He started out as a session drummer for the late jazz musician Ramsey Lewis before taking EWF to greater heights. He also was very adept on the kalimba and various other percussion instruments. A very talented musician indeed.

Why Do You Think They Had to Use Two Drummers Live... Most Drummers Can't Play Maurice's Beats Accurately (Just Trust Me On This.. I'm a Musician)

The line was put in as a joke and nod to the fact that when maurice wrote serpentine fire, nobody in the group, most notably Philip bailey, knew what the song was about. Phillip kept asking maurice to tell him what it meant but White wouldn't give him an answer... this eventually lead to White saying that "if you don't understand me, it's your fault"

Sheer genius from the opening wailing bars that you have to listen to it, it command you attention, and there is no let up either, EWF at their best, at a time in the mid 70's when Maurice White had the midas touch, from the stellar seller All N All, i personally rate as one of their finest albums

Ali Ali Youre so lucky haha. Im 28 and had to endure so much bad music. I mainly listen to music of my parents and grandparents generation. There's so much great music to still discover from those times that I dont even bother with keeping up with too much of new music of these days. As I read Maurice's memoir and take this musical journey back down memory lane, every once in a while I stop and go (Damn), just like I did 40 some years ago with my friends while we were smoking and drinking listening to EWF. RIP Maurice White, you will not soon be forgotten......

My all time -favorite band is the elements of Earth Wind & Fire All n All, Saturday Night on Spirit oooh and Gratitude , Keep Your Head To The Sky, Devotion yessssssss even today's generation. "Now, Then and Forever" that is the joint! So many brilliantly written songs & we know all their lyrics. There's too many to name but #SPIRIT by founder, Maurice White you can feel the energy it's so spiritual it touches the soul! The horn section 🎺 is #supreme none like it.
