords! First set:(1) A-G-C-E, (2) D-F#-C-E (3) G-F-B-E (4) C-E-A#-D. Bass note is first note written. The other chords are basic, can E-mail them to you if necessary. Keep playing-don't let this music die.Peace
This is why the EWF is still worth the price of a ticket. I wish they would release some more of this style of in your face type of funk and afro-rhythmic syncopation.
One of my all-time favourite songs from the greatest ever music band, period! That brotha Charles Stepney (RIP) was sheer genius in helping to get Maurice and the crew fine hone their hitherto freeer, less melodic driven, funky sound. Now make my Xmas even merrier by posting a video of the band performing 'Clover.'
If you pay close attention to Verdine's recorded lines, and his live ones, you'll see that when he plays live, his stage presence, doesn't allow for all of the intricate notes and licks to be played, but still he's on point. Some his best playing can be heard on the 1975-76 "Spirit" album CBS records. Check it out.
My friend and I working a summer job during landscaping at PSO summer 1973. So one day my friend says there’s new group Earth Wind and Fire with an album entitled ‘Head to the sky.’ So we got paid headed to Tulsa, Oklahoma. ( Home of the Gap Band). We went by the record store and there it was about eight band members on the cover of the album. My friend bought the album and I bought the eight track. When I played it was like I’ve nothing I’ve heard drums, horns, percussion, tight vocals, and kalimba . (I later bought an alto and tenor..) We then stopped by Lotta Burger and bought these huge hamburgers before taking off back home. And ever since then I saw them in concert winter of 1975, 2009 appearing with Chicago at zoo amphitheater in Oklahoma City, and about 2012 at the Choctaw Event Center in Durant, Oklahoma.. and of course bought most of their music on eight, cassette, cd, and concert DVD. It was the era of the bands and yes we came along at one of the best time.. Rest In Peace Maurice you created music that will last forever, LB Nov 2022
It's much easier to be a rapper then a musician, if you your a person that actually studied music you would understand. And you can always "buy" old CDs and albums. People do it everyday. I'm open minded about real music not fake sampled nonsense...
If I want to bring the "old stuff" back , I'll listen to an oldies station or play my old albums...I want to hear "creative" music , not a sample of something I heard years ago...Rapper are a dime a dozen , musicians are not...
the greatest band ever,no one even came close, the black beatles!they will rule forever, evil came out the year i graduated high school and i knew i had to be a musician from that day in 73!
Yeah, totally man. :) I spent a few years in the southwest on a church mission, and I became a bit more aware of, say, the musical tastes of many Navajos, the general aesthetic preferences, etc. But yeah, good melodies, good rhythms, good harmonies... Stuff like that is universal. :)
Quality music has faded away. Now, videos and image control the music scene. Very unfortunte. The talent in this group and others from that era cannot be overstated. The bands alone.... EWF, Isleys, Brass Constructin, B.T. Express, Crown Heights Affair, et. al. Great singers AND musicians. What a complete ensemble. Look at today... poor singing, little creativity, and video images. The afficianados have to look at old tapes and You Tube for qualty stuff.
thank you, I love when maurice gives that little laugh, he has that way of added these little touches, because he's really into the feel of what he's singing. I love to watch him sing, also he's so handsome.
I did PR for a company called Ed White PR. First black-owned PR company in the music business. EWF was one of our clients, and I went to many gigs. Verdine White used to call me when he was on the road, because he missed LA, and would ask me to describe the weather and the palm trees. This was the greatest band ever, with the finest musicians on each instrument, and the brilliant arrangements of Charles Stepney & Reese White. Nothing even close to this exists today.
